Brandon should have had surgery Monday

I'm glad he's getting it done now, but it's 4 days late in my opinion. It made no sense for him to try and play on a torn meniscus and the sooner he got it done the greater the chance he could play in the 2nd round. Now, I don't think there's any way he comes back for a 2nd round series. We can beat Phoenix without him. I'm sure of it.

I agree. However, playing devil's advocate, many players play an entire season with a torn meniscus. There's nothing unusual about that. It just depends on the pain level. He rested it to see if the pain level would go down, but it didn't.

Now here's a thought. I wonder if the fact we've been dropped in a bracket that is very favorable to us made him even have the surgery this soon? I mean, we have a 50/50 chance of making the conference finals out of this bracket and now he might be available for the conference finals, should we make them.

Neither. I've been out of town until this morning and this is the first post I could make on the subject. I thought he should have got it done Monday as I thought there is no way he would be effective with a torn meniscus. The sooner you get it fixed, the sooner you get back. I think he'll be ready in 4 weeks.

It is common to wait 4-5 days for the swelling to go down before doing surgery. Chris Paul did the same wait and there was no question whether he would have the surgery or not.

Exactly right.

Nothing against you, tlong, but this board sometimes drives me nuts. If Brandon rushes into surgery a couple days after the injury (which seldom happens with an injury like this anyway) then some message board MD would bust him for not manning up for the team and trying to play on it before giving up on the season. On the other hand, if he waits to see how it feels in a few days because he's played with a torn meniscus before, then he gets second guessed for not having it done immediately.

Couldn't we for once admit that nobody wants to play more than Brandon, nobody is more disappointed that he has to have surgery than Brandon, and that nobody on this board knows more about the situation than Brandon does? Maybe, just maybe, he's in a better position to make the call than we internet dufusses.

BTW, check out an anatomy book sometime. The meniscus is considerably different from cartilage. A torn meniscus requires trimming. Damaged cartilage sometimes requires microfracture surgery. Brandon's issue is with the meniscus.

True, but it's not the articular cartilage at the end of the femur that, when damaged, is associated with microfracture surgery. You don't need microfracture surgery to repair a torn meniscus.

Exactly right. The issue is swelling. You often times can't visualize the injury properly until the swelling subsides.
