Notice Bledsoe Waived

If you trade Didi, you have to sign someone new for the 14th spot, so that doesn't work.

it might if you trade him at the trade deadline and sign somebody on a 10-day that morphs into a pro-rated minimum deal. That would only add 300K or less if it's somebody with no NBA experience

if Portland wants to get out of the tax it probably won't be hard to do

Fischer said we're most likely done and this is the team. Tried hard to move Bledsoe and couldn't find any takers.
Bledsoe is a nice player. He will be a quality asset off the bench for someone. I wish he could have stayed on a min. deal.

My guess is that Ant or Nurk will have an unlikely incentive this year as part of their contract like All-Star or MVP that will get them just below the tax line after stretching Bledsoe. They'll still have to count that against the hard cap, but when their final numbers become official at the end of the season, it will be just below.

that sound plausible. I know Croin has a bad rep around here but he's supposed to be proficient at cap-mechanics

Appears we could have got John Collins, and as you mention Randle. I don't think the 7 would've been required for either. That might not be Cronin fault; our ownership may not want to risk paying luxury tax.
How could we have gotten Collins without the 7th pick? And would we want that defensive deficiency as a starter? I'm not sure...

Otto Porter and Bruce Brown both signed for the tax MLE; both guys with significant experience as starters. Not sure what TJ Warren signed for; if he is past the injuries thats an efficient 20ppg scorer. Jalen Smith was paid less than the tax MLE.
We aren't going to be signing any free agents for less than other teams. We are not a free agent destination.

Blazers also had bird rights on Ingles, so they could've retained him without any impact on the tax MLE; trade exceptions, or resigning Ant/Nurk. However it would've risked luxury tax.
I don't think Ingles at his age and coming off that injury is a needle mover...

So there were many opportunities to acquire a starting level talent that the Blazers lack and were left without now that the draft and free agency are over. I've seen one consistent theme in the moves of the last 5 months, and that is being conservative with payroll and avoiding the risk of luxury tax. Too bad the Blazers have such a frugal owner putting the bottom line ahead of contending.
Eh, whatever. The team will be sold anyway. They aren't going to spend huge unless it's a sure thing.

This off-season is going great.

Not an epic fail at all so far.

Managed to add a guard and resign a marginal backup PF/C. Woohoo!

Who needs forwards and players taller than 6’6/6’7?

You should love the TWolves...there's your twin tower team.

I don’t want twin towers…
I want a bunch of forwards.
You know, like Toronto (whom I do find interesting).
Except they don’t have a single player as good as Dame.
Oh, and they won a championship kinda recently.
So what’s your point?

That height isn't winning you a championship...that talent is and two way play is. You've harped about size...the Jazz have had size, the Nuggets have size but no championship....if you like tall teams the Wolves will be playing twin tower ball....we won't. Choices..and uh....the current champs have one player over 6'9

They will be better than us next year with a rising superstar in Edwards.......

And they love spamming this forum with Oden dong pics.
I don't think they will be...I think they'll be a slow half court team. Couple decades out of the playoffs and the Wolves fans have nothing better to do than share dick pics..

If she's cheap there is no reason to keep it. Once a good enough offer comes in she'll sell.

And if she's willing to spend for a winner I'm good with it.

Donald Sterling was cheap and an owner for over 33 years, probably would've been longer if he had the choice.

An owner being cheap doesn't mean they will sell.

The NBA isn't going to let that happen again.

And when Sterling was cheap he wasn't handing out contracts like Portland just did.

Is she ever going to get more than what Knight offered?

Yes, the Knight offer was a bit of a lowball offer.

I get that you have to pay over market value as it's an investment and the team value will continue to grow.

Could Powell have been worth more a week later at the deadline? Possibly. Could he have been worth at the least what LaVert and others were at the deadline when traded for an actual first round pick? Possibly. If we had then flipped such first round pick from a Norm trade for Grant could the Blazers have drafted Duren? Perhaps. If Cronin never found a deadline deal for Powell could he have been worth much more this summer? Possibly.

Cronin stated he worked to get players to their preferred destinations. He also said he felt pressured to do the Clippers trade to duck the tax and negotiate a CJ deal, a clear sign of an inexperienced negotiator. You don't know for certain the league's value of Norman Powell was low and would remain so any more than others suspect it was higher. GM's don't always make moves for the best long term value or the best long term maximum return. We know Norm was traded for a player on a rookie contract in Gary Trent Jr. A GM job is to maximize the value of players they send out and acquire players for the least assets or smallest team friendly contract.

Cronin failed to get any meaningful asset for Norm or Roco. The Blazers are a long way from having contending talent; they can't give up multiple starting level players for meaningless returns and build a winning team. It's better to hold an asset for a possible valuable return at a later date, then to dump it immediately for irrelevancy.
It was obviously about saving Jody money. It was the tax. Period.

Nobody said height wins championships, but it's certainly much more difficult to win championships without at least league-average size at most positions.

The importance of at least league-average size (and length) at most positions? Yes, they certainly did.
They won championships with one guy over 6'9 and Gary Payton guarding 5 positions...Draymond undersized...but it's all good if you think that's what wins championships....I think two way players and speed beats bigger slower teams most of the time. It's all good...Nurk, Winslow, Hart and Ant beat the Warriors without Dame before they got shut down last season...a fast break team can run a tall team out of the gym. As I said...Jazz and Nuggets haven't won a championship with all their size at all.....I'd happily put Hart and Payton against most SFs in the league and like my chances. Chauncey's Pistons championship runs featured the smallest center in the league in Ben Wallace...but the best team defense in the league...that's what I see as a winning formula...Lakers were big ...fell flat ....Clippers are shorter like us and actually had a better team than the Lakers. Nets had KD, Aldridge, Milsap and Griffin and couldn't win ....I thought last season the Lakers and Nets were locks for the finals...I was wrong.

Gary Payton and Draymond were their best defenders and both undersized. ...somehow their mismatched heights didn't make them less effective.
