Brandon hits the game winner as the horn sounds!!! : LA WAS WIDE OPEN!!

Blazers win 94-92 on that shot...

ROY BALL IS BORING!!! WOULD HAVE WON BY 14 W/OUT ROY!!! NO CHALUPA!!!

Blazers win 11th game in a row: Nate is a shit coach and should be fired!

Brandon says he wants to come off the bench when he returns. I'm getting excited over here guys. What great surprise news tonight.
Terrible news, in my opinion. Roy is rushing to get back on the court again, just like he did last year during the playoffs. Him coming back too early may have contributed to the knee problems he's had this year.

How could that have caused his current knee problems? I am not saying you are wrong, I just honestly have no idea why the two would be related. He didn't suffer an injury in the playoffs after coming back, so I'm not sure how him coming back earlier than you think he should have would cause him to have pain/discomfort in his knees now. It sounds like it is a chronic condition that has no relationship to Roy playing in the playoffs.

If you come back too early, you interrupt the healing process.

A. Last year Roy rushed back less than a week after surgery that involved removing a major chunk or perhaps all of his meniscus. That's quite a bit different situation than starting a comeback 3-4 weeks after a minor scoping that just cleaned out the joint.

B. There's no evidence at all that him coming back so quickly after surgery last season had anything to do with him having problems on the other knee this year. From what I read, he started the season with no problems and then had a flareup after a few weeks.

C. This year he waited until the medical staff cleared him before starting discussion about coming back.

D. Unlike last year's playoffs where he tried to immediately return to his old role, Roy's said that he's planning on working his way back by coming off the bench and expects his minutes will be kept down initially.

E. McMillan has said that Roy's talk about the timing of his return is premature until they see how his knees handle a couple of practices.

F. He's got to try a comeback at some point and whenever he does, some folks are bound to say it's too soon.

I pulled a "Trail Blazer" last month. Blew my ACL and Lateral Meniscus (With bone bruise) snowboarding. Now surgery tomorrow. I feel like "MRIse with us" is a great slogan. I also feel the players pain, this shit sucks!

Wow. Bumm-er. I tore my Labrum in my shoulder in two places playing basketball back when Batum had the same injury. It seemed kind of ... ironic. I sure wish I'd had his level of rehab, personal trainers, and physical therapy though. And been 20 years younger, LOL. Hope it all goes well for you.

has no one else noticed that Roy's going to have 5 games before the trade deadline, last one being against the L*kers? Maybe that's why he's coming back quickly?

You think they are going to showcase BRoy to trade him?

You think they are going to showcase BRoy to trade him?

No way. Is there another team that's really going to be hoodwinked into trading for him based on a 5 game stretch right now?

He still may be able to play at a high level, but not for 35-40 minutes/game for 82 games. I'd like to give him a chance to accept the challenge of being a contributor, but not "the man." I also think that if he's 80% - 90%, he should start eventually...Even if Brandon wanted major minutes right away I don't think Nate would allow it...Remember that 80% of the guy you see below is still a good thing.

Of course give him a chance. I'm just predicting that Roy will play 3-4 games, then rest a week. Then play a couple games, then rest it. This will go on and on. He will not be 80% of a superstar. He has no knees. We'd be talking about his retirement if he hadn't just signed a max contract. Why talk how many minutes he "wants"? Do we care how many Mills or Camby or anyone else wants? If fans still consider him a prima donna, he will too. Forget about thinking that way. He'll exceed my expectations if he's another Rudy.

I'm saying that I personally think it's a much higher probability than some of the other stuff in this thread.

There were reports of multiple teams asking about trading for Brandon when he was first injured. It makes sense that if he can show any ability to play anywhere near a serviceable level, that teams would ask if he was still available. And that's almost the definition of "showcasing"

no way a team trades for his contract w/ his lack of meniscus...

you dont pay that for "serviceable level." brandon is untradeable.

Totally. I mean, Roy has never come back as soon as possible (or before possible) from surgery. Clearly he is ... um ... what is the point of your post?

It's possible to trade a player but continue to pay for most of his contract.

Why they do it: We'd be thinking we're getting more pay reduction than the service he provides.

The other team would be thinking they are getting more service than the pay they take on. Also, season tickets sold because of his name might factor into their thinking, even if he winds up not playing.

Their doctor might give him a higher probability of success than ours.

This is honestly the worst case scenario.

it would be, if that happens the rest of this yr I would think that if there was any "amnesty clause" in the new CBA mgmt would use. This team can't plan for much in the future if we are stuck with a sub par and hobbled Roy for 4 years after this.

I think Roy gives it the old college try this season. If he can play relatively pain free, he keeps playing. If not, he's Jonathan Bender.

A very expensive and former 3-time All Star version of Jonathon Bender. I get what you are saying though, a guy with a career ending injury that won't retire. Bender played 5 (very incomplete) seasons with no knees. If Roy can't play anymore, it's hard to imagine him walking from any part of that $80+ million.

Actually, I was trying to make the opposite point, but you corrected me. Thanks for the more complete information. Repped.

I was trying to say that he would medically retire. I forgot that Bender tried to come back several times.

Roy will get every penny of that contract, even if he medically retires, so that's not a concern.

As an aside, when the hell is Good Feet going to stop with these Roy commericals? Hint: Right now he may not be the best spokesperson for you.

I don't think that is accurate. Team A can waive a player, who can then sign with another team while Team B pays him a vet minimum wage, but I don't think it is possible to trade a player, and then continue paying part or all of the contract.

I may be wrong, though. I just can't think of a trade where the player's former team continued to pay for that player, plus a player received in exchange. What would be the point, especially under the current CBA?

I was listening to one yesterday and wondered the same thing.
