Well understandably I'm happy.:ghoti::clap:

Let's relive Mills dropping 20 on Kidd, Williams, and Paul.

"He's good. Man, he's fast. I read something that says he's faster than me. They're probably right. He can move."
-- Chris Paul, USA point guard

"I'm just glad my Duke team doesn't have to play Saint Mary's. He'll be an NBA guard."
-- Mike Krzyewski, USA Head Coach

I'm not expecting to see the show Mills put on against team USA, but the kid has some jets and against other second unit guys he could be a nice player -- probably a helluva lot better than Taurean Green

So does this mean Bayless won't be handling PG duties in summer league?

This pick was the saving grace of the draft for me tonight. I like Claver, but not sending two 2nd rounders to Dallas when we could have had him at #24. I hated the Sergio trade and we could have likely gotten Pendergraph at #33 and Cunningham at #38.

Bayless has to play PG in Summer League, because we blew our chance for Hinrich and traded our backup PG. Otherwise Paddy Mills is our #2 if Jerryd turns out to be a SG in a PG body.

The only pick that made sense tonight..we could have had a Blair/Mills draft..AHHHHHHH

We could've had Cunningham at 55.

Portland gives Boomer Patrick Mills a chance

Mills became the Gaels' first NBA draft choice since the Golden State Warriors selected Peter Thibeaux in the fifth round in 1983.

He is the school's highest pick since the then-Philadelphia Warriors grabbed Tom Meschery in the fifth overall spot in 1961.

"He's the first guy who got drafted from here in like 20 years and it's exciting," Gaels coach Randy Bennett said.

"I know this - the Trail Blazers got a great person, and I think he can play in that league."

According to one Western Conference scout, not every team was sure about that.

No one argues Mills brings great speed to the game. "They're all talking about how fast (Ty) Lawson is free-throw line to free-throw line," the scout said.

"I think Mills is faster. He's a blur. In the open court he's great."

The same scout suggested that in halfcourt situations Mills has shooting guard skills, but a point guard's body at not quite 6 feet tall.

"That's something he's got to overcome," the scout said.

"Because of his size and how he played with the Aussies, he's always regarded as a point guard. I didn't see him breaking down and creating. He's most effective when the ball is not in his hands and he's coming off picks."
To me Paddy's strenghts and weaknesses suit us well.

Push the ball up court on the fast break with his speed, either take it to the hoop, or dish; if nothing's on give the ball to Roy, and play SG to Roy's PG.

I'll be surprised if Cunningham sees one minute of meaningful PT this season..

Patty Mills, Nate and I talked a little bit about it, talked a lot about it, his experience in the Olympics with the Australian team was a factor in us drafting him. He’s played against the best, he’s a tough kid. He’s really quick north and south and he can shoot it, so he’s got a chance for the 55th pick, he’s got a chance in our league.

Patty Mills, he’s got a chance. He does have an international passport, we hope to have him on the summer league team. Then we will see.

We didn’t think Mills would be there at 55. It got to be in the late 30s and 40s and he was pretty high on our board and we were really hoping he would get there because as we go through our process, he was the highest watermark for us. We feel pretty lucky to get him.

I don’t want to get too excited about the 55th pick in the draft, but it’s really not where you get picked, it’s how you feel about a kid. This kid is going to come in and compete. We know that. He’s competed at an international level; he had success at the Olympics. He broke his hand and that probably hurt him in the draft. Nate knows him as well as anybody. Nate had a lot of input on him.
Sounds like its up to Patty to prove himself in summer league.

It won't help him that Bayless will be running the point at summer league.

Although coach Nate seems to like him.

Christ, another Nate pick. Not that there was anyone else worth taking.

A short article in the San Francisco Chronicle on a local college product. At least he'll get a big cheer in Oakland.

Coming into this draft I didn't think June 25 was the important date,

What was important was the first day of practice with the team where I'd have to step my game up and prove that I belong on the team.

That's what I can control.

I just need to work hard and prove I can play at this level.

This means a lot to indigenous Australians and all young Australians,

I take it upon myself to be a role model and I stand strong to represent them in a good manner.
Don't underestimate his desire to be a good role model, especially for indigenous Australians.

It really means a lot to him to be both a leader, and a positive influence for his people.

I think it's hilarious when we start saying that a player is a "reach" in the second round. Maybe the NBA should expand back out to more than two rounds? lol

Are you saying it's not possible to reach for a player at #31 or #33?

Ed O.

In a draft as fluid and generally considered weak as this one was? I think pretty much every player outside of the top ten this year is mostly a crap shoot or a born role-player (of course there will be exceptions). We won't really know if these guys were a reach or not until the end of summer league or during the season or maybe even in the season after that.

I tend to err to the notion that Chad Buchanan, Jason Fillipi, and KP have a better eye for talent than I do, now we wait and see I guess.
