Shortz was a brick wall there.

Mills is tired because he's been playing defense this game. His shots are short because he's tired. Like most players, he can't excel at both, offense and defense. He's having an effect on defense--intercepted an inbounds pass just now.

Apparently Webber has never seen Cunningham play. He's discovering his abilities.

Good god the great Babbitt is not so great.

Armon has forced like four 8-second violations so far this SL. I really like this kid.

Babbitt looks like he has to break form to shoot the NBA 3.

It's fun to watch Johnson playing 1-on-1 defense. He can be like glue.

We need Bayless here.

They played harder because this is their first win.. 72-71.

Babbitt is a whole pile of ugh.

Yeah that was bad. Didn't really like Mills much either he was taking some jumpers that didn't need to be taken. And like I said cannot really comment on Pendergraph since I didn't see the whole thing, but something like 4/15, really?

The box score says Deandre Jordan blocked 5 Pendergraph shots. Woof!

What was there to solve? Once the ball was in his hands, it was not getting out of his hands until he shoots (forces) it.

Maybe a better way of putting it, Jeff solved it for him?

I read the thread. Then I watched the game (on Tape) and I apparently taped the wrong game, because I thought you guys were out of your fucking minds with your embellished comments. IMHO of course.

JFC it is a summer league game. The comments on how bad Babbitt looked is ridiculous. Sure he missed some wide open shots, but over all I thought he looked pretty good for a 20 year rookie. Does anyone really think Evan Turner sucks because he struggled in summer league? Pendergraf had 14 rebounds. Do you guys think we will be running our offense though him in the regular season.? He played some pretty good D.

Thank god I am gone for 9 days on vacation. (starting tomorrow) I obviously need one. LOL

Wasn't this 300 pounder Shortzonitis in the 2003 draft or something? I rememember joking about him with Maris on the ESPN board back then. Maybe 2004.

His name is something like Scvfryuh Shortzonitis so I said, That's just his sexy stage name. You should see his REAL name. Like it's even worse.

Sofoclis Schortanitis

He was on the Greek team that beat the US in the 2006 World Championships.

Looking at the box score, Reyshawn Terry continues to excel under the radar in 13 minutes per game. For the 3 games he is getting 1 rebound every 2.5 minutes. (Total rebounds are 7 offensive and 9 defensive.) He has had 4 fouls the entire series, whereas several players got 5 in this game alone.

After I posted that, they said he went pro in 2003 in Greece, so that must be why he was available to be drafted then.

I completely agree. I was at the game and I just now read the thread and it is ridiculous.

I haven't seen one of our 1st round picks play so poorly in summer league since Batum, lol....

I may have posted a lot in this thread (unfortunately, I picked the deadest thread of the 3 games so far) but the only thing I said about Babbitt is that he's a good passer. Didn't say anything bad, wasn't one of the ones calling him the Great Babbitt. More important--

Checking NBA.com transactions for today, I see that the Bulls named Scottie Pippen Ambassador. Ambassador to which country?

Ya, Batum was horrible in summer league. I think the difference is that we weren't expecting him to be good. Babbitt was chosen just outside the lottery for crying out loud.

Babbitt was chosen 16, Batum 24? If that's correct doesn't seem like such a difference.

I guess I just expected Babbitt to have a big adjustment period. Two years in the WAC is not ideal. But I don't agree with Kenny Vance who says he can't get his shot off. Will he have an adjustment? of course, but I don't think it is alarming by any means. He was 4-10 last night. The misses I remember, he was wide open. He will make those. I also disagree with those who say he needs to set his feet before he shoots. He already has a beautiful pull up mid range jumper. (One he hit late in the 4th last night) A shot btw Martel never mastered.

When Batum was drafted, the entire Blazer organization thought he was going to need more seasoning in Europe. When Babbitt was drafted, we traded a servicable wing player for him, and heard from some that the Blazer envisioned him in the rotation. So yes, I expected more at this point.

I expected more too, but I also halfway expected him to struggle like this (going from being strictly a pull up shooter at Nevada and trying to transition to a catch and shoot guy) The one thing I keep trying to remind myself is that it is just summer league and he's going to have the next three months after it's over to go home (or the Blazers PF preferably) watch tape and work on all of the the weaknesses that have been revealed in his game. The things he has going for him: 1) he's got NBA size and the mechanics on his shot are pretty good (if slow) and 2) he seems to be a worker and a competitor. That said, he's got a long ways to go; I don't expect him to be a capable contributor until at least the all-star break.
