If Cho lands him, does that mean we start calling him the Cho-sen one?

Apologies, i thought this news needed its own thread, merge if needed

Im really puzzled at why this would come out, a day later.... hmm

b/c whoever broke the story wanted the sex appeal to be LAL or NYK, with ORL thrown in b/c they've been to the Finals. No way would CP3 go to LAL, run the triangle, and be K*be's li'l buddy

If he wants "SuperFriends", his best chance is to come here with Roy and Oden and whoever's left over from the purge. If it takes LMA and Batum to get it done, I understand why you'd hesitate, but you gotta pull that trigger.

I disagree. Who's our PF? The Lakers would beat that lineup.

Wendell Maxey doesnt think cho will trade batum...

@w_maxey @DJBReady...if / when cho inquires about paul, batum won't be on the table. may be a tough sell for the hornets.

I can't see what Dallas could offer that woudl entice N.O. Beaubois is nice, but duplicates Collison. Centerpiece of adeal being a young point isn't too worthwhile fo rthem. They have no other young assets to offer them.

According to Adrian W of Yahoo a while back, there were some conversations going on between the Blazers and Paul's camp(I think some may have even thrown out the word "tampering", so I would not doubt there have been conversations between the Blazers and Hornets over the past month, even after the reported rejected trade back around draft time. I think the news broke today about Paul wanting a trade and the Blazers being on the list since the Hornets hired a new GM (Demps) yesterday and now he won't look like the bad guy if he trades Paul. I also think the Hornets rescinded the deal with Luther Head because their ownership knew that a deal might be happening that would bring back some backcourt help. So, knowing that the Hornets are looking to dump other salaries with Paul, here's my deal:
Portland sends: Camby, Pryzbilla, Miller, Fernandez and Batum (hard to send Batum, but I really can't see sitting Matthews on the bench for the amount he's getting paid. They can start him at the 3 and he can guard the likes of Bryant and Melo, besides, trading Batum, not even a top 10 SF in the league for the top PG in the league is a no brainer).
NO sends: Paul, Okafor and Posey.

PTB:
C-Oden/Okafor
F-Aldridge/Pendergraph
F-Matthews/Cunningham
G-Roy/Posey
G-Paul/Bayless

Negotiating position.

If needed, I can't imagine Paul Allen refusing to trade Batum if he could somehow get Chris Paul.

Nope, the Blazers are acting like Batum is the fucking chosen one and they couldn't possibly part with him, in an attempt to pump up his perceived value.

Good news is that Monty Williams will vouch for the fact that Batum is the most exciting and skilled player he has seen on the Blazers. (doesn't mean that Batum ever realizes all that potential, but now it should help that he is seen as a big upside guy)

I dont like that idea. I dont care how good of a defender he is, he can not guard other SF's on a consistent basis. He's only 6'4''. I dont want Roy guarding the SF's either.

Dallas made it very difficult for themselves to make a strong run at Paul when they traded their best chip a short while ago, the unguaranteed contract of Eric Dampier. Dallas can still try, but if will be hard for them to craft a deal that makes sense for everyone.

Agreed. But, in their eyes, I suppose, if you find a deal you like, it's better to make that than to sit on your hands hoping a superstar becomes available.
Even still, yeah the immediate relief is nice, but I'd think they'd want something decent and young. I think out of the 4 teams listed, it easily in that regard comes down to us and NY.

Paul is begging to get out of NO, the Blazers have plenty of pieces (and money) to make it happen; at this point, if we fail to land Paul and keep the core players while doing so, then I have to say the new front office will have failed in their first big test. This seems like a lay-up, and deals shouldn't get much easier other than the names attached to it. If it takes Batum to get Paul, you have to make that deal.

Git 'er dun!

I really don't give a shit who they have to trade to get him. You don't get a shot at players of this caliber that often. Role players are a dime a dozen.
