Trade Blazers trade for Robert Covington!! (1 Viewer)

I see Roco as a swing 4, with Hood at 3. Zach off the bench. Whoever it is that starts, Covington gives us that flexibility we have been desperately lacking.

Covington plays with attitude....but he's around 210 lbs. Not exactly PF material.

Another Tennessee State guy?
Know who the other was?

You're kidding right?

Nope. Career sub 11 PER, including *single digit* PERs in the last 3 seasons (the last 2 as a starter), shoots poorly from the floor, is *35* years old, and it would be incredibly stupid to send someone who is 20 or 21 years old for a guy who will be out of the league in a couple years.

had absolutely nothing to do with Covington who flourished in that role.

Free agency will answer that question imo. Will be interesting to see who olshey signs. If it’s Millsap, the answer is pretty obvious. Either way, I’m sure we’ll see plenty of lineups with Roco at the four. Remember, Hood played minutes there before he went down. If terry thought he could do it, I’m sure he won’t hesitate to put Covington there.

They played the guy at center last year. He's the quintessential stats don't tell the story player.

He's still 35 years old, and on the tail end of his career (which was never anything special to begin with).

Against the Lakers, he averaged 4 rpg, 0.4 bpg and had 3 games (out of 5) where he made 2 baskets or less playing center. Guess we just have a different interpretation of the word 'flourishing'.

5 game sample size? want me to show you how awesome Meyers was in the conference finals last year too?

he was 210 coming out of college 7 years ago. You don't think he's added any weight since then?

Yeah, and it fits what the Blazer sare looking to do in the short term, especially with the RoCo trade. He's more likely to contribute more to a winning team in that one year than Simons and Little will for the remainder of their rookie deals, if last year is any indication.

Playoffs is when it matters. Case in point, Meyers didn't play in this year's playoffs after being a decent role player all season.

I hope this deal signals the end of Melo time in Portland.

One underrated aspect: Ariza was actually quite good in the time he was here, but at 35, he may not be as good as he was last year.

I think Melo will still be a Blazer next season sorry

I think it’s kinda funny how the Jrue trade overshadows the Covington one. That guy can’t NOT get in our fucking way, I can’t stand him wow!

And at the start of last season, people wanted to dump Gary Trent Jr (myself included).

RoCo? He's turning 30 in a couple of weeks.

Wasn't referring to Covington, PJ Tucker was brought up by a poster, at the cost of Little or Simons.

No sane GM is going to trade a 19-21 year old player with potential for a 35 year old (will be 36 by the time the season is over) who is on the downward end of his career.

Ariza was older than Covington, which is why it's not a big deal.
