He'll be in LV to get interviewed. The Tom Penn of OKC/SEA, has gone from a Cap guy to a good talent evaluator as well.

For me GM's go :
1) Cho
2)Pfund

SI Article on New Era of GM's

Freakonomics. To understand how Thunder general manager Sam Presti has steadily assembled a low-cost, high-upside roster that is the envy of other small-market teams, give credit to two factors that are out of reach for most franchises. First is the presence of Kevin Durant, who arrived as the No. 2 pick in 2007 and is fast developing the talents and leadership skills of a league MVP. Second is the discipline of Presti, who continues to develop -- and most importantly, stick with -- a long-term plan to develop young players according to the team-first demands of the Thunder program while keeping costs low. It's fine for franchises to envy OKC now, but how many owners would have the foresight and patience to adhere to the plan a couple of years ago when the Thunder were struggling?

The third factor, which may be available to other teams: Assistant GM Rich Cho, the Swiss army knife of the Thunder's front office. Cho is a lawyer and capologist who also knows a player when he sees one. "He's so smart with numbers and negotiations and the cap," said Hawks GM Rick Sund, who worked with Cho with the old Sonics in Seattle, "and he's an attorney and he's brilliant in finance and he's a good people person."

Most fans (and many NBA owners) have never heard of Cho, but people in the league view him as a prototype for the next NBA era, an executive who draws on a number of backgrounds to come up with solutions. "Rich is incredibly talented," said Presti. "He has great versatility in his approach and skills and is someone that consistently thinks of the long-term interest of the organization."

YES finally a GM to get excited about nod to Maxiep and others for pointing Cho out.

FUCKING YES!!!

Pfund, Cho, Griffin ... I don't really care, just get somebody good sooner rather than later and let's get on with it.

Sounds like a Tom Penn clone, but with less experience. Did Presti make sure to give Cho enough credit to the media?

MERGE ALERT!!!!!! And let me add HELL YES! DO IT VULCAN DO IT!

Cho is by far the best candidate thus far. Pfund isn't awful and has a Pfunny name, but Cho looks much better from what I've read.

Cho was the guy with Pritchard in the back when Portland and Seattle got the top two picks

Based on what? Luring big FAs to OKC? Drafting Kevin Durant over Greg Oden (oh, wait). Drafting James Harden last year? I'm interesting in knowing why you feel Cho is a better candidate than Pfund? I think the opposite. I thought the initial words from the Vulcans were they wanted a GM experienced at making big trades and signings. Cho has done neither as the lead guy.

So you're saying Cho got lucky. I love Oden, but until he is healthy Durant was the pick. What's more as Durant was destined to be #2, the lucky bounce was to get #2 until such time as Oden beasts out for a few seasons. I'm hoping that Oden gets beasty next year. However, Cho's luck (likely highest ranking official at the draft) seems to have trumped Kevin's.

Napoleon when looking for a General would listen to his accolades and then ask "Yes, but is he lucky?"

That's right baby, finally, the dynasty is set. The Spurs have Eva Mrs. Parker, we got Margaret!

Your pic didn't come through bro, is that a pic of KP? If so prepare to be tarred and feathered. I liked KP, but feel his agent fucked it all up. As such I've moved on and would like a Cho GMship.

Oh and KP derailment OFF TO THE RACES!

Maybe if we can't get cho or pfund, we can get pho? .... mmmmmmm ... pho sounds good right now.

Aw man I was really hoping there was a Cho dynasty at some point. Googled it and no luck. By the way Margaret is a lesbian, just FYI.

It's the one that got posted right below. But I should have tagged my statement /sarcasm.

I can't really say I'm too hot on any of the GM choices so far, just because they most likely won't be better than KP.

I like the potential for Cho related nicknames a lot more than I like the Pfund related nicknames ... but that's as far as I'm willing to go in terms of deciding who the best candidate is.

Oh you spoil sport, you. Next you are going to show me that Rich is not (a lesbian, that is).

People are giving Presti way too much credit on this point. He drafted well, but let's see how many people envy his "low-cost" roster once the core guys are off their rookie deals... The same was said of the Blazers 2 years ago, now people fret about how expensive the core will be to keep together.

IMO he's already taken up too much of the spotlight.

Cho OUT!!!!!!

Mrs. Patterson must be losing his mind right now.

As one can see based on my previous posts, I have a GM hard on for this guy. I think the future of GMing is guys like Daryl Morey, who is less a traditional scout than a guy who understands how to parse statistics. Keep Born and Buchanan on board as the talent guys, hire an outside advisor who can work the league and knows how to put together trades (John Gabriel or Rod Thorn) and let this guy grow into his job.

I never quite get all the hype over the Thunder. Imagine that franchise got the third pick instead of the second in 2007, and wound up with Al Horford instead of Durant. That's probably a 30 win team, which is about what they've averaged since 2005 (as the Sonics). Ensured of a lottery pick between 7-11. Too bad to be worth watching, picking too low to get anything good.

Agreed. I thought the plan was to bring someone in with GM experience. Maye Cho would make a fine GM, maybe. I like Pfund because he's apparently well respected around the league and has a decent track record for making trades.
