According to Dwight Jaynes (via Twitter) the Blazers are pursuing a big that is straight out of left field:

Greg Smith
6'10" (w/shoes)
251 lbs.
7'3" wingspan -- 8'11.5" standing reach
Biggest hands ever measured since Draftexpress started measuring hands -- one-foot wide
35.5" vertical leap

At 6'10 with solid length and a stocky 250-pound frame, Smith is big enough to play either post position at the next level. While he is not overly quick or explosive, he is a solid and coordinated athlete with above average mobility given his size.

liked him over Diebler in 2nd round last year.

this season just keeps getting more encouraging by the minute

He reminds me of a Cato-type player. I bet he can play good position D. He's built solid. Looks like he can hit free-throws too. Well of course things change dramatically once you are in a real game.

Looking at the combine stats, he's a virtual clone of Jeff Pendergraph athletically and physically.

He is the splitting image of Telfair.

But you never know with these undrafted guys. Sometimes, they're motivated enough to succeed in the league, and we have a starter on our team who is the embodiment of that.

we have to take some chances like this, what I "wish" we would have done last yr was to take a chance on Anthony Randolph when NY was shopping him, Minny got him for cheap and he did pretty well there

He'd be a nice player to trade for. His stock is about the same and they are stacked at the 3/4 with the addition of Derrick Williams.

It's so unlike the Blazers to bring in a no name scrub like this. LOL

Maybe they should aim for a player that could actually help us, and not battle Chris Johnson and Earl Barron for minutes? Unless they truly are waiving Roy and trading Camby to start this bad boy over again

I am getting the feeling we are going down the retool route. Ya don't really need to blow things up with only 3 guys signed for next yr, with E Williams still here and Crash having a player option. I'd like to see batum extended. However, moving a lot of other pieces around seems likely.

I don't get that feeling, but I couldn't agree more with you about retooling. This team has enough quality youngish pieces to start with. Aldridge, Batum, Felton, Matthews, Smith, Williams (maybe). They need to see if they can strike gold with some draft picks this year. If not, then we lose nothing because this team, as constructed, isn't winning shit

so this is our help up front? i knew i should have watched that unc/kentucky game on sat. lots of lotto prospects.

With such large hands, at least he'll give Oden a run for his money in one area.

Dont forget about a healthy Oden. :devilwink:

I also haven't forgetten about how hot Kirstie Alley was, or how much fun I used to have playing tag. Greg Oden has as good a chance to be healthy as me having fun playing freeze tag or Kirstie Alley does of being hot again
