Blazers’ G leaguers

Another observation I have about Swanigan; he actually needs to get stronger. He doesn’t really move fellow bigs. Maybe in college he did but it’s not really translating. I think he has ways to go physically. He needs to turn his extra useless weight into functional strength. I don’t doubt that he will though.

Some of that is surely the same as Nurk's problem. They're both smaller than last year. Much of "strength" is merely weight. Try pushing a guy that weighs 50 lbs more than you and you quickly realize his strength, or lack thereof, isn't coming into play.

Swanigan's rebounds in his 4 games are in order 11, 9, 15, and 19. Ignoring the outlier, it goes up 4 each game. So I predict that in his next games he will get 23, 27, 31, and 35 rebounds.

The nice thing is that he's multi-dimensional. And he learned a spin move while with the Blazers (from Nurkic?) which looks fancy against mere G-Leaguers.

Those videos make him look just too good for the G's. He belongs here. If Olshey can't get good offers for Vonleh, Davis, and Aminu, he needs to give them away to make minutes for Swanigan and Collins. Their presence is blocking team progress.

Cliff Alexander, who went undrafted, looked just as good, if not better. If I’m Olshey and watching these games, I’m taking note of Alexander. He looks like he’s lost some weight. He’s also added a three point shot (37% on the season)** and makes his free throws. A junkyard player with a jumper, what’s not to like? He’s also much more athletic than Biggie. He should be in the league. I want him back!

Basketball-Reference doesn't compare players in the G-League, so I tried NBA stats (per 36 minutes). Swanigan rebounds more; Alexander shoots more. Swanigan shoots 2s at a better %, but pulls down his FG% by shooting too many 3s. (**Alexander hardly shoots any 3s, 4-10 in 17 games; Swanigan is 3-13 in only 4 games.) I'm guessing that Caleb has a smoother array of shots, while Cliff is more of a ferocious dunk specialist.

No wonder I avoid NBA Stats. The comparison started with few categories, so I added many. It showed well on my screen, I posted the URL above, but the URL shows just the original few categories.

How will we know? You're not making any game threads! :smiley-placko:

Olshey's developing this rookie Scalma, but rest assured that if Scalma falls down, we will all encourage you to pick up where he left off. What happened to our shared-Facebook scheme?

Our preseason waivers: Archie Goodwin is in the G-League (his 4th season there--he should go to Europe), but Isiah Briscoe is retired at age 21. After leaving Kentucky early, then going undrafted in 2017, Briscoe should have joined the G-League so that we could follow him. Inconsiderate.

Briscoe retired? Last I heard he was playing in Europe, averaging like 24 points a game. But that was in December so I don’t know what’s happened since.

I watched Baldwin’s game on replay. Skipped Swanigans game. G league games are wearing me out. If you’re feeling down about the blazers, do yourself a favor and catch a G league game.

Anyways Baldwin had a horrible shooting night. He only scored 6 points and didn’t get to the line once. He’s been getting to the line at will so this was a fluke. He was also was playing off the ball for the second game in a row. Starting to think the Legends don’t care about our boys development. Lol fuck the g league (or maybe the Blazers for not having their own team)

The good? 7 assists (should’ve been more. I always say this but it’s true. He’s very unselfish, which stands out in a very selfish league, for example his teammate Jonathan Motley is about the most selfish player I’ve ever seen) and I thought he had his best defensive performance so far, which is saying something considering how consistent he’s been on that end. I honestly don’t think he got scored on more than maybe once or twice. He’s got elite length but he trusts his feet and doesn’t reach. It’s a great balance.

When we signed Wilcox and Baldwin IV Olshey mentioned that the organization was looking into a G league team in the future...it'll happen. Just hope it's in Oregon

I'm not on facebook. I've lost too much face. Let's use Sly's.

I thought Briscoe was in Europe too, but when I posted that, I was surprised to find no mention of him playing now anywhere. FIBA only lists a high school tournament.

Edit: Also not in Euroleague or Russian League.
Edit: Checked Spanish, French, Italian Leagues. Nope.

Well I guess I’m a masochist because I just watched swanigans game from last night. When watching young players I try to find something positive in every performance, but I have nothing for Biggie. He was awful on both ends and I’m afraid it can’t be chalked up as just an off night. He’s going to continue to get his shit packed in the NBA, because he can barely get his shot off against g leaguers. Defensively he was playing center yesterday and was still too slow, and doesn’t have the length to make up for it. He’s years away, and that’s the optimist in me because right now he’s not an NBA player. At least not one that plays.

I see now that I posted it 2 months ago. Don't know why I couldn't find it last night.

With his team (Kalev), Briscoe has played 5 games in the Russian (VTB) league, and 5 games in the Estonia league. He's starting.

He should get another chance in the league, I think hes good enough to be a backup point somewhere.

Many on the board (me) wanted to keep Briscoe, of the 3 players (Anthony Morrow, Archie Goodwin) Olshey waived to get down to 14 players. I thought he'd go to the G-League, and we could compare him to players well-known in the U.S. There are only a few such players where he's playing. Disappointing.

Yeah I was heavy on the Briscoe train. Even with a so so jumpshot he still made an impact in other areas, and most importantly looked like an actual point guard. I know I’d rather have him running the offense than CJ.

Same applies to Baldwin, but at least we’ll probably see him at some point.

G league showcase is in Ontario for the next four days. I believe most NBA executives are in attendance. Baldwin plays at 3:30pst. Swanigan at 5:30. Both games will be on twitch.
