Buried in Marc Stein’s ESPN chat Thursday was an exchange about whether it’s ”time to break up the Nets and trade Carter or Kidd?” Stein agreed, but there’s an impediment: “It’s BEEN time. But the Nets’ owner loves those two.” Bruce Ratner has, in fact, been a Vince Carter and Jason Kidd fan for a while. The Nets’ stars have been regulars at Brooklyn events supporting his $4.2 billion Atlantic Yards project.

I figured as much

ratner, if you don't want to blow it up then you have to spend more and pay the luxury tax because those 2 cannot carry the team no more...jkidd is just satisfied getting his triple doubles and seems to have accepted he isn't going to get a ring and vc well, is vc.

Who is surprised by this?

Atlantic Yards > Winning.

Not surprised. I guess he needs some pub money and Jay Z isn't enough. Boy once he builds it, will he just dismantle and close the budget? So really the team on the court isn't Thorn's fault. Ratner has his handcuffs out......I can see Thorn having to really convince Rat if something is brewing for either of those 2.

He's a money-grubbing rat that cares about 1 thing: his wallet. If the team turned a profit and only won 30 games a year, he'd be happy.

Dear Mr Ratner

You are an asshole.
However on the plus side, Donald stirling is a huge fan

Yet he still wants us to buy tickets and merchandise.

In fact, he hired the slickest sports marketing guy he could find to keep us fans in line and pumping the money in.
