anyone got a collection going yet?

Just started a week ago. I figured I would buy only purchase my favorite movies and play the rest on DVD.

So far I got around 30 blu ray discs.

I can't see myself going over to BluRay. I own about 1000 regular DVD's and just couldn't imagine "RE-BUYING" them.

Hold on..whats with this "re- buying" horse shit? I'm not sure you getting a copy from netflix, the local library and your friends and burning your own copies really constitutes "buying" them in the first place.

I have a few, but I haven't bought any in over a year. In fact, I'm probably going to sell the few I have as I'm trying to get away from physical media altogether.

yeah, i went on and sold a bunch of my DVDs in bulk (50 for $120). Still got 200 + left :S.

I tell ya, it's hard starting from scratch with these movies, but films like Amelie, Gladiator and Blood Diamond were meant to be seen on blu ray.

I applaud you for that, but getting off your computer would be a start ;)

Wall Street (picture quality sucks)
Hangover (high re-watchability)
Baraka (best HD disc for demos)

I think that's it. I have netflix, I don't want to get a cluttery collection anymore. I'll rent on netflix and if I enjoy, i'll buy on blu-ray. Might get Up in the Air....

Is blu-ray really all that?

I'm a blu freak. I've got 100+

bluray.com is my 2nd most visited website.

it is easy to see the difference from dvd. Is it worth the cost, that is perhaps debatable.
amazon.co.uk

MUCH cheaper.

Hell, even amazon.com/ca/de

Also ebay/craiglist can get you deals, but co.uk is the best.

^^^ but are those legal Blu-ray discs? Sites like ebay are an easy way to move stolen merchandise

love blu-rays and they are much better quality than dvd, having said that the upconversion of a dvd on a blu-ray is pretty good as well.

the hangover, the dark knight and book of eli are all really good. that's all i have as i have another 350+ dvds but some do need to be replaced as i agree movies like gladiator should be seen on blu-ray.

If you know how to shop blu ray and don't mind buying used ones, they're very affordable. I order from Amazon.co.uk, Amazon marketplace, gohastings, etc..

Yup, none are bootleg. Atleast not the 30 i've bought so far.

hmm, gohastings, never heard of that, ima check that out now. thanks mamba!

also, when i've gone to the UK or Canada, a place called HMV has amazing deals like memento, trainspotting, and requiem for a dream, all for $25.

If you know where to look they should be pretty cheap (amazon.co.uk a prime example).

Amazon.UK deals with NTSC? I assumed the discs would be PAL.

Before purchasing from AMZ UK, google Blu Ray region coding. A lot of UK discs are Region free or Region A, B.

Love Bluray & it's much better than DVD. I've got probably close to 50 now. I don't rebuy any movies that I have on DVD. I just buy new ones, mainly movies the kids will watch over & over & over again. I started a kung-fu bluray collection, so I will be rebuying Hero & Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon someday.

I slowly but surely am replacing a lot of my DVD collection. At first I wasn't going to, but a lot of catalog titles can be had for cheap--especially if you like buying used.

Might as well add Drunken Master and the Legend of the Drunken Master too.

Never had them on DVD, but will be sure to add those to my collection on Bluray.

So far I only have:

Fist of Legend (my fave Jet Li movie)
Seven Swords (same director from Crouching Tiger)
OngBak2
Enter the Dragon
Kung-Fu Hustle (one of the coolest movies ever made)
Kung-Fu Panda...oh wait...that doesn't count but it looks AWESOME on Bluray.

Need to add:

Legend of the Drunken Master
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Hero
Every Bruce Lee movie
House of Flying Daggers (one of the most amazing scenic movies ever shot)
A bunch of Jet Li movies

Not really kung-fu, but if you're into asian fight-movies, I suggest Battle Royale.

Just picked up Saving Private Ryan and Pans Labyrinth. Awesome.

from time to time some of the studios will offer upgrades on them... you send in your dvd's and 5 bucks and get the bluray... it is more common for hd-dvd though... I buy those for cheap on ebay and then upgrade them to bluray when the sales happen.

I have a bunch of torrents on my computer w/vga connection to my tv...Comparing blu ray to DVD is basically comparing standard def to HD television.

Pans Labyrinth is gorgeous. One day I'll have to buy it.

Anybody see "The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo"? It's #1 on Amazon right now. Never heard of it.

Buy it.

It's a good movie, probably 8.25/10. Solid acting with a great script. The trilogy is really interesting.

Should receive mine by next week.
