How is that much worse than Golden State?
In every single possible way imaginable that matters: offense, defense, coaching, playoff experience, their starters are better, their bench is MUCH better. In fact, I can't think of one single area where the imagined line up of Lillard, Crabbe, Danny Green, Kevin Love and Meyers Leonard would be as good, or better, than GSW's current roster.
Mags already mentioned defense, but to expound on that...
GSW is the best defensive team in the league. Draymond Green was 1st Team All Defense and 2nd in DPOY voting. Andrew Bogut was 2nd Team All Defense and 6th in DPOY voting and has led the league in Defensive Plus/Minus the last two seasons. Andre Iguodala was 1st Team All Defense last year when he was a starter - that's right, they have a guy coming off their bench who was 1st Team All Defense just a year ago. The Blazers would have Meyers Leonard and Kevin Love at the 5/4 defensively, matched up against Draymond Green and Andrew Bogut, two of the top 6 defenders in the league. Klay Thompson is better defensively (and offensively) than Danny Green (who would be the Blazers best defender) and Steph Curry is a better defender than Damian Lillard.
BTW, that proposed new line up takes away our 4 best defenders (Lopez, Aldridge, Batum, Matthews/Afflalo - who weren't exactly great defensively) and replaces them with Allen Crabbe, Danny Green, Kevin Love and Meyers Leonard. Green is the only one as good as any of the guys he'd replace. Crabbe and Leonard are young and unproven and Love flat out sucks on defense.
Offensively, also not close. Their best player just won MVP and an NBA championship. Curry is way better than Lillard at this point. He's a better shooter, better passer, better ball handler and better defender. He won MVP, and he won it easily. Lillard wasn't even mentioned in the MVP discussion and didn't get a single vote. Kevin Love would be our second best offensive player, and we all saw how he was exposed when he actually had to play on a good team with other scorers.
Bench - not even close. They had two players (Iguodala - 4th and Speights - 7th) finish in the top 7 in 6th Man of the Year voting. They just had a bench player (Iguodala) win the finals MVP and have another bench player (David Lee) who is only two years removed from being an All Star. They also have Speights (who averaged 10.4 PPG and had a PER = 19.5) and Livingston coming off the bench.
Coach: Steve Kerr just won COY and an NBA title. I like Stotts, but he's no Steve Kerr. He's been past the first round once in his entire career as a head coach.
The proposed line up of: Lillard, Crabbe, Danny Green, Kevin Love and Meyers Leonard would be lucky to win 35 games in the West. The lineup that won 54 and 51 games the last two seasons would match up much better against GSW, and even that's not close. GSW won 67 games and the NBA Championship. We won 51 games and got stomped in the 1st Round.
About the only thing that line up has going for it is youth, but GSW isn't exactly old. They just had two players (Draymond Green - 2nd and Klay Thompson - 5th) finish in the top 5 in Most Improved Player voting. Meyer's Leonard was the only Blazer to receive a vote - exactly one 3rd place vote, which was good enough to make him part of an 11-way tie for 2oth place in the MIP voting.
I guess the better question would be: How is that not much, much worse than Golden State?
