"Bold" Predictions - 2016-17 NBA season edition

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

Leonard will be in the 3 Point Contest and won't get to the 5th rack of balls because of his slow release.

He won't have anyone flying at him so his release will be quicker.

That's not bold, that's predictable. lol

Mine:

CJ will regress this year ( I know, I hate typing it)

We will strike out in trying to package a deal for a superstar

We will again exceed expectations with our current rosters, winning 48 games and making it to the WFC where we are bounced by the Clips.
Clips go to the finals this year.

Man after reading this, I think I need as bit of my own scolding regarding being positive.

Did you boldly predict that the Warriors' plane goes down?

1. 2 of the Warriors stars go down and they don't make the playoffs.
2. NO makes a huge trade, not involving Dame or CJ.
3. Blazers finish first in the West.
3. Blazers win the Championship.

CJ and Harkless end of season PPG= 19.9

Derrick Rose gets traded again.

Portland wins (including playoffs)=69

Pat Connaughton NBA Finals MVP

Chicago will upset the Cavs in the ECF.

Blazers (4th seed) will beat OKC (5th seed) in the first round.

The Blazers will make a big trade to land Jahlil Okafor.

Ezeli gets injured.

Meyers gets traded.

Here are my Bold predictions

Legit:
Turner won't develop a 3 point shot like most speculate as a possibility, however his contribution will still be evident.

Harkless will be a top candidate for the most improved award.

Lillard will be an All-Star, CJ will not, but many will claim he should be.

Blazers will have the best record in the west at the All-Star break.

Plumlee will record a triple double at least twice - Points/Rebounds/Assists

Golden State will not make it to the WCF. OKC fans will laugh, Warriors fans will shun Durant.

And for fun, some even bolder predictions:

Nobody will post negative threads if/when Lillard has a shooting slump.

Somebody who refuses to attend forum events will decide to enter the Suite drawing, win, and promptly remember that they have a conflicting appointment with their gynecologist.

Hillary Clinton will win the presidency, Trump supporters will act like the world is going to end... 4 years later we will all wish it had.

Blazers win 61 games for the 3rd seed

Warriors 68, Clippers 64, Spurs are 4th with 58 wins because Kawaii can't do it alone and The Texas Turncoat isn't a leader.

Moe Harkless is the starting 3 position and will win MIP.

Allen Crabbe will finish 3rd in 6th man.

Terry Stotts WILL win Coach of the Year.

Neil Olshey WILL win Executive of the Year.

Damian will be on the All-star team and will finish 4th in MVP for the season voting.

CJ McCollum will be in the Skills Challenge and will win it.

Meyers Leonard will be in the 3 Point Contest and will win it.

Minnesota Timberwolves will win 52 games for the 7th seed this season and will take the Clippers to a game 7 in the first round but will lose.

Kris Dunn is Rookie of the Year.

Impressive.

Leonard will be in the 3 Point Contest and won't get to the 5th rack of balls because of his need to pump fake.

Portland trades for Okafor. Which causes some posters here to freak out because of his "lack of defense".
CJ plays less than 35 games this year.
Ezeli plays less than 20 games this year.
Portland misses the playoffs.
Lillard averages 28pgg but shoots sub 40% from the field.
Stotts is fired before the season is over

OUCH!

You had Blazers vs Clippers in the WCF. He is saying the only way this happens is if the Warriors team dies in a fiery plane crash.

AHH got it. :)

Green font?

I second that??? Or please go knock on an oak table or something?

Nobody will make any misogynist remarks for the first week.

Oh, you said bold, not impossible.

The Blazers will be the #2 seed. I honestly don't see why not. I have no faith in Clippers and Spurs will regress. So will OKC. Unless someone seriously thinks Dallas, Utah, Houston, New Orleans or Memphis will erupt, and I don't.

I already made my prediction in some other thread: we'll have a better record than the Spurs.

Olshey leaves at the end of the season to become GM of Miami or one of the NY or LA franchises. Canzano writes article about Blazers being a small market team who can't keep a big market GM, relates it to the Ducks and then blames everything on the Vulcans.

Updated thread title to make it easier to find at the end of the season.

Another prediction, 76ers will make the playoffs this year. Embiid will stay relatively healthy with only missing a few games.

Sixers are going to hold Embiid out of b2b games. So he'll at least miss those.
Believe he's also on a minute restriction.

While not mathematically impossible, those combined win totals are highly improbable and unprecedented. I guess that what makes your predictions so bold.

Never in the entire 70 year history of the NBA have 3 teams in the Western Conference won more than 60 games. The two closest times were:

2006-07:
DAL = 67 wins
PHO = 61 wins
SAS = 58 wins (NBA Champs)

1971-72:
LAL = 69 wins (NBA Champs)
MIL = 63 wins
CHI = 57 wins

Yes, prior to western expansion, MIL and CHI were in the Western Conference (as was DET, which is in the Eastern Time Zone).

In any case, that means there has also never been a time when the top 4 teams in the West all won at least 58 games. Again, the 2006-07 season comes the closest with HOU at 52 wins having the 4th best record behind DAL, PHO and SAS.

There are only so many wins to go around and the more the top 2 or 3 teams win, the fewer there are for the middle seeds. The only times you see the 7th and 8th seeds winning 50 games is when all the playoff teams are closely clustered between 50 and 60 wins. For example, in 2009-10 the 8 playoff teams were:

2009-10:
LAL = 57 wins
DAL = 55 wins
PHO = 54 wins
DEN = 53 wins
UTA = 53 wins
POR = 50 wins
SAS = 50 wins
OKC = 50 wins
