Wish I could be there to greet them and applaud.

I expect it will be a huge turnout.

Homecoming? They just got their asses handed to themselves. Blown the fuck out 2 out 6 games. Homecoming, my ass. I thought the pre-playoff rally was a bit much (I mean, for finally making the playoffs? Really?) Now you want to greet and applaud them for losing?

Man, we're so past that.

No homecoming for getting beat in 6 games when you have home court advantage.

Sorry. I remember when this team was a proud franchise. Time to raise your expectations.

Yeah, I agree. I can't believe people expect us to support anything but a championship. We all expected way more of this team, this year, and the only reason we should show would be to boo them. I may tell people I'm a fan of the Blazers, but really I just love to be that bitter and angry guy who isn't ever happy. Screw the airport.

Time to learn how to enjoy the positives.

We overachieved during the regular season. We underachieved during the playoffs.

Maybe I was a bit harsh, but I'll stick by my initial convictions that showing up to the airport after the team got killed in an elimination game is tacky. It reflects on our low expectations, more than anything.

Any more info on this? I have an 8am final, but i only need like a 55% on it.

Flight Craft, last driveway on the right before you get to the airport!

What were your expectations for the team this season?

Coming into the season? A low playoff seed, and quick first round exit.
After we clinched home court? A first round victory, or at least a highly competitive series.

Yeah, because the Blazers just got blown out, let's not pay them our respect. Let's let them know that we won't have any more damn parades until a championship comes. You guys just lost a series? We're not going to welcome you back until you come back with some rings.

We're supposed to be loyal fans, not just fans when they're winning. Gotta stick through the thick and thin.

Didn't we do that at the pre-playoff rally?

Guess I'm just out of the loop on this kinda thing.

I don't see how not doing such a thing would reflect on fans' loyalty.

Good, so they surpassed your expectations. That should be impressive to you.

You do realize that if you keep raising your expectations as the team surpasses expectations, the team could never do anything but disappoint, right?

:sigh:true.

But that kind of attitude usually keeps me striving for more. And leaves me as the ultimate pessimist.

We forced a game six and lost games in Houston by 1 and 3 points on two occassions, 'splain to me what you mean by 'highly competitve'?

But you have nothing to do with the team's success. I don't understand, how is criticizing the team for not meeting your constantly-changing expectations "keeping you striving for more?" Striving for more sports-related unhappiness?

I'll see your 1 and 3 point losses with two HUGE blowouts.

Houston controlled this series from front to end with a better game plan.

game plan my arse. They controlled the game with better execution, exploiting matchups and generally putting all their playoff experience to bear on a young team that hadn't really been here before (Ruffin, Blake and Joel have 15ish games between them doesn't quite count).

Portland's plan was fine, they just didn't have the personnel/experience to pull it off.

They were blown out! they choked bigtime.

Homecoming? I have better things to do, like re-paint my mail box.

I don't really know how to respond to this, cause I gotta go now.

But I still don't understand the point of welcoming/greeting/applauding a team that just lost in a blowout. OK, the season was a success overall, and we already acknowledged that with the pre-playoff rally.

Yeah, I'm not suggesting you do or don't go to the homecoming. I just didn't follow your point about "it keeps you striving for more." That statement makes sense in terms of setting higher and higher standards for yourself. I don't see how it's relevant to evaluating the success of other people that you have no influence over.

As far as the "they just got blown out" argument goes. My reason for wanting to go is that it was an awesome season that I enjoyed a ton, and I won't get to really see them again for quite a while. I figure one last journey won't hurt, and could be a good experience. Hell, I might even meet HCP.
