It appears that Rubio will be staying in Spain for the next two years.

I wonder if Pritch can work some magic and trade something of minimal value for the rights to Rubio? Miller has two years guaranteed and then we could turn the reigns over to Rubio.

I know, I know. Fantasy-land.

Still, kinda fun to consider.

Gramps...

it is clear that the only reason rubio wanted to come here, was because of rudy. rudy only has like 3 years left. So that doesn't leave much time. :dreamkiller:

Sounds to me like the kid is being smart staying in Europe, where he'll actually play, vs. coming to the NBA this year and riding the pines.

Riding the pines in Minnie? Behind who? Flynn? If Flynn is so hot then Minnie should trade Rubio, conversely if he ain't Rubio would start.

I'd try and see if they could use Bayless, Outlaw, and Webster plus picks and cash?

No thanks. In two years, we should be one of the favorites to win the NBA title. I really don't want the team to have to worry about integrating a prima donna little bitch into the squad.

Right, so I will tell LeBron to forget signing for the vet minimum next year in Portland. We wouldn't want to integrate a prima dona after all. You have talent or you don't, he has it.

Comparing Ricky Rubio to LeBron James is hilarious on any current level.

How is Ricky Rubio a prima donna little bitch exactly? Because he doesn't want to pay 6 million dollars of his own money to play in Minnesota? Was Rudy a prima donna little bitch when he didn't come over right after we drafted him? What about Freeland, Kopo, and Claver? All prima donna little bitches?

It really makes you wonder why he entered the draft though.

Because if he were drafted #1 by the Clippers instead of 5 by Minnesota, he would be in a bigger market, which could easily lead to more marketing possibilities to make some of that money back, as well as the higher salary that comes with being a higher pick. A difference in starting salaries of over 2 million dollars the first year. Griffin is making 4.9, compared to the 2.7 Rubio is slated to make(I know it's not chump change, but again, he has his buyout).

Yeah, but he was never really projected as the top pick. He knew that going in.

There was still debate before the lottery drawing over the possibility of him going #1.

It was meant to be ludicrous to make a point. Prima Dona doesn't matter much if you have talent. I was using the most extreme example I could think of. Obviously Rubio is a far superior player to LeBron. Everyone knows that.

so its a 6yr deal with a 2yr option to jump ship? ah well, he's young - it'll work out.

Maybe we'd keep Miller's last year to be a teacher/mentor at that point. I don't think you need to completely hand the reigns over, even if he's starting.

Once Miller is done, I think it's far more likely that we'll be adding a veteran MLE type point guard or drafting an heir apparent and developing him over the next couple of years to replace him than KP ever being able to A) have the cajones to trade the pieces Minnesnowta would demand to get Rubio and B) handing the job over to a player with no NBA experience.

Rubio may indeed end up being a great NBA talent, but with his draft position and the competition there will be from other teams to try and trade for his rights in two years I just don't see this pipe dream ever coming to pass.

Who else would try to trade for his rights?

I see a bunch of aging teams that might want him, but they don't have young pieces to give minnesota to get him.

I see a bunch of terrible teams that might want him, but they don't have any pieces to give minnesota to get him, or have a few but don't want to trade their only good prospects and ask fans to wait two more years.

We are really one of the only teams that really can lose some good young pieces and remain competitive while we wait for Rubio.
