@STEIN_LINE_HQ: official league memo: Camby extension w/POR is 2-year deal worth $17.7 million ($8,453,250 in '11 & $9,256,500 in '12)
@STEIN_LINE_HQ Camby's deal, though, does feature unspecified incentives as expected

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Marcus Camby has signed a two-year contract extension with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed Tuesday, however a source told ESPN.com's Marc Stein on Monday that the deal was likely to span two years in excess of $20 million.

The 6-11, 235-pound center was acquired from the Los Angeles Clippers on Feb. 16 in exchange for Travis Outlaw and Steve Blake. He started 23 regular season games for the Trail Blazers, reinforcing a position depleted by injuries to Greg Oden and Joel Przybilla.

Portland went 17-6 with Camby in the lineup, and the 36-year-old grabbed 17 rebounds Sunday as the Trail Blazers beat Phoenix in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series.

In a statement, general manager Kevin Pritchard said Camby has been a "great fit for us."

Interesting, seems a bit different than the 21 million + 4 million in unlikely bonuses that was initially floated out there. I wonder what kind of bonuses actually were written into the deal.

Storyteller on BEdge said that it's about 17.7 guaranteed, about 4 likely bonus, and 4 unlikely bonus. Essentially, Camby can earn 50% more of his salary as long as he plays hard. Great way to prevent him from pulling a Theo.

If KP really structured this deal as is rumored, PA should be proud, because it's terrific.

I hadn't heard that ... but, yeah if he structured the deal and got Camby to take it loaded with so many performance based incentives, then he did a very very nice job (maybe even enough to save his job).

This guy nailed it

I put this in the other post this morning, but thought I'd put it here as well OK, after investigating Camby’s situation a bit more closely, I have discovered that part of his current ‘base contract’ amount (ie, the amount that counts against the cap this year) is actually likely incentive money. Camby gets $500,000 in incentives for playing in at least 50, 55 and 60 games. These are considered likely incentives, so they count against the cap this year. In addition, he has an additional $2,225,000 in incentives that are, at the present, considered unlikely for cap hit purposes.

So, his guaranteed contract amount in 2009-10 is $7,650,000, with $1,500,000 in likely bonuses and $2,225,000 in unlikely bonuses.

Now on to the extension. A max extension would start at 110.5% of his 2009-10 contract amounts with a raise in 2011-12 equal to 10.5% of his 2009-10 contract amount. Giving us this:

2010-11 Guaranteed Salary: $8,453,250
2010-11 Likely Incentives: $1,657,500
2010-11 Unlikely Incentives: $2,336,250
2010-11 Amended Unlikely Incentives: $2,113,313
2010-11 Total Possible Salary: $12,224,063

2011-12 Guaranteed Salary: $9,256,500
2011-12 Likely Incentives: $1,815,000
2011-12 Unlikely Incentives: $2,447,500
2011-12 Amended Unlikely Incentives: $2,314,125
2011-12 Total Possible Salary: $13,385,625

Total Guaranteed Salary: $17,709,750
Total Likely Incentives: $3,472,500
Total Unlikely Incentives: $4,427,438
Total Possible Salary: $25,609,688

You’re probably wondering why I utilized the strike feature – no, it wasn’t an edit. If you take the amount of unlikely incentive money for 2009-10 and multiply by 110.5%, you get the amount of unlikely incentive money in 2010-11 that has been striken over. However, this amount breaks the rule of only allowing unlikely incentives to equal 25% of the guaranteed contract amount, so it has to be reduced to the amount that I refer to as the ‘amended’ unlikely incentive amount. Same goes for 2011-12.

In short, the cap hit of such an extension (guaranteed money plus likely incentives) would be $10,110,750 in 2010-11 and $11,071,500 in 2011-12, totaling $21,182,250. This, plus the maximum amount of unlikely incentive money, matches the general terms of the extension that the media is reporting.

Ahh what do I know . . . but if KP gave me 20 million to play with, I would have signed Camby too.

Nice move by the Blazers. I don't know what the future holds for Joel, but it seems unlikely that he'll end next season in a Blazers uniform.

Mar-Cus Camby!

Glad to see all the talk come to fruition. Perfect veteran fit for this team.

Nice work KP

I'll be happy for him if he can play basketball again. He had an injury that is usually career ending, twice.

No chance. Unless he comes back here in 5 years when his next contract is up and he signs for the veterans' minumum

This is fantastic news. Even if Oden gets injured again, we now have a great chance of winning a championship in the next two years. Period.

A great day to be a Blazer fan!!!

Camby has some game left in his tank! Good for you guys!

I want 10 Grand for every fucking missed layup he's had since he's got signed. god damn-it :)

Yeah, I know. His offensive game last night was even worse than usual. I'm hoping he comes out mad as hell on Thursday and puts up some good numbers.

I don't know why I feel so relieved when a player isn't grossly overpaid. But I do. Good job KP if true. I love the fair contract with lots of incentives.
