Imagine Porter shooting 3s instead of Aminu bricks...He was the absolute perfect piece for this team. He is one of the best corner 3pt shooters in the league.
Encouraging to hear that we were after him.
I know it doesn't seem like it, but Harkless is a far worse shooter than Aminu. Aminu actually shot above 45% from the the corner last season. He reverted back to the low 30s this season. Porter has consistently been around 45% all throughout his career on high volume.Imagine Porter shooting 3s instead of Aminu bricks...
Yes, Aminu 3s in the Playoffs = 29%, Harkless 3s in the Playoffs 25%, i'll never forget when Harkless shot a wide wide open 3 against the Warriors and didn't even hit the rim... they both suckI know it doesn't seem like it, but Harkless is a far worse shooter than Aminu. The knock on Porter is his massive contract. We got Hood for a fraction of the cost and pretty decent production. But I agree. Neil shoulda staggered these 2016 contracts to allow for some flexibility. On one hand, it's great that we tried.
On the other hand....look what Porter was traded for: Jabari Parker (expiring), Bobby Portis (OK Player but RFA).
He was basically traded for cap relief. If Neil had some foresight and signed even some of the players in 2016 to 3 year deals instead of 4 year deals maybe we would have Otto Porter on this team now...

I don't know why you know this random fact but lol.

That said, I wonder if we can get a Porter-esque player this summer.

I think the most likely scenario is that Washington was stringing us along as a secondary option in case Chicago found a better return for Parker.I question how "close" the Blazers really were. It might be that Chicago came in at the last minute with their offer. But if they were dangling that contract at the beginning, and the reports were the Bulls were shopping Parker hard, I can't see how Portland could have competed with that Chicago offer unless they were making Zach available and I don't believe Olshey would do that.
my guess would be it was Mo + Meyers + 2019 first. Unless the Bulls didn't offer Portis till the end, Portland's offer was pretty weak in comparison

Or the more likely scenario is that both Chicago and Washington are stupid (they are). Reports out of Chicago were that they didn't want to take on long term money in a Parker trade. Who would've thought the Bulls would even be interested in Porter? That trade still doesn't make sense to me.I think the most likely scenario is that Washington was stringing us along as a secondary option in case Chicago found a better return for Parker.
I'd take him, it's a one year rental anyway, if he plays well, good for us, if not, we can trade him for a guy like GriffinAnyone still on board with trying to get Porter? He's ridiculously overpaid, but that might be why Chicago might unload him for unequivalent talent. Bundle Ariza with...? Hood plus...? A re-signed Whiteside?
I haven't watched him recently, but not so long ago he was an ideal complementary forward - could defend both forward spots and score when needed. Just the kind of hole in the roster we have.
