All I have to say is wow!

So he is blaming him being slow on Andre Miller? He is lashing out at his pathetic coach for not having a gameplan?(which is actually correct) We don't have shooters. We are making him change his game. He is blaming everyone around him for everything.

yep, this is getting "ugly" with Brandon, look in the mirror Brandon before you start pointing fingers all over

Aldridge, on the other hand, seems to have matured:

"I'm not a GM, so I can't really say that. It's not my job," Aldridge said. "When we won the last three games at home, it wasn't an issue of us fitting was it? So I can't look at it as we lose one or two, then it's 'Do we fit?' I can't think like that. I have to think, 'these are my teammates, and we have to make it work.'"

Or maybe he's just trying to make Brandon look bad.

Brandon certainly does not need help in looking bad that's for sure, both on and off the court

I think this is a natural reaction from a 26 year old who was, at one time, considered one of the best players in the league, but has since seen his game and his star begin to fall off. It sounds like he isn't ready to admit to himself that he's just not that good anymore.

last year it was andre vs nate....

this year its brandon vs andre.

how long till this leads to a nice little practice brawl?????

Probably one of the most rational post I have seen on this board. Great post, Nate, great post.

Aren't you glad we drafted high character guys?

exactly, well said

Well, sometimes we have to look at these guys as if they're real human beings (funny thought, right?) and think about their decisions and their actions as if they were our own. Anger and denial are common emotions when someone is feeling loss, and in this case Brandon is feeling the loss of his career. He has to know that his days of being a superstar are over. It's days like these that I wish I still had access to the practices because I have a feeling that Wes Matthews might be embarrassing Roy in practice on the regular.

yeah, lets hope Roy can "adjust" both on and off the court before there is too much water under the bridge

In the three games this year Roy has had 2 or more days of rest, he's averaging 27 ppg, 48%FG, 50%3.

Roy is delusional right now that playing big minutes doesn't matter and that if he just had more complementary players he'd be back to his old self. Seriously delusional.

I don't blame him. I'd be pointing fingers in every direction if I were in his shoes too.

But it's not his call on how many minutes he plays or who is teammates are. Maybe it was when he was a top 10 player in the league, but that ship has sailed. Three out of the last four games he hasn't even gotten out of single figures in points, despite taking 16 shots a night. That's never happened, no matter who his teammates were.

At this point, Roy is the third best guard on the team (after Miller and Matthews) when you factor in consistency, versatility and defense. We're not going to get rid of either of those two guys to make him happier.

Our best hope is to cut his minutes way, way down, and bring him off the bench. Start Batum to see if he can get his mojo back.

It's going to take some serious balls for McMillan to dictate this. Roy will probably explode in the media and sulk in the locker room. And it could very well blow up--Batum could suck, and Roy could be lost forever (although I personally think he'll be ok with it after a few weeks). But the move has to be made.

He seriously needs some advice from someone he respects right now. And it's gonna come from outside the team because there obviously is no leadership here.

Paging: Lorenzo Romar.

Could be that Brandon's the villain here, as most of you want to suggest. He may well be having ego issues due to being dealt a hand where he has All-Star talent but nursing home knees. He undoubtedly needs to adjust his game. On the other hand, it may also be true that what he's saying is correct. That having guys on the perimeter who can actually hit a shot and open things in the middle will allow him to still be effective at what he does. He showed in the Phoenix games -- one of those rare occasions where his teammates were actually able to hit the broad side of a barn -- that he can still beat his man in single coverage. The way things stand right now, he's never in single coverage because there's nobody to make the other team pay for doubling him.

Like it or not, we're stuck with Brandon for the foreseeable future because of his huge contract and declining health and output. He'll have to adjust in what he does, but the team also will have to be adjusted if we're to get the most out of Brandon. Vilifying him has become popular around here, which I really don't get other than he's an easy target, but let me ask you this: With all of the talk I've seen here about getting the point guard of the future, were you intent on finding another slow guy who can't shoot from the perimeter, like Miller? I don't think so. Roy's got a point. Andre is crafty and can still do some things, but he's not the guy that we need at that position.

These statements, if both accurate and in context, are disappointing.

But as Natebishop3 said above, it isn't rational to expect a 26 year old to handle all adversity with the same poise as an actual adult.

I know I did shit WAY more disappointing when I was 26.

And it is going to take someout outside the organization but close to B-Roy to get his head straight.

Part of the problem is that teams know Roy can't drive anymore like he used to, so adding shooters wouldn't help as much as he thinks it will.

Probably true, but it's also pretty clear that it wouldn't hurt if he had guys at the wings who could, you know...actually make a shot.

It's Cho's call, not Brandon's, as to what needs to be done to improve the team. I don't see any way that he'll be able to move Brandon. I suspect eventually Brandon's going to be asked to accept a 6th man role, but that still presupposes getting somebody to fire up the first unit. Getting a better PG is still in the best interests of the team.

Is it Cho's call?

Its seems more and more clear that something is going to have to be done -- and soon. If not its only going to get worse before it gets better. I honestly dont know it if that is making changes with Roy, Wes, Batum, rotation, minutes, types of players on the roster, style or getting rid of Nate. But SOMETHING needs to be done. Its not going to "right" itself on its own at this point. So the longer they let this go on the harder its going be.

I dont know if its the right answer but since Nate doesnt seem to be willing to makes changes he has control over then it may be easiest to get rid of Nate. Then you can go from there.

There's more to being able to "hit a shot" than just being an innately good shooter, you need penetration or some kind of inside presence to collapse a defense to get your shooters more room to shoot ... either that or set really good screens and move off the ball constantly. There is more going on here than a simple lack of shooters.

This is what Brandon and the team need:

We've just got to turn "crappy" into "scrappy".

Well obviously that's true. The Blazers' offense is a stagnant mess at times. I'm not saying that changes there aren't necessary, but still at some point the players on the perimeter have to be able to make an open shot. For whatever list of reasons we can throw up (and their offense does make me want to regurgitate at times), the Blazers have been firing bricks more often than not.

I don't know why some of you are so surprised by this. Roy hasn't changed. It's just adversity bringing the immaturity that's always been there to the surface. It's little different from the finger pointing at Randolph in Roy's rookie year, or Miller as a newcomer last year, both when Roy was healthy. He's always gotten a free pass as a "good character guy" and all-star talent, but he's never been the leader most people have made him out to be. Like I've said numerous times, he's just a talker. That's all he's doing here, just talking. He means well, but he has a lot of maturing to do.
