Blazers vs Celtics Game Thread....... 12/01/10

I think this was a desperate move to try to find SOMETHING off the bench.

I wonder if Matthews could score off the bench? Seems moving Batum back, or Rudy or Cunningham in the lineup would be better? Maybe even number 16 pick in the draft Babbitt could go there?

How many more losses until Nate is fired?

Considering the scared nature of this franchise, he could lose another 20 in a row and they'd still say he is our man.

ummmm ... honestly I think it would take a fifteen game losing streak to break the vise grip he's got on this job.

I really don't understand it.... it's not like he saved some poor girl from humiliation during the National Anthem.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I tend to agree with MM; I think the guys above him really think he is a great coach -- or at least Paul Allen does.

You do too understand

Nate = Famous basketball player in Seattle....Mr Sonic

Paul Allen, The Vulcans, Rich Cho and the hat guy are all Seattleites, and think Nate can do no wrong

Been a while since we were 2 games under .500.

Good bye, playoff hopes.

This season is less on Nate than any before imo. This bench is....words can't describe how bad it is. But you can't really argue he didn't get the most out of what he had the last two years.

Having a great coach helps but having a great GM is 100x more important. It's too bad right now it looks like the Blazers don't have a very good GM if the Jerryd Bayless trade is any indication. How bad does that trade look right now, seriously?

this season has the stench of Mike Schuler on it.

Aside from the Bayless trade this whole thing has KP's fingerprints all over it. This is his fucking baby.

Really? 95% of whats going on right now is Pritchards fault as far as GM's go. He knew about Roy, he knew about Oden, he knew these guys had knee injuries. It has never been a secret that Aldridge is soft. The only real thing that Cho has done in his 4 months with the organization is trade away Bayless who was asking for a trade because he fell to 3rd string in depth.

Our current GM is hardly at fault for the mess were in right now.

Our bench would look better with Matthews on it, but Nate moved him to a starting role

Nate thought Johnson beat Bayless out, so Bayless was traded

This season seems most about Nate to be honest

KP isn't the one who sat there all summer in his office playing with his computer knowing Oden/Przy were injured and did nothing about it. Cho's the one that banked on them coming back. He's the one that didn't improve the team at all this summer, not KP. Cho's the one who wouldn't trade Rudy away and has let his value decline even further. Cho hasn't done one thing to help this club so far.

Also, the starting 5 is still good. It's the bench that's been killing the Blazers right now. Having some real players on the bench right now and not relying on Armon/DC/Rudy would make a big difference. Instead, no, Cho sat there and did nothing.

Matthews has shown he's much better as a starter than as a reserve, averaging like 23pts/G. To not start him would be silly.

The first one is stupid; Matthews is kicking arse as a starter. The second one is plausible, so I won't make fun of you about it.

To you, every season is about Nate. Fuck, every second of every day is about Nate. I've never seen someone obsess so much about someone he hates so much.

Because teams were just nutting themselves to acquire Oden and Pryzbilla. Come on lets get back to reality here. There's no market for players that are rehabbing career threatening type knee injuries. Who do you suggest was out there for us to acquire for those two? You have to remember Cho got the job in mid-July. The FA market had already diminished and we put essentially all our eggs in the Matthews basket. Rudy's value on the trade market is about where it was when Cho got the job and I don't even think its debateable. When Cho got the job Rudy was pleading to be traded to Chicago or New York or else he wanted to go back to Europe. His value from then and now is the same, not much.

If you think the starting 5 is all good, then I really don't know what to tell ya. Aldridge is a KP guy through and through, a finesse big man thats soft and doesn't produce at all in crunch time. Roy is not the same and thats blatantly obvious, I'm not sure how its really arguable. Guess who had the reins of the team when he got that max contract? Currently, Pritchards best move is looking like the two 35 year old veterans we got last year. Yes, its that bad.

To blame Cho is absurd and scapegoating a situation that KP has his prints all over.

I guess you aren't watching these games where the Blazers' bench is letting the other team back in the game every single time. They're providing absolutely nothing after the starters build a lead. They're the biggest reason this team is struggling right now. It makes all the starters play more minutes and they're going to be gassed by the middle of the season.

The bench was an obvious problem going into the season, plain and simple. Cho did nothing for two months to fix problem and then made the problem worse right before the season started. Brilliant.

Again, they blew their whole MLE wad on Matthews and the rest of his so-called assets were pretty weak (Rudy, Bayless, the rookies, and a bunch of injured centers) which left him with what options exactly? If you want to point fingers look at KP adding 3 rooks to the squad.

sorry late to this thread, but I watched the game from archives. One defining moment for me;when I looked out there and saw Cunningham guarding KG and Marks guarding Shaq! And seeing Shaq and Big Baby out there, i kept worrying that one of them would fall on Wesley Matthews and put him out for the season; that would have been really depressing.

That stretch with Fernandez trying to guard Rondo was sure a killer, wasn't it? Anytime Camby and Matthews are not in on defense is gonna be bad.

No, move Roy to the bench.

Keep playing Aldridge for 45 minutes a game and he's going to be the next injured Blazer.

None of the bench issues will be solved by firing Nate. A ton of them could be solved by picking up a real backup PF however. Having Joel to set screens should help some as well, although he will bring no scoring himself. Every player on the second unit pretty much needs help to get an open shot. Right now they don't have that help. So you have what you currently have. Failure.

I have a blind, misguided, foolish hope that Patty Mills may be able to create offense for himself if not for anyone else.

That would be better then the nothing Portland is currently getting.

Props to Nate for trying Mills at the point to replace Armon "I play just like Nate did if Nate had sucked" Johnson. That's a good move that may very well improve over time.
