Brandon Roy.... Behind the scenes?

Never met Roy but a guy whose restaurant I frequented in bend told me Roy was his kids hero and when he met him after the game Roy wouldn't sign his shirt. I thought that was kind of messed up, granted his kid was a bit of a spoiled brat, but I know if I was payed as much as these guys and had kids looking up to me I'd be all about giving back.

I think Wes Matthews is a prime off court example, a real hero for kids to admire.

Agreed.
With that said...fuck Roy! He was an ass and his media-friendly personality was fake. Bringing in 'Dre made Roy show his true colors.

Wow!

I think both assesments are probably wrong.

Players make mistakes and they're not heroes. Expecting them to be paragons of virtue at all times and investing them with heroic qualities is a recipe for disappointment.

See this is bullshit. Some guy who knows somebody said BRoy was a jerk, so you post it.

I guess everybody has a right to their opinion, but let's at least get personal interaction with the guy before we start spouting off about him being an ass or him being the nicest guy this side of the pope.

The person who started this thread is known to toss shit out their just to get it stirred up. Don't know what the point of this thread is other than to kick dirt on B while he's down.

I can tell you the Roy was/is a quality human being, not just a player. I saw this guy take time out to sign autographs in the snow at 2AM in the middle of back to backs. Was always personable and polite to anybody he interacted with.

Trash threads like this are how rumors get started. Next thing you know that hack Golliver will read some of your horse-shit posts and say his "insiders" told him Brandon kicked over a little kids trike. It's forgotten on here, but these guys are regular people who just happened to be tall.

THANK YOU!

Right.

Until you get distracted by the dollar bills and vagina being tossed your way.

I'm talking about kids dude. I'm 27, I don't idolize sports figures but when I was in the 4th grade Michael Jordan was my hero. Kids look up to them and when they remember where they came from and give back it makes them hero's in my mind. More so then so.done who volunteers for the military to kill Arabs.

Another prime example of someone who give back is LeBron James. As much as I hate him on the court he is a very good person and does a lot for kids.

You just make this stuff up as you type, or do you research it?

A coworker said his son was at a basketball camp and LeBron bought every kid full gear to ball in, so I guess I take it on word of mouth, I know he does scholarships in clevland too.

Once again, you are going off word of mouth in the opposite direction.

I hear Sabonis's wife was a drunkard.

:MARIS61:

Well, to be fair, it is pretty well-publicized that Lebron does give a lot back, especially to the kids.

I'm sure he does.....(On a side note, I asked him to join me on Road Trippin' once and he blew me off big time, understandably)

What you're omitting (that means leaving out, HCP) is the fact you asked him that while you were naked, and with a raging 2 inch boner.

That was cool of him, and now I have a word of mouth of him being cool and being a jerk.

Off topic but drew brees is a piece of shit, we did a charity poker event and dealers were told not to talk to him unless spoken to, and he tipped $5 while people that just had money bought dealers drinks, tipped good, and gave them prizes like gas cards and shit

Roy was an amazing player and was better than Drexler at many things. Had he been healthy, he would have surpassed Drexler on the list of best Trailblazers.

Yes I said it.

Hahaha our team is 15-3 and you make this thread? Seriously dwell on some more negative bullshit

People say lots of stuff.

"I've seen how money changes some people. And I've seen how gullible I was at times and it makes me sick. I once wrote a piece on a recent Blazer, who talked about being such a family man. The next trip, as I was leaving the arena in Memphis, I saw him engaging with a woman who wasn't his wife. I wanted so badly to believe the good in these athletes, only to be let down time and time again."

Some guys try to pick up girls
and get called assholes
this never happened
to Brandon Royyaso

Once again, you are going off word of mouth in the opposite direction.

So pray tell what you mean by "do research" if you don't know someone personally than isn't other people's interactions with them about the best research one can do? What are "insider" stories but their opinion of someone, making it word of mouth to us 3rd parties?

It is tough to judge alot of these guys because they get those requests constantly. Some guys who look squeaky clean in the media might be jerks in real life whereas guys who are portrayed as selfish might be quite charitable. If this list is true Carmelo Anthony was the most charitable NBA player last year

I was battling if Roy is happy for us. I think he is. He loves our fan base and knows how this is good for us fans

Based on what exactly? I'm not saying he's bitter or that it's impossible that he feels like that, but there's scant evidence to suggest he gives his former employer and teammates much thought at all.

It's easy to look back and say, "this guy wasn't what he should have been." I believe what Charles Barkley said athletes as role models.
Roy was a great player when the Blazers needed him. That's enough for me.

As most everyone else, I absolutely loved him as a player. Off the court? I didn't really care for him. That's why he was never close to being my favorite player like Damian is now.

He is no angel either. I could care less but it's the truth.

This whole thread is just a repeat of 10 years ago, finding off-court reasons to hate Blazers.

I agree he's been absent, and the corollary question is why. When he seemed to accept amnesty like a good soldier, maybe he was quietly annoyed and wanted to continue on the team. Or maybe he's backing up Pritchard, who got fired for not negotiating hardball with him.
