I didn't know there were any left

Redbox pretty much wiped them out here...and the library started buying all the new movies which you could put on hold and watch for free..

Watched and old movie last night at a friends house in Ojia. He has a collection of nearly a thousand old ones from the 30s, 40s and 50s.

This one was about the Brits battling the Nazis in pre WWII Africa. George Sanders is the main man but Dorthy Dandridge was in it.
Dang! They had hers decked out as savage princess to marvel at. I would love to watch the reaction by the correct crowd to this flick!:cool2:

NEtflix was the beginning of the end for movie rental stores.
Hollywood video
Blockbuster
Movies only

The few stores left have one foot in the grave.

Combine that with dvr’s and on demand and prime and all the other options to find and watch movies and I’m really surprised any are left at all.

Mary Provost did not look her best
The day the cops bust into her lonely nest
In the cheap hotel up
On Hollywood West July 29
She'd been lyin' there
For two or three weeks
The neighbors said
They never heard a squeak
For hungry eyes that could not speak
Said even little doggie's have got to eat

[Chorus]
She was a winner
The became the doggie's dinner
She never meant that much to me
(But now I see) Oh poor Mary

Mary Provost was a movie queen
Mysterious angel of the silent screen
And run like the wind
The nation's young men steam
When Mary crossed the silent screen
Oh she came out west from New York
But when the talkies came
Mary just couldn't cope
Her public said Mary take a walk
All the way back to New York

[Chorus]

Those twin balms didn't help her sleep
As her nights grew long
And her days grew bleak
It's all downhill
Once you've passed your peak
Mary got ready for that last big sleep
The cops came in
And they looked around
Throwing up everywhere over
What they found
The handiwork of Mary's little dachshund
That hungry little dachshund

I was just in Ojai last week, love that place.

The "correct crowd" has the great fortune of being flooded with pictures of all the Kardashian/Jenner sisters decked out like that multiple times a day. Yay.

Naw! Those Kardashian chicks totally lack the class of Dorthy in this flick. Then you need to see the scene where the indigenous guy was asking the boss brit for Dorthy for his wife. After much banter the big boss grants the request. The dance begins. Geez it was well done!

Blockbuster was a "meteor" business. VCR tapes went to the wayside quite like 8 tracks.
The poor dudes that worked there are probably working at a movie chain like AMC, Regal or Lowes.

I’m just waiting for tv to die out eventually and streaming services take over all together.

We’d have been drooling as heavily as you. Men are dogs and all the political persuasion in the world will never change that. And I am guilty as anyone who wants to charge me.,,.

Yeah its too bad. I really enjoyed the experience of going to the movie store growing up.

@MarAzul how are your friends doing? My friend that I was visiting went to work yesterday and then her neighborhood got an evacuation order. All she had was her car and the clothes on her back. Now her parents and brother's family have been ordered to evacuate this morning. She just got word her place is still standing, she's up by Thomas Aquinas College, but there's no air support. I'm praying for a miracle, so sad.

Funny. I just had a dream thay my uncle gave me a blockbuster gift card for christmas and i thought about this thread. I need to spend less time on here.

Yeah, it is sort of, little pockets of disaster in the area.
When the Santa Ana winds came up, it was too noisy in the marina for comfort. so my friend came for Ojai and we went back to Ojai,
watching another old flix, when the lights went out. We got the word it was a fire, but miles away, no biggy. So sacked out for the night.
Next morning, yesterday, still no power, but managed to make some coffee. Several neighbors stopped by while we were having coffee to check on my old friend, they all know he lives alone now, as his wife passed about eight years back. Then the neighbor started tell us, they were leaving, time to for us to consider the option. My ears picked up and I took a hard look at the surroundings as best I could from a neighborhood full of Live oaks and Palm trees. Then I saw smoke billows real close, less than 1000 yards away. Then I notice the orange flicker under one.

Al! It's time to pack a bag! We headed out before the roads get jammed. We were heading to his grand kids place in Santa Maria, when he turn around and head back. Shit! What do I do now with Al?? Then I spotted fire to South, then to the East, then on the mountain sides to the North.

Al!, your valley is surrounded, that other road out to the North maybe run over anytime now!

We turned around again. Then he thought, well we don't have to go to Santa Maria, how about your boat?
I said, lets go! But it will be noisy as hell there with 40 50 mile wind ripping through the rigging in the Marina, but we can do it.

Spent most of the day in the boat, dancing around on it's tethers, listening to poorly tuned string instruments play the Santa Ana.
Checking the news on the internet and listing to the radio for a clue as to what happened to Ojai.
About 4:00 pm it sounded pretty good, so he had to go check to see if he still had a house or even a village. So off we went.
Got stopped at several places but he knows the country so he always had another route. Most of the hill sides and what ever was on them is burned up now, from Ventura to Ojai at least, but Ojai is still there with only a few builds burned. Al's house is ok, but no power.

I got back to the boat about 9:00 this morning, fires are still burning here and there but no wind and that leaves the smoke in a thick blanket. But I think they are through the worst of it.

Damn!
The winds up again, the fire up and running again.
I am with the boat but they are recommending leaving Ojai again. Al says he is going to huncker down and wait for until the last minute.

The Sandy Blockbuster getting the hook is a hoax.

The blockbuster building in my neighborhood is now "Moe's"- Southwestern Food

Our old blockbuster was big enough to become a dentist office, pizza hut, and verizon.
