Yes, I know it would never happen, because it's the epitome of "mortgaging our future", but what would you think of a 3-way deal that exchanged Oden/Aldridge/Joel/Miller/? for Bosh/Amare? Trade-Checker approved.

Leaves us with:
Blake/Bayless/Mills
Roy/Rudy
Batum/Webster
Bosh/Howard/Cunningham
Amare/Pendergraph

Obviously Bosh/Amare would both be free agents this summer, but we would also be title contenders instantly if Bosh/Amare were able to play together. Would it be worth the gamble?

First rule for a trade: Ask yourself if the other team would ever bring this to the table.

Both teams are expecting to lose those players to free agency this summer.

Oden, while injured, still has superstar potential. I think Toronto would consider it.

Aldridge is younger than Amare, signed for less than Amare will expect, and would flourish in their system. I think Phoenix would consider it.

Care to answer the question posed instead of criticize the delivery method?

I Agrew with PP for his reasons... I think they consider it on both teams

You do some selling and you could make Bosh and Amre long term here. Sign extensions before the trade. It can happen

First of all I didn't really criticize your 'delivery method', I said you should consider why trades get made.

As for the nuts and bolts of the trades: Miller in Phoenix? They've already got an older pretty good point guard, and Aldridge is due to be making a lot of money and has been pretty clearly underperforming, which means he's on the cusp of being severely overpaid. As for Toronto, Oden nor Joel, nor Travis are healthy and you think that's the best trade package out there being offered up for Bosh? -- especially when a Bynum for Bosh swap has already been discussed.

With this year's impending free agency, both of those teams would swap those guys for straight expirings and look to be players in this summer's bumper crop of free agency before they'd swap their all-stars for a boat load of injured guys or guys who are not living up to their potential.

I'd orefer to keep Miller, thinking how much better he would be with those two up front than Blake.

Joel, Aldridge to PHX

Oden, Blake, Outlaw to Toronto.

Amare, Bosh, Jarron Collins to Portland.

Why would they trade them for expirings? They already are expirings. If they leave, they're each sitting on about 6 million in cap space. Not enough to be players in free agency by any means. Aldridge could duplicate what Amare does, while younger, on healthier knees, and for cheaper than Amare is expecting. On top of that, they save almost 4 million this season in the deal, which is 8 million in LT payments, more than enough to cover Joel's deal next season(in my revised deal). I don't believe LA offered Bynum for Bosh. I think Toronto would jump at that right now. And I am guessing they would take Oden as well. Injured or not, the combo of him and Bargs has the potential to be better than Bosh and Bargs. If he walks, you go tnothing, and nobody really out there to sign and replace him. I can see both teams making those deals.

Maybe an expiring and a draft pick or something, or a big expiring and one cheap young player. The point is, they wouldn't sacrifice cap space to take on guaranteed salary that is either severely injured or severely underperforming their contract (Aldridge)

But there cap space is little more than the MLE. If Oden was a free agent this offseason, and Toronto allowed Bosh to leave, even recovering from an injury, I bet they would sign him. Who with their 6 million in cap space woudl Phoenix get that is better than Aldridge? I don't see what 6 million in cap space is doing for eithe rteam over the guys they get back.

OK--I like your version better. Especially since it doesn't include the admittedly redundant Miller to Phoenix concept.

With this year's draft (which is loaded with power forwards) I think they'd be better served to try and find their future big man there, than to try and shoe-horn less than ideal players onto their roster.

This doesn't even bring up the fact that there's zero chance these teams would be able to sell the trades to their fans (especially the Bosh for Oden and Przy swap).

How is Aldridge less than ideal for Phoenix? I'd say he is their ideal PF. I think he and Lopez would make a good frontcourt for them.

As for Toronto selling the trade, seems easy to me. Bosh told us he was leaving. Knowing he was leaving, we needed to get something for him. We could have let him walk for nothing, instead we got one of the best young C prospects in the league. They've been sold Mcgrady and Vince both leaving for nothing. They're preparing for Bosh's departure. Oden would ease that transisition a lot mroe than them saying we're going to try to be players in free agency. You saw how good we did with that last year.

