Really? I think the candidates are basically shit, castoffs, and a "young" assistant who hasn't had to show leadership, at this point. I hope I'm wrong.

Pfund isn't a castoff. Technically he resigned, and as far as I know, wasn't in deanger of losing his job.

Cho is a young assistant, but so was KP when we hired him. I'm not really sure what everyone wants in a new GM?

Cho is much more experienced than KP when we promoted him to GM.

I'm hoping for Pfund as GM and Cho as Asst GM. Offer Cho a huge raise to take the same job here in PDX.

hiring cho would be a little FU to Prichard since they seem to be the same type of GM. I think Cho is a more exciting prospect and Pfund is probably a little safer.

More than I want Cho as our next GM, what I really want is a hire that shows we're being innovative; that we're thinking outside the box. Guys like Ferry and Pfund are retreads, whether they resigned or quit. They bring old ideas, prejudices and are stuck in paradigms that may not work anymore.

I'm not saying there isn't a place for those kinds of people, but as advisors rather than GMs. Have a guy like Cho--who embraces statistics, computer models and who can find the loopholes in the cap--design the strategy for the team. Have talented scouts and old hands who can find the players and who know how to massage deals beneath him. A good manager will understand what he does and doesn't know, and how to acknowledge and utilize expertise.

I don't think Cho will get the job, however, because one day that guy is going to not just be the GM of a team, but a Team President. And Larry Miller doesn't seem to like people who may want his job.

To be fair, March-June was nothing but a "FU" to Pritchard. KP and Cho are a bit alike, but Pritchard comes from a player evaluation angle while Cho comes from more of a business/capologist angle. I have no doubt while KP used statistical analysis, he didn't understand how they worked. He just picked the important numbers to him and trusted how they were put together. Cho understands how the statistics are actually created.

I like this idea, but think BeerBoy's above has merit as well. Cho however is someone I want working for P-town in some sort of Gm/assistant GM capacity.

Yes he is, yet people still think he is less qualified than their golden boy KP. I liked a lot of what KP did, but to think he was the end all be all is foolish

As I've posted before, I loved what KP did. I hated not only that he was fired, but the way it was done. However, all I ask is that the person who replaces him is equal or an upgrade. I think of the three candidates that we've seen in the press (and there have certainly been more that we haven't heard of), only Cho meets that criterion.

I agree Cho is the best choice of the lot. It sounds a bit like he is the anti-KP which is a good thing as I'm afraid there is some evidence other GM's didn't like Portland under KP's GM-ship. Perhaps flying under the radar for awhile would be a good thing as would happen with a relative unknown like Cho. As long as he or his assistants can get trades done, and really there is no reason to think they couldn't, then his 21st century style in the mold of Morey etc. gives me reason to hope.

Even with a raise, it would still be considered a lateral move, and OKC probably wouldn't let him go. It would likely have to be a promotion for Cho to come here.
