Didn’t he retire years ago? Is he retiring as a fan now?

Hey he has really slowed down during these past 2 years. Didn't see him for a long time during all this bullshit obviously, but seen him this season a bunch.....man he has aged a TON. Gonna miss The Schonz.

May have to go to that game/Schonz night.

Edit: WTF, flights to Portland are like $350 RT that weekend

quick did a profile on him last week and it sounded like the tank was what did him in.

But today, the 92-year-old Schonely is troubled. Among other things, his beloved Trail Blazers are scuffling. A whirlwind of trades in February positioned the Blazers for financial flexibility this summer, but that flexibility came with a price: the Blazers are getting clobbered nightly and are headed for the draft lottery for the first time in nine seasons.

“I have no idea who is playing now. I don’t!” Schonely said incredulously. “Somebody is either hurt or traded. I thought the other day: They are going to trade me! …. For who?”

He chuckles. But in truth, it is no laughing matter to him. It frustrates him to see the franchise in such transition, because perhaps more than anyone, he has to answer for it. No matter where he goes, he is recognized.

It's safe to say, Cronin wouldn't get equal value in a trade for The Schonz.

Honestly, Schonz seemed super old back when I was covering the team..... and that was almost 20 years ago! But I think keeping him active and around the team has kept him sharp. It's so much better than just sitting around the house for people his age.

I'm rarely emotionally impacted by the passing of celebrities, but when the Schonz climbs the golden ladder, I will undoubtedly weep like a baby.

If the Blazers don’t host some sort of an event at Moda to honor the Schonz before he leaves town, I’m going to be more pissed than I was when they canned him for no good reason.

So per Quick, he doesn't like the direction of the team and is going back home.

Sounds Drexler-esque...

That might be the most disrespectful thing someone could come up with, directed at Schonley. He's been the voice of the Blazers and Portland in general for decades, and has exuded nothing but class and loyalty.

He's 92 and slowing down. Going to the games is probably getting increasingly difficult and it seems like they want to live their final days where they are from.

Its more like Quick inventing a narrative from a sarcastical, fun remark from the Schonz.

Seriously? Didn't think the green font was needed on something so obviously a green font content. Apparently, that was incorrect.

Weird people would expect him to answer for state of team. Like blaming a journalist for bad news

If that was sarcasm, I apologize. That was exceptionally non-evident.

Ultimate respect for the "Schonz"! I'll start with a few of his memorable Schonzisms...

"Rip City" of course.
"Lickety brindle up the middle"
"You've GOT to make your free throws"
"Clyde glides for the jam"
"Climbs the golden ladder"
"Mercy, mercy... Jerome Kersey"
"Bingo, Bango, Bongo"
"Twardzik through the middle like a pinball."
"Nobody ever said it would be easy"

It should do us all in. Losing intentionally should never be an option. Schonley has too much class and pride to put up with this shit.
