Item #1: Parting gifts

Remember earlier this season when I wrote about Martell Webster asking for LeBron James' shoes last season, and how the coaching staff and his teammates rode him unmercifully for doing that during a game?

Well, the only player on the team who vehemently stuck up for Webster was Brandon Roy.

Happens all the time, Roy said. He said opponents ask him for his jersey or signed shoes nearly every game.

So on Saturday night, after Roy scored 31 points to lead the Blazers to a 95-93 win over Minnesota, he came out of the showers and immediately signed his Nike shoes. As he was getting dressed, a clubhouse attendant came over and asked for the shoes.

"They are right there,'' Roy pointed. "But hey, who are they for?''
The clubhouse attendant said he didn't know, only that the request came from the Minnesota locker room.

"Mark Madsen,'' another attendant said. "The shoes are for Mark Madsen.''

Roy looked up at me.

"See. Told you. Every game.''

I said it must not have been during the game - Madsen didn't play - but Roy said he was asked by a Timberwolves player for his shoes during the fourth quarter.

"And it wasn't the player I gave the shoes to, either,'' Roy said.

Love it!

I find this really odd..... reminds me of Ruben asking for Kobe's shoes after Kobe lit him up for something like 40 points. Maybe I'm old school this just doesn't seem right to me.

This is the best part of the article in my opinion:
Item #5: Memo to Blazers - Stop serving beans

Roy had a rude awakening during his usual packed postgame media session: Someone in the media let one go.

"Who farted!'' Roy exclaimed looking from side-to-side. "That's a no-no around here for whoever did that.''

I can tell you it wasn't me - I would gladly claim that distinction. The leading suspects: Brian Hendrickson from the Columbian, Ben Golliver from Blazersedge and Mike Acker of Blazers.com.

I let them all off the hook and blamed it on Freeman.

But really, Roy should blame the Blazers: They served the media beans on Saturday night.

Damn media guys

Maybe people like to build their collection and have a memorabilia room. Like the...shoot, can't think of name...(Prefontaine?) building at Nike where they have a ton of memorabilia. Or maybe a player, if they got lit up, will put it in their gym and use it as motivation to get better. Who knows.

Mark Madsen doesn't count. Get a real player to ask Roy for his shoes and I'll be impressed.

Heh. You've got a point.

It's kind of creepy anyway, to tell you the truth. I can see a 10-year-old fan asking for the shoes, but another player?? A little creepy.

Nope! Best part of the article is this:

Item #2: Bayless vs. Telfair: A budding rivalry?

As the rest of the media horde listened, people starting trying to guess which player asked, but was not given, Roy's shoes.

"...Sebastian (Telfair)?" came one of the guesses.

"(Bleep) Sebastian," a disgusted voice said nearby.

That voice was Blazers guard Jerryd Bayless, whose locker is next to Roy's.

There were a few "oohs" when he said it, and jokingly I turned to Bayless and said "Quote, unquote", playfully threatening to quote him.

"I don't care,'' Bayless said, cinching up his tie.

Later, I went back to Bayless and made sure I could quote him.

"As long as you don't use the cuss word,'' Bayless said.

Bad ass.

Mark Madsen's gravestone should have a video screen with this playing for eternity

iirc, reggie miller's house burnt to the ground a few years back and he lost a TON of this memorbilia stuff. i think it's fairly common and was wondering why every got so pissed at martell last year.
