Blazers @ Miami Game Thread: Greg Oden's Debut Do-Over

I'm worried where Martell's minutes are going to come from. You're not taking any away from Rudy or Roy and they're taking 30-35 mins apiece.
He might have to accept just 20 mins a game.

He might never play for us again.:dunno:

I really think you'll see Frye lose his minutes to Outlaw. I think having Batum start gives Nate the flexibility to have Sergio and Oden (or Przy) surrounded by Rudy, Webs and Outlaw...3 guys you abso-smurf-ly cannot leave open, and 2 of whom (Rudy and Webs) will run crazily around off picks (who said "Rudy's Perpetual Motion Machine? I love it) until they get a clean look.

Frye and Diogu might never play again for us. (Expiring contracts for young guys that have shown they can play, but are big cap holds to us? Hm...)

impressed with sergio playing under control down the stretch. even hit a chris paul-type in the key shot.

Agreed. Besides Rudy's play I thought Sergio was the most impressive out there. He ran the team very well and did a good job on defense too.

This was just the start of what I was talking about before where some teams just won't be big enough to handle Portland down low. Too many big bodies hitting the boards. Some nights, teams just cannot deal with that. That is how Portland should play against a Golden State type of team.

Fernandez was awesome tonight. In the first half even though his shot wasn't falling, he was making productive plays to keep the team rolling. Steals, passes, loose balls. He drew at least 2 charges.

Sergio gets some props, running the team down the stretch, and a good time for Nate to sub in Blake for free throws. He got the team some really good looks inside, it was too bad on at least 2 plays where Aldridge fumbled the ball instead of putting the cap on it. It would not have been as close as game.

Roy was Roy, but you could tell he was struggling just a little bit with the back. He had the right attitude when they weren't getting calls to just keep attacking and making them make the call.

Who was it that predicted a winning streak after Roy's miracle buzzer beater over Yao? So far so good; 4 in a row and the last two on the road!

who do we play friday? new orleans? ouch win streak may come to end there. but we already are probably going to go over .500 on the road trip!

oden was alright. i look forward to him playing more

Exactly.

That's going to be the positive with all the depth we have in this brutal start. Guys shouldn't be too tired since we don't rely on anyone for 40 mins plus a game, and we're young.
We should beat Minnesota even though it's a back to back, and if we can get either New Orleans or Golden State, I don't think you could ask for anything more than a 4-1 record on this trip.

Oh, NO stays at 4th seed cuz they're leading their division. But still, we have the 4th best record.

Cue Jim Mora...[video=youtube;Qwq7BYOnDrM]"]

Man, Mashburn sure is a moron. Watched some of the halftime show of the Suns game and he was talking about Oden blocking a shot or something. Then they showed that nice dunk by Wade towards the end of the game and Mashburn said something to the effect of how Oden didn't block that dunk.

HE WAS ON THE F@#$#$ BENCH DUMBASS.

the blazers need to just let oden play within the offense instead of just forcing him the ball when he's in the game. let him set screens and move around and then flash to the post. they seemed to just go down and go for the post up everytime he was in the game.

when beasley and haslem were in the game together for the heat and aldridge and oden were in for portland, the blazers never took advantage of that matchup. it seemed like they always would end up going to whoever haslem happened to be guarding when they should have been feeding the post to whoever beasley had on that particular possession. beasley has little shot defending either of those guys in the post. of course, the heat did the same thing just using beasley as a spot up shooter when outlaw was on him for several possessions instead of feeding the post where he would have had the advantage. beasley was dominant in college going against players outlaw's size in the post.

i didn't think sergio looked good at all in the first half. he was really trying to force things and even though he only got credit for one turnover, it seemed like he had more. he played great in the second half though and got rewarded with a lot of 4th quarter minutes. nate's going to have to do a lot of riding the hot hand this year so it was nice to see him do it there.

I'd like to see The Dark Side of THAT Moon!

I think one problem with Oden is that he looks a little too shy out there. He has to get out there, get fired up, and play with a chip on his shoulder. He definitely needs an attitude.

It is pretty hard to have an attitude when you are out of shape, but more importantly haven't gotten a rhythm going. The guy has played a few pre season games and about 30 minutes of real NBA action with his team.

Joel isn't better than Oden, but if you watch him play you will see Joel knows what he is supposed to do on every play.

When Greg gets in shape and his team gets used to playing with him watch out.

Finally got to see this game.

Roy playing hurt and getting 22 points?
Aldridge with a stiff neck still gets 14?
Greg covered in cotton ball blocks a couple of shots and changes a couple of shots?
Sergio looking like a proper PG out there, actually playing some defense and burying some shots?
Batum blocking, stealing and not making mistakes?
... and Rudy getting comfortable out there. I said today it's just a question of time before he drops 30 on someone. Inch by inch....

This team is going to be scary good...

It's just a question of time...

Everyone. Name one rookie in history who played well. Just one, that's all I ask.

LeBron's first game:

[video=youtube;ZpFRV7EMDLU]

25 pts, 9 assts, 6 rebs, 4 steals, 12-20FGs

Probably one of the best games of his career and the only ball he had played prior was high school ball.

Tough for LeBron that Boozer didn't stay with him. Cleveland would have a hell of a team, and it would've been a lot better for us.

It's kinda great that Greg is starting on the road. He'll be all warmed up by the time he plays for the home fans. I'll look forward to that game. It should be great.