Sure you did. The basic question is--would you trade Aldridge/Oden/parts for Amare/Bosh, knowing that we could lose them in free agency. The trade prop was nothing more than my way of demonstrating that it's conceivable.

So--what of it. If it were available, would you take the gamble, or would you keep the guys we have currently?

LMA has proven himself to be a player probably worthy of an 8 million/year contract but pretty far South of the 12+ million per year he's set to make. Taking him on would be a huge gamble for Phoenix financially.

Amare makes 16M this year. The statistical difference between he and Aldridge is not much. I'm sure they'd be about dead even if their numbers were pace-adjusted. But Aldridge is far overpaid?

Aldridge's contract will never pay him within a million dollars of what Amare is making this season. And Amare is expecting a raise on top of that. I don't think Aldridge has a great contract. I wish it was a little lower. But I don't think it would murder Phoenix financially.

Amare' is on his way out the door, which means in real dollars the Suns are on the hook for another half season, taking on LMA would be a 65 million+ salary commitment, and with the lockout looming and considerable restructuring of player contracts on the horizon, LMA could end up being one of the most overpaid players in the league in 2 years.

I'm not sure if we want to go after both Bosch and Stoudemire, weren't we already having problems with too many scorers? I'd prefer to just focus on Bosch. I think Toronto would be interested in a Aldridge for Bosch trade if they think they are going to lose him in free agency. They aren't interested in cap space, what free agent besides Hedo Turkolu's wife would be interested in going to Toronto? They need a guy who is tied up on a long term contract, like Aldridge.

Trades that work on tradechecker are Aldridge and Miller for Bosch; or Aldridge, Blake and Outlaw for Bosch. Another one that works would be Aldridge, Miller, Outlaw and Mills for Bosch and Jarrett Jack, who actually seems to be turning the corner as far as being a good PG.

Now I'm thinking of one problem with my idea; if Bosch didn't want to re-sign in Toronto, is it likely he would pick Portland over Miami, New York and New Jersey? Maybe, if he thought it gave him the best chance for winning...

Hell-frickin-ya!

I was one of the first people on the "draft LMA" bandwagon.....but he has been a disappointment. Bosh is just flat better.

Amare? I am not a huge fan....but a Clydesdale with 4 sound legs has more value than a purebred Arabian with 3 legs. Bye-bye Oden.

we would never give up LMA for bosh unless bosh was locked up beyond this season, and he's not signing an extension now because the max he can get goes way up this summer (as a 7 year vet).

bosh for LMA can ONLY happen via sign/trade this summer, which would only happen if bosh makes it known that he wants to come here specifically. bosh is not a realistic possibility.

i doubt that will be much of a factor compared to market size, and you can throw chicago in there for good measure. he can come here and try to win in a small market with roy, or he can go to a much bigger market with all the perks and try to win in chicago with rose, in miami with wade, or even potentially in NY with lebron. don't see us competing.

This was why I suggested getting Amare as well. Market size aside, Roy-Bosh-Amare would be as good a big 3 as any in the NBA. What "perks" would they get from a big market that would offset the media hype of being part of a huge blockbuster trade that creates potentially the best frontcourt tandem since Duncan-Robinson?

you missed the part where we're not trading valuable pieces for players who will be FAs. might as well suggest trading roy for lebron.

You missed the part where that was the whole point of the thread in the first place--would you be willing to take the gamble of trading potential cornerstones for established all-star players with impending free-agency. If you're not, than discussing anything else in this thread is kind of pointless.

And Roy for Lebron is a completely different discussion because the Cavs are currently a title contender and think they have a shot at keeping him. That is not the case with Bosh and Amare.

i didn't miss anything, i'm saying speculating about impossible hypotheticals is pointless.

Not speculating--inquiring about people's opinions. I like to know what other people think. I want to know if other people would be willing to make a gamble like that, or if they would play it conservative, as well as the reasons why they think that way. Whether or not it's likely is irrelevant to the question I asked.

BTW--if a thread is pointless, why would you choose to post in it? That sounds even more pointless to me.
