Blazers vs. Pacers Game Thread

Indiana was chipping away at our lead but we pulled away with it when Oden came in (he was +21). I had forgotten the effect he could have on the team despite 1. rarely touching the ball and 2. not scoring.

Looked pretty bad to me... he had to be carried off the court/zero weight on it.

Sucks.

Hopefully he heals up in a week or two and is ready for the final stretch to play some lock-down defense.
We'll see... but I don't think not putting any weight on it really indicates severity of an ankle sprain. I'm sure I'm not the only veteran of multiple ankle sprains here that can weigh in with personal experience. Often they'll be screamingly painful and limiting movement to near nothing for 5 minutes and then loosen up to a much more tolerable/normal level. I'm sure the Blazer staff has him on ice right now to limit swelling and they'll have a much better prognosis tomorrow.

why the fuck, in every god damned game thread, we have to argue about Sergio vs Bayless.

let it the fuck go, and root for the blazers as a team.

he also stated an 0-5 road trip was a real possibility

I still stand by my original prediction.. This road trip will be 4-1 and the loss wont be at Cleveland. If I am wrong you can choose my avatar pic for a week!

Our starters play aginst their starters, don't they? Greg was +21 in 12 minutes off the bench.

J. Bayless 17:06 0-2 0-0 0-0 -3 0 1rb 0 1to 1stl 0 1ba 1pf 0

I can't imagine anyone playing worse than that over a 17 minute stretch.

Go ahead, pick your favorite Bayless stat for March:

Not a decent showing in the bunch.

If you're looking for his last good game here's a hint (Feb. 11).

Over that same time span Sergio has MAYBE one decent game, so it's a wash.

Then you factor in that Sergio gives you absolutely nothing defensively, while Bayless does, and Bayless gets the minutes for now.

Great win. I never expected us to beat Indiana at their place, especially with this whupping. Good job Blazers! Print those tickets!

Because it is good for the karma of the Blazers.

Last year, no bayless vs. Sergio arguments - the Blazers do not have a winning record.
A year before, same no arguments - the Blazers have a losing record.
A year before that - same, same.
This year - already clinched a winning record.

Blazers fans, by law, should have this argument even next year when we trade Sergio to Barcelona for cash and future considerations! :devilwink:

I'm rooting for you to be right! Cavs are 30-1 at home, so they must be due for a loss especially after the tough game against Orlando. It is a tough venue... mean fans and ushers!! j/k... As long as we don't lose BOTH Batum and LMA we can win that game. It will be very tough if both are out, but LaMarcus looked okay talking to McBob at the end of the game... any updates on status from Blazer radio/tv?

Another dominant road win in a game we really needed to win! Now I certainly hope we can pull one out tomorrow, but even just a win in Milwaukee would make this a good trip. A win tomorrow would make it fantastic!

No doubt. I'd also like to point out that Steve Blake outplayed both TJ Ford and Jarrett Jack tonight.

Yeah, I too thought Blake played well. I'm always scared when he drives and throws up shots, but tonight....wow he made like almost all of them. Well done Blake!

All that means is you don't know what "defense" entails at this level, or any level of basketball.

You can't "factor in" fiction.

Basyless was RARELY within 10 feet of any PG tonight on defense, and I have dared posters for over a month now to present some sort of evidence or indication, however vague, that he can even play mediocre defense.

No takers.

Offer's still open.

Why would anyone with sense argue with you? It's like arguing with a brick wall.

Sure, no problem. Look at 82games.com and look at win percentage and net point difference when each one of them plays PG.

For Sergio it is 40% wins, +0.8pts diff per-48
For Bayless it is 44% wins, +5pts diff per-48

Next question?

Damn you and your advanced statistics. Maris doesn't need your silly facts, he's got his assertions and beliefs.

What if his assertions and beliefs were actually more advanced than any stats or observations? Wouldn't we all feel silly?

Solid win.

However, I think dealing with LeBron et al with an injured Batum is going to make for a tough outing. I hope he (and LMA) are ok for tomorrow.

I don't want to create a battle, but am I the only one who thinks Sergio got a bad deal here? Granted, Blake had a terrific game - especially shutting down Ford. However, the drop-off from Blake to Bayless makes Blake look like an allstar. In addition to the bad TOs, Bayless had NO Points and NO Assists. :tsktsk:

Maybe, it would be better to give Bayless more of a SG role, which would take some pressure off of him, since he would not have to run a complicated NBA offense. I think Bayless is just not ready to be an NBA PG yet and I think Sergio deserves another chance.

I was very impressed with Oden's play - no mistakes, good defense, and timely jam after a nice feed from Blake.

Sure. Make it so. I would love to see Sergio tear the league apart as a Blazer. Unfortunately, I do not think it will happen.

For the record - 82Games shows that we win 60% with a +5.9 net pt. advantage per-48 when Blake is playing point. It is just clear that Blake is our best point, and it is a shame that Sergio, in his 3rd year lags behind Bayless who got an awful lot of minutes in garbage time...

Again, going by advanced stats - the Blazers are more successful when JB plays PG (44% wins) than SG (33%) - but I think they calculate the position by who you guard - because JB plays SG a lot next to Roy - he just guard the opposing team's PG.

No such thing as a "bad" win....but with LMA and Batum both getting hurt, this comes close! Head injuries always make me nervous.

Haha then you can do the choosing.

That's pretty much how it has turned out with Outlaw, whom I was ridiculed for supporting as an essential part of our core since the day Bob Whitsitt drafted him, but this situation is quite different as Sergio edges Bayless in nearly every statistical category in existence and blows him away where it counts for a PG, directing the team, choreographing the plays and assisting on them. In great magnitude.

That's my preference for entertainment. Fast, wizard-like passes and flying windmill dunks. Blake and Bayless are never going to be able to bring that style I like, the game I want to find time to watch twice maybe. For all their plusses they don't have the magic and it can't be learned, you either got it or you don't, and Sergio does. He enables the players to play their "liveliest game", they attack on offense, they get into a groove.

They look like they're really enjoying themselves.

I think KP has a similar taste for the game, and that's why Sergio and Rudy are here.
