As the basketball players at St. Mary’s Home For Boys strolled into their gymnasium Wednesday, poised to play what was supposed to be a run-of-the-mill scrimmage, their jaws dropped, their eyeballs nearly popped out of their sockets and smiles stretched across their faces.

Standing in the tiny, dimly-lit gym was an unexpected opponent: The Portland Trail Blazers.

“I could not believe it,” one boy said. “This is the best day of my life.”

I don't know who's idea it was, but awesome move by the team. Those boys will never forget it.

Good job, sounds like the kids had a blast. And th 50K is certainly needed.

Outstanding PR move.

Hopefully Stotts used it as a teaching tool to show the Blazers the kind of defense other teams are seeing when they play us

You always remember stuff like this when you're a kid. I remember all the times I met Blazers at that age.

Jerome Kersey signed autographs at Thriftway on Garden Home.

Danny Ainge stayed way past when he said he had to leave at Clackamas Town Center.

Rod Strickland came to my school when I was in 7th grade and did a QnA.

Never forget that stuff.

Didn't they do this same thing a year or two ago?

I remember playing in a tournament at St. Mary's's Home for Boys a couple of times in the 70's. We got to go 10 on 1 against Darrall Imhoff. Unlike Wilt we did not score much. The next year it was Dale Schlueter.

We did not exactly pull in the big names.......
