David Lee is not out of the woods yet. According to a league source, the Blazers have made another late play for Lee.

Sources say Knick president Donnie Walsh has told teams interested in Lee they'd have to take back injured center Eddy Curry, too. That's probably a deal-killer.

Packaging Lee with Curry is perhaps the only way Walsh will give up on the Knicks' popular power forward. Trading Curry would make the Knicks a shoo-in to be far enough under the 2010 cap to sign two maximum free agents - LeBron James and, say, Chris Bosh.

Re: Knicks making late play for Lee

Please Pritchard pull this off!

He would bring us much needed toughness and versatility.

Re: Knicks making late play for Lee

David Lee would be a great addition. He leads the League (or is very close to) in double-doubles.

Eddy Curry, on the other hand, could be a deal breaker. On the bright side, if Curry ever gets into basketball shape he would fit in a lot better with our slow, snail paced, methodical system that Nate loves to run.

Could Lee play SF? He's very athletic but I'm not sure if he has the lateral quickness.

Btw, didn't the Knicksblog.com have a writer say that the Knicks were showcasing Nate Robinson for us? Could we see maybe a Lee/Nate package?

Found it: (page 3)

BLAZERS

Key Pieces: Raef Lafrentz (expiring), Travis Outlaw, Sergio Rodriguez, Jerryd Bayless
Skinny: I’ve been hearing stuff about Nate (who had a monster showcase game the other night) to Portland, and a BS rumor was posted a while back regarding Rodriguez straight up. Here’s what I know. Seattle fans who love hoops have latched on to the Blazers and Nate is Seattle’s baby. His family is out there, as his mother was all over the MSG telecast. Nate would like to come home but it doesn’t appear as if the Blazers can meet his lofty contract demands. Nate is apparently preparing to ask for the moon. So we’ll see. Anyway, I think Outlaw gets moved if the deal is right. Sources have told me that he’s just too good to move and that teams haven’t caught on just how good he is. Knick fans saw it the other night. They want a point guard to keep Brandon Roy at the 2, and they are NOT ready to trust Bayless with the keys. They will be active, no question, and if they can get their point guard and another big body up front, maybe in exchange for Travis, they’ll be primed to make a move deep into the playoffs

Re: Knicks making late play for Lee

Why would the Knicks make a "late play" for Lee? They've already got him.

Re: Knicks making late play for Lee

I don't believe any rumor coming out of NYK.

Re: Knicks making late play for Lee

I'd love to see Lee in a Trail Blazer uni, but not if we have to take Curry also.

Simply waive Curry? Is getting Lee worth that?

lee isn't worth what we'd have to pay to keep him, let alone having to eat curry on top of it

Re: Knicks making late play for Lee

Taking Curry off their hands is not worth it. We already ate their Steve Francis deal. Curry makes $10 mil next season and $11 mil the next. I don't want us to suffer through eating up Isiah's horrid mistakes.

Re: Knicks making late play for Lee

I hope I don't sound to much like Mixum. I know KP has liked Lee but why try and trade for him now? Maybe Oden is injued a little worse and should miss more time then 1-2 games. I could see trying one last time to get Lee before making a different trade. If we did get Lee without Curry we could then trade for Salmons. If we got Lee + Salmons I would think that would really help us still get in the playoffs even if Oden is out a while. I still think Oden isn't hurt that bad and will be back soon but it is a worry after hearing we are making a offer for Lee.

Re: Knicks making late play for Lee

Lee is a FA after this season, right? I've read and heard he wants an eight-figure starting salary. I don't think the Blazers should want or will want to pay that kind of money to someone coming off the bench for 20 mpg.

Re: Knicks making late play for Lee

isnt the name of this thread wrong? KNIKCS?

Re: Knicks making late play for Lee

I've always thought Nate would be good on this team. I guess because he always kicks our ass when we play the Knicks. But really, even tough Paul is a billionare, would he want to take on Curry's contract?

With all of the guys we have to pay in the future, it would be his contract + lux tax.

But anyhow, this mid-range players like Lee are going to be very disappointed if they seriously expect teams to pay 10 mil a year for them. Those days are OVER.

Re: Knicks making late play for Lee

If the Blazers are really getting serious about contending, I think Lee would be a great addition. Of course, the issue arises: how would Aldridge/Lee co-exist? If Lee is willing to come off the bench, then I don't see how this wouldn't be a good trade for the Blazers. Sure, Lee has some deficiencies, but 16/12 big men don't exactly grow on trees. Lee gives the Blazers hustle, plenty of easy buckets, and versatility with his passing and ability to run the floor. The worst part of the deal would be taking on Curry's contract. He has been a huge disappointment this season, but it has been a rough season for him. He was mostly injured, plus his daughter and baby's mother were murdered. He gets a pass this season.

I'm assuming the Knicks would take back LaFrentz's contract while making a play for Bayless. I don't think Outlaw is going to cut it for Walsh. At the very least, he might want a first rounder.

pgs who can score??? why would we want that? we have sergo.

just like we have batum.... why would we want guys like jefferson or carter????

we cant give away future all starts like batum or sergio

We gave you a two year Steve Francis contract for a 5-year Zach Randolph contract. It was probably the best the Blazers could do without getting an expiring contract. Plus, they got Channing Frye who actually looked decent at the time.

We still wasted money on a player who we never wanted to play for us or be on our roster, while Zach was actually considered a piece that Isiah wanted on his team and thought a Zach/Curry/Steph combo would work.

It was a good deal for us in the end, but we still had to eat up another Isiah mistake.

The fact that the Knicks liked Randolph doesn't make it a bad move for the Blazers. They were looking to rebuild and the Knicks accommodated that need. If the Knicks gave them an expiring contract for Randolph straight up, chances are the Blazers would also be wasting money on a player they never wanted to play for them.

I was just saying because you brought up the five-year contract of Zach's but to Isiah, that probably didn't mean that much since he thought Zach was going to be a core player for them.
And not many expiring contracts cost teams more than $30-33 mil. And I didn't say it was a bad move for us, I was just saying we already ate up a bad contract from NY and probably don't want to eat up another Isiah mistake with Curry.

at this point every "deal" we've heard about has turned out to be dead which is always what they say about rumors. the only good news.... not much about butler accept ford. no news from washington or portland papers.

the only rumor that happened we heard about WAS the okc deal. thats cause their GM gets them what they need and makes things happen. This isnt fantasy baseball or football where you fall in love with your players. WTF...wake up pritchard.

I've been on the Lee bandwagon/hype train for some time now. If we can get him for cheap, then do it! As much as this sounds like sacrilege, he could make Aldridge expendable later on.....
