Blazers interested in OJ Mayo

I don't see how Matthews would get us Asik. If they signed Howard, thhey'd likely look to move Asik for a PF, not a backup to Harden.

Seems like they have plenty of young options at PF. If they trade Asik they won't want to bring back a big contract at either PG or SG for that matter. So they might as well stay with Jones and/or Robinson. Isn't Moniejunas a PF too?

I thought the idea that was being kicked around was Matthews/Leonard.

I get it for us. I just don't see why they'd do it. If they're able to shed Robinson, and have the ability to sign Howard outright, then I imagine they'd get better offers than Matthews/Leonard. Like I said, I think they'd initially target a good PF to go along with Howard.

Like who are you thinking?

Yeah, I understand that the $$ works to get him here. I just don't see why Houston would do it.

I would assume that Houston wants to build a contender. Why wouldn't they want a great backup shooting guard who plays defense? I think it would take more than Wes/Freeland, so I think we would have to include Leonard, but I guess we'll just have to see. Nothing is going to happen until they get Howard (if they get him).

Yeah they wanna shed salary so wouldn't they have to include Robinson in the trade too? That way they shed a little bit more salary. Or add a third party to shed more?

Good rule of thumb: stay away from USC SGs. They're all sizzle and no steak. And I say that as a sort-of proud ex-Trojan.

Not if Houston is serious about going after Dwight Howard. Why would they want to tie up more money?

With mayo, we'd assure ourselves of having at least 1-2 shot creators on the floor at all times. I think some of you are underrating the value of that.

I'd only want him if it meant Matthews was being traded for a C.

Man, Olshey orders tuna and mayo for lunch and we get rumors like this.

Could Matthews and a sign and trade with Hickson get us Asik? Clearing room to sign Mayo. I'd be totally up for this.

I want separate threads. I want to get news quickly. A thread titles that list actual news allows me to come here and find out what's going without fishing through one thread.

I'm not opposed to it. He can shoot and he's athletic. Hopefully his attitude is good. If we do bring him in, I think that means Matthews is gone.

That's the thing... he shoots too much, takes bad shots, and he's really not that athletic. In fact, I remember being really surprised with how unathletic he was when he came in as rookie.

Mayo had a good season statistically, but like I was saying in another thread, you have to consider a player's style of play and how it'll fit in with your team, beyond the statistics. Mayo's a guy that needs the ball in his hands to be effective. He's also a black hole offensively, and once he sees a few shots falling, he tries to really dominate the ball and pretend like he's MJ out there, jacking up anything that comes his way.

Add to that the fact that he'll probably be looking for a lucrative, long-term deal, and I'd personally advise against that one. I was pretty damn glad when we didn't offer him a contract extension last summer... addition by subtraction.
