Man, I struggle to come up with a reason to play Vonleh this year. Is he really a guy that you look to re-sign next year after investing two first round picks on bigs? If Biggie and Zach show any signs of being able contributors this year, Vonleh is injury insurance only imo.

If he shows through camp and preseason that he's the clear best fit alongside Nurk in the starting lineup, I guess I'd be ok with it--I just hope the staff doesn't fall in love with small sample sizes again and makes it an open competition for that starting 4 spot.

Who you talking to here? I don't think anyone has said we have too many good players. If anyone ever said that, it was probably you.
Someone said we need a consolidation trade. Too many players need minutes, this poster said. I never understand that talk. Unless you're getting Pippem in the trade.

It's not that we have too many good players, it's that we have too many average role players. Consolidating two average big men (Ex. Davis and Aminu) for a good guard to replace Crabbe would improve us talent wise as well as balance our lineup between bigs and guards.
Ahh. Still need 14-15 players though. Also, remember how bad we were without Aminu last year? We aren't trading him. Not even for Melo.

Aiight here's my guess on what Olshey is planning with NY if Anthony gives the OK.

To Portland:

Carmelo Anthony
Kyle O'Quinn
Courtney Lee (this is a separate trade using our trade exception we got for Crabbe)

To New York:

Mo Harkless
Meyers Leonard
Noah Vonleh
Ed Davis
Pat Connaughton
Protected first

New York gets best case scenario at this point for Melo. Young pieces and a pick. It's inevitable that they'll have to take on a shitty contract for Anthony, so relatively speaking Leonard isn't the worst option. Trading Lee makes sense for New York. Acquiring Lee makes sense for us. KOQ intrigues me but we can do the trade without him and Davis, whatever.

Rotation:

Dame
CJ
Anthony
Swanigan (wouldn't count out Collins though)
Nurkic

Second unit:

CJ
Lee
Turner
Aminu
O'Quinn

10th man in rotation: Collins

Bang bang.

I just want the season to start. im even more bored than bored. I bet no one could tell though, lol.

Weve discussed sooooo much of everything, I want some answers!!!

Here's a problem as I see it. We have IMHO 10 guys who deserve PT, with 2 more on the border. Seems like we need a consolidation trade. Who do you think should be starting, who do you think is "Rotation Worthy"?

Big 3
Dame
CJ
Nurk

Small 2
Harkless
Vonleh (at least for now)

Rotation Worthy
Crabbe
ET
Aminu
Collins
Davis

Borderline Rotation Worthy
Swanigan
Napier

Practice Dudes
Biebs
Pat C.
Layman
Wait a minute. You have Collins rated ahead of Swanigan??

The thing with Collins vs Swanigan is that you can reasonably expect Collins to be a non liability defensively.

As good as Biggie looked in summer league, I still think he's most likely inefficient offensively and bad defensively next year.

I've said it before, summer league means NOTHING, when it comes to the regular season. Hope and wish all you want. Noah will get the PT, the two rooks will take awhile to adjust if they do at all. VonLeh has proven he can thrive next to Nurk in the starting 5 when it counts.

Hope the 5 of you that hate me on here don't think I'm bragging when I tell the following story......
Was with the family at the zoo yesterday and ran into Ed Davis. Looked fantastic, said he couldn't wait to get back at it. A lot of us forget 2 years ago, he played very well for us at times. Really hoping he is back and healthy to back up Nurk this year. Said he feels great! My daughter actaully Snapchatted it.......

I know Ed is "undersized", but this picture makes him look small (for an NBA player).

Not sure why people think we need a consolidation trade because we have too many good players. We still need 14-15 players on the roster. Are you suggesting we need more bad players on the roster? And if we do that, we're screwed when there are injuries.
Your the one that wants Carmelo so bad.

Based upon what we saw in Summer League and subsequent trade of Crabbe......I see the rotation as follows:

Starters: Lillard - CJ - Harkless - Vonleh - Nurkic
(note: I could see Swanigan take PF from Vonleh initially if he's really ready)

Bench: Napier - Connaughton/Goodwin - Turner - Swanigan - Leonard
(note: I would like to see motivated Goodwin beat out Pat C for SG time)

Not getting much time: Collins - Aminu - Davis - Layman

Looks like the sun was in your eyes. Either that or your trying to show off the guns?

Haven't forgotten Ed's first season in Portland. If he can get back to this level backing up Nurkic this year, that's big.

nevermind the summer league, I want to see Collins and Swanigan playing serious basketball with serious players, and Im hoping to see that this preseason

There's zero percent chance Aminu is at the end of the bench. If he doesn't start, he'll still play starter type minutes.

And THIS is the reason why I was so blown away that a bunch of you on here claim we will have home court advantage in the playoffs!

I agree with you on the starters, but I don't see much time for Connaughton, Goodwin, or Napier. I see Lillard, McCollum and Turner being used in a three guard rotation with those other guys only getting spot minutes. Chief will get some minutes at 3 and 4. Swanigan will get time at both 4 & 5. Leonard, who the heck knows? Like most around here, I hold out little hope for him in rehabbing his game, but would be thrilled if he did. Collins is going to have to earn any minutes he may get.

Collins is a better defensive player than Leonard and Swanigan. That alone should put him right in the mix for playing time. Summer league didn't tell me anything except he needs to get stronger. Everything else is there. It's only natural that Swanigan looked more refined, he's a year older.

I don't believe the Blazers rotate and that they are actually flat.

In my ideal world where both Collins and Biggie are contributors....

Dame/CJ
CJ/Turner
Harkless/Aminu/Turner
Collins/Aminu
Nurkic/Davis/Collins

With Biggie and Layman/Connaughton as your fringe 9th and 10th guys.

Clutch Lineup: Dame/CJ/Harkless/Aminu/Nurk

I'd be totally fine with giving all the front court minutes To Nurk/Collins/Aminu/Biggie though. I just expect Ed Davis to be too good not to be played his usual 17-20 minutes per game if he's healthy and available. Looks like he's dropped all that weight that he put on last year and when he's right, I think he's clearly better than Leonard and Vonleh.

And I know I talked about the Vonleh situation earlier, but it really seems that if he doesn't separate himself as the clear 5th starter, he's going to struggle to find minutes. Ed Davis is a better player and I prefer Swanigan's skill set with most all potential bench units as long as he's not a complete liability defensively.
