Blazers looking at Danny Ferry

Ferry put together a team that won the most regular season games in the league, right? How is it his fault that the team didn't perform in the playoffs?

Because he is the person in charge of putting together a team that will be successful in the playoffs? I'm not an NBA owner, but I think I'd rather have my team win a title with the 8th seed than lose in the 2nd round with the #1 seed. Plus, a team like the Cavs, with LeBron, is always going to win a ton of regular season games because they have the best player and teams don't really put together extensive gameplans in regular season games. The playoffs is where you really start to see how well a roster is constructed/how well a team is coached.

Danny Ferry = Yuck.

I could never respect someone that was such a bust in the NBA. It would be like adam morrison being our GM in 25 years.

Billy Beane was a pretty big bust in baseball, but he's a reasonably good GM.

Beane was HUGE bust. I'll assume you read Moneyball ... hard to believe he was on par with Darryl Strawberry out of HS.

One thing about Ferry that would be funny is if the rookie-scale is changed and agents matter again in that process. Ferry refused to play for the Clippers out of college after they drafted him #2 and went to Italy for a year to play before forcing the Clips to trade him to Cleveland. I wonder how that could be used as leverage in negotiations with him?

How exactly did Ferry build the Cavs? He lucked into Lebron James, that's it. I'll give him credit for getting Mo Williams for cheap when he did but nobody else on that roster is capable of doing anything by themselves.

Yes, I have. And I was using understatement.

LOL. Danny Ferry's NBA career was much better than Pritchards, so there goes that theory.

Kp was a mid 2nd rounder, how was he a bust? Ferry was the number 2 pick overall and averaged 7ppg for his career.

I'm sorry, but this whole thread is just getting silly. EVERY GM in the league has a long list of mistakes on his resume. Drafting/trading/FA signing are not exact sciences. You can take any GM in the league and nit-pick his record apart.

You can do a hatchet job on KP's record to justify his firing, or you can do a hatchet job on every other GM to "prove" KP shouldn't have been fired. Or you can do both at the same time!

Ferry is not some flawless genius, and he is not Isiah Thomas. The first statement will be true of any GM the team hires. Just pray that the second is true.
