KP is not coming back. Give me a break. The guy was the worst GM ever!!!! We have the worst and most effed up front office in pro sports if we bring him back. Were lucky he didn't pull off his big free agent deals or we would be even more effed! Mr Turkey.

lol I was just gonna ask if we could bring Mixum back for his thoughts on this. Then I read other comments and thought better of it.

oh Hai

KP was great for us. Would welcome him back with open arms! Name me a better candidate..........

Blazers President Larry Miller tells me that Kevin Pritchard, Tom Penn & other recent former executives not being considered for GM job.

good, that era is done with and frankly KP did not impress me, especially in getting guys we needed to fill holes and such, he was too "attached" to guys he drafted IMO

Can we please put the apostrophe in the right place?

It's the '06 draft. Not the 06' draft.

Six footers are too short to be drafted most of the time.

Thank you. :)

If he knew that he could possibly be back as GM I wonder if he would have selected Luke Freaking Babbitt.

Sure, why not? He did select Rudy "fuck my life" Fernandez, Sergio "oh god my eyes" Rodriguez, Peteri "who?" Koponen, Victor "full of potential" Claver, and Joel "I'm not coming" Freeland.

No KP, No Petrie, No Whitsitt, No Patterson, No Nash, No Bucky

May as well add Adelman to the list, at least in spirit. Plus, Rick's never been a GM, and probably doesn't want to be a Yes Man in the twilight of his career.

I have never read or heard such a thing. Please enlighten me to this comment.
Jim Rome show among several interviews just after the draft. I'm sure you and others can also recall the contentious relationship between Patterson and the O's douchebag tagteam. Not surprising the paper of record heaped praise/fawned all over the fresh new quotable guy rather then the incumbent with the funny eyebrows who mocked them, though both were saying largely the same things.

As Min pointed out, it is standard fare for management types throughout sports to spread the credit around. I've heard many Blazer GMs and Presidents including Larry Miller say that there are a lot of voices that weigh in on their biggest decisions. As such we're a bit removed from knowing who really deserves the credit/blame for a lot of moves. My best guess at reading the tea leaves of that draft is that KP and the scouting department decided on their main targets and trumpeted their belief in their substantial worth internally. We heard that many in management worked the phones tirelessly to gather intel on how the draft might go and what specific teams wanted be it a player, picks, cap relief, or straight ca$h homie. But I recall KP saying that on draft day it was Patterson who executed their plan playing one team against another in a series of phone calls... he called observing SP's wheeling and dealing "masterful" & "awesome"

Management generally keeps us fans at outside of the know as to their inner workings, but in this case it seems their was plenty of credit to be spread around. Pritchard and Co. for developing the plan and Patterson for executing it.

And thank you PA for making this potential 15 page thread a 3 page thread.

That was one hell of a juicy rumor Canzano was throwing fire on . . . imagine how long we could have run with this all based on some no credit source and Canzano once again running with nothing. Maybe it was KP's new agent who leaked it to Canzano (who has been KP's agent bitch before)

The people I'm done with are Paul Allen, Bert Kolde and Larry Miller. I hope when we have a new owner they consider Pritchard.

It's clear the person who will get the job will be a John Nash type: someone who will happily take all the blame while kicking the credit upstairs because they're just happy to have a GM job.

Makes perfect sense. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe John Nash is the only Blazers GM to serve out the full term of his contract under Paul Allen.

Geoff Petrie - resigned after Rick Adelman was fired as coach
Bob Whitsitt - resigned after 2003 season due to pressure from media, fans and owner - Paul said he wanted Bob to focus on the Seahawks
John Nash - served full term of contract, contract not renewed
Steve Patterson - resigned in early March when it became apparent his contract as Blazers GM would not be renewed
Kevin Pritchard - fired
Rich Cho - fired after 10 months

So, it would appear being a yes man is good for job security when working for Paul Allen. Ironically, Nash was probably the least competent of all those GMs, but was the only one who didn't resign or get fired before is contract was up.

Yes sir, Mr. Allen.

I agree Mr. Allen.

You are SO right, Mr. Allen.

How very astute of you Mr. Allen.

Brilliant observation Mr. Allen.

There, I think I'm qualified for the job.

John Nash was famously credited with over ruling Assistant GM Mark Warkentien & his scouting department's recommendation of Al Jefferson to draft Telfair. The next year he publicly drooled all over himself after watching Webster shoot jumpers over guys 4" shorter in a single workout. Chris Paul was being called the best PG prospect since Kidd but that would bring into question Nash's initial selection.... I know I wasn't surprised when he sadly traded down to choose Martell & Jack instead.

I've heard GM after GM say that PA has supported their decisions but that he wants in on the process and of course has to sign off on things at the end. I recall Allen saying in the KP years that there was only one thing that was brought to him that he didn't go for. I don't see much that supports the stuff on the board that Paul is micromanaging the day to day decisions/expecting his GMs to be lapdogs and that certainly was true during JN's day. Dude made his own bed and (I believe) has been unemployed since because of his longtime record.

In other words, you can find no link to back up your claims, so we're just supposed to take your word for it.

Um ... yeah.

Wow. Anyone just hear Kenny Vance on radio?

He said the Pacers were interested in getting KP, and their owner called PA for info regarding Pritch, and PA "lambasted KP," making the Pacers look elsewhere.

WTF happened?
