Blazers @ Rockets game thread 1/5/11

Over the Jazz wins? No way.

But we're not battling the Jazz over that last playoff spot. The Rockets know it's either us or them that will get the 8th spot, so these games carry double the signficance.

Big thing here is that we now have tiebreakers against both PHX and HOU.

I was seriously laughing out loud at that Up and Under lefty layup he had on Jordan Hill late. That was just such a beastly, post move, with amazing footwork.

When did LA learn that move?!

Aldridge looked so freakin' dominant tonight. Nobody could stop him. Hill, Patterson, Scola, and Miller were all baffled by LaMarcus' post moves.

I would trade an expiring contract, or an expired player, for Lowry.

Really? Lowry got abused by Mills, and he was the only Houston starter with a negative +/- for the game.

I really liked the move to keep Patty in there over Miller. Really hated how Miller was trying to go 1 on 1 when Aldridge was killing it. Unless your name is Derrick Rose or something I don't want my PG going 1 on 1.

IDK, man. Dre was on fire when Nate pulled him.

Miller hit shots early in the half when no one else was hitting. Patty was doing well so I had no problem with him in to finish.

Winning in Utah is better than winning in Houston. And don't sell us short. Not too late to challenge Utah for the division if we keep playing like this.

A strategy destined to fail. Aldridge was beasting and Miller was calling his own number and not getting the ball into Aldridge. I didn't really like it.

Besides, the more shooters on the floor the better it is for Aldridge. Just another example of Miller's lack of shooting hurting the Blazers. You need to be able to space the floor.

This is my thought as well. Dre seriously could not miss in the third. He was killing Lowry.

The Blazers scored 19 points in the third while the Rockets scored 33. Miller's ISO brand of ball in the 3rd got bailed out in the 4th by the bench.

I really can't take anything you say about Dre seriously.

That's fine. I'm merely pointing out the the Blazers were being outscored 33-19 in the quarter where Miller was 'abusing' Lowry.

If I'm wrong in that information, please correct me.

I missed it because my wife kept making me do things, but did Camby get hurt?

Nope. Nate just wanted to play small to match the Rockets, I think and to get quicker on defense and transition offense.

No one was hitting their shots and then Miller started hitting keeping the BLazers in it early in the first half when no one else could. He only did what he had to. We would have been down by 20 instead of 13 probably if not for Miller.

All I know is that if a Blazer player scores 45 points at home, the Blazers better win that damn game.

Nice performance by Martin shooting 13-18 including 6-8 from three point range and 13-15 from the free throw line. But better performance by the Blazer team.

Sweet win . . . this team is winning at home and on the road now.

Hmmmm, purdy.

im making new zealand proud all over the world.

My heart just stopped.

Gutty win. Game ball to Aldridge. Dante and Patty honorable mention.

Give an honorable mention to Rudy as well, and Nate for sticking with the hot hand.

I thought for SURE the damn refs were going to call a 3 shot foul with 0.2 seconds left!

A few thoughts:

1. I thought Rudy made a hell of a defensive effort on that last play, and it didn't get mentioned a lot. Rudy and defense don't usually get a lot of mention together. But he made a hell of a play there and did a great job staying on his feet and not buying the fake.

2. The Houston announcer (Clyde being one) were hilarious. They completely ripped on the Rockets for melting down, and were lamenting and marvelling at Aldridge, and the inabilty of Houston to deal with him. At the end, it was as if they had lost their minds. Even though it is early in the season, I believe everybody recognized the playoff implications with Portland winning at home and on Houstons home court. We now own the tie breaker with 2 of the teams we may fight with for those last 2 spots.

3. Lamarcus Aldridge - We are not worthy of your performance. :ohno:

4. Front line: Our front line starters have been averaging over 20 rebounds a game for some time now, and have even had games where between Camby and Aldridge they got over 30 rebounds. That is glass domination pure and simple. Now, if we can somehow get the offense clicking more efficiently, that is the recipe to a lot of wins. If you shoot a high percentage and win the rebound war resoundingly, you will win most of your games.

5. Bench - Thanks for stepping up last night. It is obvious the bench players are still getting experience, but I can tell they are absorbing knowledge slowly and surely. You could tell the difference between their game closure against Dallas and the one against Houston was night and day. Instead of looking confused at the end, they looked like they knew exactly where they wanted to go, and executed.

PA's take on the game:

PaulGAllen Paul Allen
Rip city on the road in Houston, LA, Patty, Rudy everyone contributed...!

I was cracking up at this as well
