There's 14 and 15 year olds can provide good insight though. But while we're at it I guess we can guess each others ages...

Ha! Remember the first decade of the new millennia when like bands like ummm Arcade Fire (is that it?) were going to rule the world. Owh! That's the choice of MY GENERATION! Comic book movies rule!

I'm not even 30 but I'll take that as a compliment hah.

Back on topic......

In response to Barfo, I'd like to say...
I LOVE players with yellow/red flags.

Clyde Drexler had red flags (he couldn't shoot)
Terry Porter had red flags.
Jerome Kersey had red flags.
Duckworth had red flags.
Sabonis had red flags.
Roy had red flags.
Wes had red flags.
Batum had red flags.
.........................................................

If a player doesn't have red flags of some sort, then they are priced out of our market. So, I love players with red flags. These flags allow rival GMs to get nervous and pass them up, allowing us to swoop in and pick them up at a discount.

In this case, we get a top talent for what is essentially zero. He does take up a roster spot, and has a minuscule salary. So yes, I'm excited by Alexander.

Just spent 10 minutes trying to figure out what it was that I said... I think you were responding to oldmangrouch. I am a grouchy old man, but grouchy old men are like snowflakes, no two alike.

Just watched some highlights of Alexander from the hoop summit in Portland and I'm pretty sure Olshey was sitting in his regular seat. The more I watch of Alexander the more I believe he could be a center, especially in today's game. He plays bigger than whatever his listed height is.

This board has reached devastating new lows as far too many posters are far to willing to criticize the signing of camp invites... apex mistaking a camp invite for the GM's concept of a home run signing. SMH.

It's even worse because I think this is one of those players who will last a long time in the league as a quite valuable player with some very nice contracts along the way. I think this is a case of GMs acting like lemmings based on flawed analysis and hysteria type madness.

Olshey didn't need to convince us. Only ownership. There were at least a couple of posters here that saw LMA's departure coming. Why didn't Olshey?

Name one poster that was saying such during last season before Wes injury.

No one is counting on him. We are simply excited about his potential. The fact that we got him at such a low price is even better.
Exactly this. He's the lowest possible contract u can give. So if he can read his potential, he's gonna be a steal!

This. The comment you were commenting on, is what frustrates me most. Guys need to understand what is going on, but instead look at guys and think there will be no championship this year. Instead they should look at the guys we brought in and see the potential. Some, or probably most is more likely, won't be all-stars, but if even 1 can, then we should be excited. Alexander has a skill that translates to the NBA, so getting him for virtually nothing is a GREAT thing.

I, for one, am jacked that we are trying something different.

Alexander sounds like a bit of a head case to me.

Amen!

Wrong. They weren't saying it during last season before Wes injury. "I believe" is a different tone than your previous posts.

Its easy to blame Olshey or anyone when you have the benefit of hindsight.

I wish I could like a thousand times

I realize that Blazer fans are in various states of emotion regarding the current roster but to be genuinely excited is, well, an "interesting" way to be. Unlike the last squad, we have a number of players in different stages of professional development. Projected starters like Nards and Henderson are unknown quantities due to inexperience and injury. We should be guarded with our expectations not excited we pulled a freshman power forward out of the Summer League garbage can. It's like cherishing a lump of coal just because it might turn into a diamond. These players have to prove they can form a core that can jell and compete. And if Olshey can't keep them together..... we f-cking end up right back here again in a few years.

Why "should" we be "guarded with our expectations". Where's the fun in that? If you want to be emotionally distant from the team until they've proven themselves safe to root for, that's your prerogative, but don't act like there's anything wrong with us who are excited over potential.

You know why we're excited over the coal (terrible analogy by the way)? Because it's not graphite--made of the same material, and useful for what it is, but no possibility of being anything more. Yeah, this team might not turn into anything special...but it could. Those of us who are excited see the possibilities and want to enjoy the ride, regardless of how it might end. There's no need to denigrate that.

Im for thinking a fan can interpret their team's situation however they want. Some prefer a pinch of salt and some prefer unbridled optimism. Each has their place in the overall scope of things. A fan base as well rounded as the Blazers takes all sorts.

Damn MM, more positivity? I love it and agree 100%!!! :)

I think i look at things fairly, with a pessimistic view. To me its silly complaing about a guy who might not make our roster who we got for nothing. Great skill that normally transfers. Why the fuck not?

Its not like he is an American born white center or a guy from Syracuse we used a lottery pick on.

Yeah. Who did they think we were going to get for that roster spot? There are lots of things to like about Cliff Alexander. He was a top-five recruit coming out of high school with tremendous athletic ability and could become a dominant bruising big man with time. He is worth looking at during a rebuilding season as a low risk, high reward player.

I can see this kid's upside be at DeAndre Jordan's level. His downside could be as low as Qyntel Woods level of disappointment.

The major difference... He is on a cheap contract, so there is little to no risk
