Somewhat insightful article.

Roughly 175 miles north of Portland, in the posh surroundings of the Bellevue Club, the seeds were planted for Cho's vision. It was there in August, at the lavish hotel and state-of-the-art fitness club in the Seattle suburb, that Cho gathered the key players of the Blazers' management team and scouting department for a three-day retreat.

There were meetings to debate and discuss strategy and process. There were dinners so new staff members could get to know one another. Cho revealed his leadership philosophy and management style and everyone was given an open forum to share ideas.............

I thought this was good to see........

Chad Buchanan and Michael Born, who had been integral scouting voices under Pritchard and ran the team day-to-day before Cho was hired, turned to Rosenberry and Branch during a meeting and asked for their honest evaluations of the Blazers' roster.

What they heard, as well as learning about the ways different organizations handle scouting and evaluating players, was as rewarding as anything for Buchanan.

"A fresh perspective on our team has been really good for us," Buchanan said. "We're around our team and our players all the time, so you develop a strong opinion about them. To have guys like Rich, Steve and Bill come in and give you kind of an outsiders perspective, it makes you kind of change gears with how you think about your team. It was kind of the tip of iceberg for us, with our staff, getting in a room and bouncing ideas off of each other."...........

A corporate retreat. That's the outside the box thinking we've been missing! Ingenious!

Did they share towel covers in the sauna?

That second excerpt says the scouts were happy to hear a fresh perspective, but doesn't tell us any meaningful details. Was the fresh perspective that all our players suck? I'm sure it included both positive and negative, but we're left clueless.

A Portland Trail Blazer retreat in the Seattle area. Didn't see that one coming! Ingenious!

It's part of the plan to move the team to Seattle next season.
