<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Blazers Owner Paul G. Allen today announced the organization has hired Steve Patterson as its new president. Patterson joins the Blazers from the Houston Texans, where he was senior vice president and chief development officer of the NFL team.

Prior to joining the Texans, Patterson spent four years as president, general manager and governor of the Houston Aeros International Hockey League team. His considerable professional basketball experience includes nine years with the Houston Rockets NBA team, where he was general manager from 1989-1993. Patterson begins serving as president of the Blazers today, and will relocate to Portland with his wife and three children.

"This is an exciting opportunity for me and I jumped at the chance to come to Portland and be part of this vibrant community," said Patterson. "Being able to work with a great franchise like the Trail Blazers, and collaborate with the professionals in the front office to move the organization to the next level, is something I’m eager to get started! My family and I are really looking forward to our new life in the wonderful Pacific Northwest."

"Steve brings a unique combination of seasoned sports team experience, operations, front office expertise, and a real passion to the job of Blazers president," said team owner Paul G. Allen. "Our search was thorough and we looked at many candidates. With Steve’s leadership and fresh approach, we are beginning a new era for the franchise.”

In his role as president of the Portland Trail Blazers, Patterson will oversee all business, sales & marketing, facilities management, and operational aspects of the NBA team and the Rose Garden arena, home to the Blazers.

Patterson takes over the role from former president and general manager Bob Whitsitt, who stepped down from the position of Blazers president and GM to focus on his responsibilities as president of the Seattle Seahawks NFL franchise, which Allen also owns.

During the 40-day search effort for a new president, led by Blazers vice chair Bert Kolde, the Blazers sourced more than 1,600 people (including 100 direct referrals), reviewed 145 actual applications, including 33 from Oregon, and interviewed more than 30 final candidates.

I don't think Patterson can be helped out

Is trader Bob still president of the seahawks?

Patterson was probably our worst GM...I think even Prichard was better then him

It seems to me like Patterson was fairly intelligent, but had absolutely no eye for nba talent. Monya and Khryapa are the future man.

Yeah the future of the Russian D league

Wasn't Nash the GM during most of Patterson's tenure? I think Patterson was active GM for a short time frame though.

Didn't Patterson try to take credit for the Roy draft?

he was only the GM for 1 season and that was only as a stand in as his hire (John Nash) had failed so spectacularly & had to be dismissed as the chicken had come to roost.

My vote for worst GM goes to Nash who failed on all fronts. Horrible drafts & trades, and smug too. I think some still hold him in good standings because he would answer their emails.

Nash was a hatchet man but still managed to fuck it up.

We traded Kryhapa and the four for LaMarcus yeah?

Feel free to call him the Texas Turncoat (TT for short). I gave y'all that one for $0. Like the Polio vaccine, it was free and we should give it to all our kids! :drumroll:

WTF is this? A Zombie Bump©? You raisin' long dead threads to walk about the living ones?

But I have to copywrite the one above. Y'all MFs will steal a brotha's joke!

It seemed like he was hired to tear the team down. That he did. I imagine it didn't look too good on the resume though.

Yes this happened. My question was who we could have drafted instead of he and Monia. I'm to lazy to look it up right now.
Tony Allen and Kevin Martin it looks like. Sure those two would have been better than Viktor and Monia but not franchise changing.

Same reason I haven't responded. ..hehe
I know Verajoa (sp?) was selected after. Oh, and Kevin Martin.

He tore the team down yes but Neil just showed you can tear down a team and get decent assets in return. Nash's big signings were Chuck Person and Steve Blake.

On the heels of Portland winning 8 of 10 when they played Wallace at 5, Nash made his big trade moving Rasheed for SAR & Theo. Sheriff's game was a duplication of Zach's on both ends. They were anything but complimentary (no shit!) & Rahim walked when he reached FA. Injury plagued & old Ratliff played okay when healthy and parlayed that into a max deal from Nash which he largely was injured for. Basically, while Sheed was off competing for championships in Detroit, Nash had parleyed Portland's biggest asset into multi-year dead weight on the IR. At the time it happened I was beside myself that they'd passed on Detroit's offer instead of Atlanta's as capspace + a 1st pick seemed a much better option then old vets who don't fit with whats in place... if you're tearing down while also building for the future.

In the draft Nash twice passed on the opportunity to add many future starting studs including a HOFer for HS eye candy. Being hoodwinked into Martell dreams after watching him shoot jumpers over Jameer Nelson and Rashad McCants was especially nauseating. NBA teams collectively thought so much of his Portland tenure that he was out of the league for 2 seasons before landing a scouting gig with the 76ers, (insert joke here).

I wouldn't want to rain on anyone's parade (especially today)...but I was under the impression that the term "NecroBump" had been utilized by some, in previous instances... ;)
