If "Hoop Dreams" taught us anything, it's that things go wrong even those with NBA caliber talent.

How 'bout Damen Bailey? The next Larry Bird! Now he's workin' at a QuickyMart in small town Indiana pumpin' gas!

I've never seen a kid with these types of dribbling and hesitation moves.

Of course you haven't, you're a white kid from the the suburbs!

Cause I'm so far away from "the hood" right? I only have to drive 30 minutes in my brand new BMW to get to northeast!

You know I'm messin with you, it's just you have to admit, no hoopers come from out there! Within 30 blocks of where I grew up we had probably 25 guys that went on to play D1/D2 ball. Just while I was in HS! It's not your fault you live out there, I don't hold it against you fams!

What a neighborhood of fems! I went to a Mexican high school in California and the Mexicans wouldn't be caught DEAD going out for sports.

I used to tell my freshman buddy Nick Beltran (the one who gave me my first-ever truly disabling kick in the balls for defending him too closely) that he should go out for basketball, and he just wrinkled his face in disdain. Joining any system was for gringos.

I have 2 friends playing D3 and one playing D2.. all from Tualatin!

If those kids keep it up, they may not make the NBA, but they will surely get a free ride to college, and that's impressive by itself.

I wonder if those kids are taking HGH or something to boost their height. I was extremely short growing up, and my parents debated putting me on some of that shit cause the doctors estimated I would end up 4'8" - 5'2" max. They ended up not putting me on anything and I had some late growth spurts that pushed me up to 5'9", very average. But those hormones are supposed to add 3-6 inches in a growing boy. I would have been up to 6'3" if my parents had decided to put me on the stuff.

But c'mon man...... they're white! They can't be that good!

LOL. Sort of like they folks that talk about not having proportionate amount of black coaches out there "because they're black, so they can't coach that well!"

My amigo, you will soon learn that the HCP tends to be a smart ass.

I know. I think you will find I am as well (hence why I threw the gas on your fire). LOL.

Well you should know that I run this place, but I think we will get along. Hey man, I met you once. Jim Taylor introduced us last season.

Did I provide my disingenuous smile and shake your hand, then promply wipe my hand off on my handkerchief while moving on?

They are not "real" blacks......... but more like Carlton from the Fresh Prince kind, right?

Not really actually. He is kind of a mix of what you call a "real" black and a Carlton type.

BTW, does "real" black just mean a black person from a poor neighborhood or family to you?

It seems that people think that just because a black person is from the suburbs they aren't a "real" black person. They are often called white washed. That is racist.

I was totally joking, but as somebody who was surrounded by the brothas growing up I don't count black suburban kids as black. They just aren't the same as my boys I grew up with. No street cred, sorry!

No, but while using hand sanitizer, you told me my PER was somewhere between that of Ruben Boumtje Boumtje and Qyntel Woods......... which I took as a compliment!

I don't understand how you can not count them as black. They arguably face more racism on a daily basis being surrounding by white people than black people from the city do when there is a higher percentage of black people. Whenever my friend goes anywhere, it is very likely that he is the only black person there. Even none racist white people notice that he is black. I have had people be racist towards him in many ways when I was with him and I've heard about more. You can say he doesn't have street cred, but I do think it is incredibly ignorant to say he doesn't count as black.

You mean Alameda street cred? pssssh!

There aint no street cred like St. Johns street cred.

They are trying to join the white world and its conservative value system. That's how they are less black, culturally, than blacks not doing so.

But in posting this, I realize that I invite arguments from those against multiculturism (in which separate black cultural values conflict with white ones). I know, I know--you say that there is right (the European legal tradition) and wrong (the traditions of the rest of the world). I'm not getting into this argument.
