The answer: Batum had been cupping, a new form of treatment introduced to the team this season from Chris Stackpole, the Blazers' Director of Player Health and Performance.

Center Chris Kaman is the most frequent user of Stackpole's latest implementation, and he too has the circular marks on his back. Kaman is so enthralled and impressed with the treatment he has had it performed on his back, shoulders and thigh.

Cupping is an alternative treatment form where suction cups are placed on an area to promote blood flow, and therefore accelerate the healing process.

"It's scientific stuff,'' Kaman said. "I could sit here and talk to you about it, but you wouldn't know what I was talking about. I'm not calling you dumb it's just a mixture of Western and Eastern medicines and some people think it works, some people don't.

"I find it works pretty good,'' Kaman said.

Stackpole, the Boston University whiz kid hired before last season, is not made available to the media.

The idea is the suction draws fluid out of the area, Kaman explained, allowing tissues to heal more quickly.

If our medical staff keeps Our players healthy again this season, they deserve the Team MVP vote!

We better hold onto Stackpole. I have a feeling teams are going to try and hire him away.

We're talking about "cupping" and "holding onto Stackpole". Sounds hot.

I think this is the same technique a physical therapist here in the Couve from Rebound has been using for years.

I hope they don't mean "new" as in it's a recently invented treatment..

It's an ancient Chinese method that has never been proven to have any medical benefits.

Eastern mysticism for the lol.

As long as they aren't doing acupuncture lol. Im surprised more teams dont use hyperbaric chambers. Double the oxygen pressure increases healing as well

Actually those systems are very good. You skepticism is silly. Sometimes the best healing is through environment, release of pressure and nutrition.

The product we manufacture would fall into your category of snake oil, but our product has been in medical journals reviewed by peers (other doctors).

I suppose you think chiropractic treatment is bullshit too?

Oh, and I don't care if the medical staff uses leeches, facsimile dolls and chicken feathers, if the players stay healthy, more power to 'em!

Its amazing how much western medical institutions, who rely on medications largely developed by chemical companies, are quick to say "no proof that it works"... While there also isn't proof that it doesn't work either. In fact most people who claim it doesn't work have never tried it.

They say it doesn't work because you can't patent the technology. Pharma companies will discredit anything that dips into their bottom line. Don't get me started with some of this bullshit pharma company banter!

Ding ding ding!

My uncle does this cupping business, he swears by it and he's a no bullshit dude.

Anyone else read the thread title and think they'd invented a new jock strap? I've had the Chinese bowl treatment before and other than looking like you have welts on your back for a few days, I did feel great!

We should clone our players. Then when one of them gets hurt we can just switch out their clone and play them. Also with clones you have lots of spare parts.

The currently available clones can keep the grass short as well. Unfortunately, Basketball is not played on grass fields.

"Ready for your cupping therapy?"

"Wait...isn't that a penis pump?"

"And your point is?"

Wookee, you never fail to crack me up (even on O----Live years ago)! Very astute comment. When I finally get my youngest son out to college next year I will make a trip to the Rose City and buy you dinner and all the Coors Light you can drink... errrrr... I will open a new interest bearing savings acct. on Monday.

Repped

Think O"Jays:

Money, money, money, money, money
Some people got to have it
Some people really need it
Listen to me y'all, do things
Do things, do bad things with it
You wanna do things, do things
Do things, good things with it
Talk about cash money, money
Talk about cash money
Dollar bills, yall

I actually went to a chiropractor for a while. Though I dont buy the whole shakra the energies are connected bullsh!t I cant deny its the only thing that has made my neck feel better until my insurance stopped covering it. But really all he did was crack my neck and back, which feel great.

What I dont buy is their leg strength test, its obviously a trick I just couldn't figure it out.

I do agree with that. I believe your body is like a freeway of information and freeways. Things get blocked and shit starts fúcking up. Releasing the blockages and creating a good environment just allows your body to heal itself.

This is completely compatible in western medicine.

Acupuncture was the only thing that relieved my back pain a few years ago. Haven't had any problems since. I'm a firm believer in it.

The science behind cupping seems legit to me. But you have to admit acupuncture is horse shit.

The leg strength test is bull shit dude would have me lay down then lift my leg while he held it down. He would put a finger on my spine and claim to align it, all the sudden my leg was stronger. I think ithad to do with the angle my leg was at but it was had to prove lay in down. Its just like any religion or practice, some of its good but when you start thinking it answers all of lifes questions you go off the deep end.

I've never actually heard a testimony of a cure until now, interesting. Anyone ive ever talking to it was just pain management and they were always in pain so I didnt see it working. Im always up for something that doesnt pump me full of over priced narcotics though. Maybe someday ill work up the balls to get some needles in the neck.

The needles don't even hurt. It feels more "itchy" than anything else. I've used acupuncture for decades now and it works well for me.

Does it mean if I have cancer i go to the acupuncturist and hope he cures me? Not at all. But I like many of the holistic remedies (chiropractic, acupuncture, herbs, yoga, diet and lsd) to act like my body (car) is getting its oil changed and tune up on a frequent basis.

I bought an electrical stimulator of Amazon for about the same price as one acupunture treatment. When my back starts flaring up, it is far better for me to use instead of taking a pill.

I'm definitely not a fan of needles and am squeamish, but the treatment was well worth it. It doesn't work for everyone, but its worth a shot if it eventually provides you with relief.

I use the cupping treatment with my hands on HCP's wife all the time.
