Well, Greentree is going to be highly-scrutinized when he makes his Rangers debut. Young guy, 20 with good size. Never heard a word about him prior to today.

Kings at Rangers March 16th.
Unless I'm misunderstanding the terms of the extension the Kings gave him 2 yrs at $5.5/yr? That is a very reasonable contract.

It's 2 years $11M per cap hit, $22M total.

From what I read, Panarin only wanted to go to LA, F him BTW, and it obviously lowered the Rangers return. With that said, for the love of God please do EVERY SINGLE Rangers fan a favor and fire Drury, he is so awful there are no words I can come up with anymore. He has absolutely destroyed this organization since he took over everything.

I was so 1000000000000000% spot on with this guy. I said from the very second he was promoted he would be a disaster, and I took a lot of heat for saying it, but I've sadly been proven 1000000000% correct. He has utterly destroyed this organization (which admittedly has been a disaster for the large part of 80 + years).

When he took over, they had some future, we felt the arrow was pointing up. 4 or 5 years later the Rangers have NOTHING going on, and no future at all. I truly do not see a scenario where this team is good for the next few seasons at least (hard to predict more than 2 or 3 years out because anything can happen over that amount of time).

It is truly a very VERY sad time to be a Rangers fan, and we are looking at years of futility to come, with nothing positive we can point to. I cannot say it enough; Drury has destroyed this franchise with his inept "leadership" and decisions. Seems like a lot of players hate being Rangers these days and love to stick it to them whenever they can - I am sure Drury's "bedside manner" plays a role in that.

Pathetic!!!

I guess it's basically they got a 1st and 3rd, which isn't great but hopefully Greentree pans out. They do need C badly but maybe Trochek gets dealt and brings a young one back, and/or they use their 1sts on them. Oy

The Rangers get a 2026 third-round pick that becomes a 2026 second-round pick if LA wins a playoff series this spring (I personally highly doubt the Kings win a playoff round - if they make the playoffs), and a 2028 fourth-round pick if they win two series (no shot they get this 2028 fourth-round pick IMO).

With the necessary context — Panarin is 34 years old, and his full no-move clause basically allowed him to pick his destination — the Rangers did okay here.

Not great, but okay. It certainly pales in comparison to what the Flyers got for Claude Giroux in a similar circumstance: an established young NHLer in Owen Tippett, plus a first-round pick and a swap of lower picks.

On the other hand, last year's example concerned Brad Marchand, armed with a full NMC and pending UFA status, choosing Florida as his destination. The Bruins were only able to get a second-round pick that would convert to a late first-rounder only if Florida made the Eastern Conference Final.

The Rangers get a player they rightly deem better than even a guaranteed late first-round pick, given that Greentree is closer to the NHL than any draft pick would be.

The trade does spark a few questions. How does a terrible team that insists it's only "retooling" get better after trading far-and-away its best forward? And if Panarin was ultimately willing to settle for a short-term deal at an $11 million AAV, would such a retool not have been better served by just keeping him?
Rangers fans should not feel great about this return, but in the circumstances, they can't have expected much more.

Grade: C

No Drury didn’t get fucked you fucking moron. You’re unbelievably lazy with your research and you don’t know anything about prospects. Greentree would be rated in the top 20 prospects if his supporting offensive cast didn’t suck this year. We don’t need just number one draft picks. We need prospects that are close to the NHL ready with a high upside. The deal was sufficient for a player that wanted a big extension.

We shall see if Greentree is anything. If he's yet another bottom 6 forward at best, the Rangers got sh*t. No where near what Philly got for Giroux.

Liam Greentree is a 20-year old right winger from Oshawa, Ontario.

He was the No. 26 overall pick by the Kings in the 2024 NHL Draft.

Greentree has played in the Ontario Hockey League for the Windsor Spitfires since the 2022-23 season.

The 6-foot-3, 216-pound winger had a huge season in 2024-25: 49 goals and 70 assists (119 points) in 64 games.

He had put up 90 points the year before in 64 games.

This season, Greentree has played 34 games and has 23 goals and 22 assists for 45 points.

Greentree did suit up for Canada at the World Juniors earlier this year.

I think what you fucking morons don’t understand is the bread man could’ve said fuck you refused to trade at all and we would’ve lost him for absolutely nothing. You got a very talented prospect and draft picks that could be higher depending on if the kings do well.

He’s 20 years old playing in the OHL. That’s like being excited that a 26 year old is tearing it up in college football. And I don’t think anyone said he’s a bad player, but we have ALL said we need a center in return for Panarin and instead we got a winger who is dominating lower levels…which we’ve seen before with Laf. So I’ll hold my breath here with this kid.

The Rangers are a pit of despair, a disgrace with no future, and Drury has made it MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH worse. He's a joke and a disgrace. That's the bottom line.

As much as I hate Drury, that one doesn't bother me or matter at all really. It's only for the remainder of this season, his new 2-year $11M per deal is not part of the 50% cap hit retention for the remainder of this season.

I was 6 when they won the cup I don’t give a fuck about young players or prospects. Put a team on the ice that can win

One thing I don't think anyone discusses enough is the toxic environment Drury has created around the Rangers. It is so crystal clear the way he has handled situations, and the lack of professionalism and professional courtesy has hurt the Rangers. He has jerked around many players in a lack of communication very unprofessional way.

I'm not saying he shouldn't have traded Trouba, or Panarin, or Kreider, or got rid of Goodrow etc., but the how he did it and his utter lack of communication and collaboration is a huge negative on him, and it is hurting the Rangers now no doubt in my mind.

The organization will be toxic until Dolan wakes up and fires Drury.

“I think playing a little looser,” Trouba told the NHL on TNT studio panel postgame. “To be honest with you, I’m having a little bit more fun than I’ve had the past couple of years.”

What prospect besides the goalies have tuned out to be a game changer? None of them . They were all choke artists. Fuck Greentree he’ll be a top 9 forward like the rest of them .

Greentree, who stands 6-foot -2 and weighs 207 pounds, was a first-round pick (No. 26 overall) by the Kings in the 2024 NHL Draft. The 20-year-old forward is captain of Windsor in the Ontario Hockey League and has 23 goals and 45 points in 34 games this season.

He broke out with a huge year last season, scoring 49 goals and totaling 119 points in 64 games with Windsor.

Jess Rubenstein from Prospect Park provided the following scouting report on Greentree:

“Good size … going to remind people of Jamie Benn with his creativity. Solid playmaking ability, but skating needs improvement, and on the defensive side. Good news is he creates his own offense. Bad news is he is projected to be a middle-six forward not a first-line player.”

Plus our scouts suck. I’d rather have a top prospect that somebody else scouted. Is some of that on Drury? Yes. We should’ve started getting new scouts two or three years ago.

I also think Greentree has been in juniors too long. He’s probably fucking bored this year.

once again Dump, you are the voice of reason

The simple fact is our prospect pool sucks from first line prospects to fourth line prospects until to proven otherwise. I don’t want just first and second round draft picks from a team that doesn’t have a track record of succeeding with that. Give me some talented prospects from other organizations first. That being said, everybody knows his general manager should be fired.

That's ok if he turns out to be a solid middle six player. Seems like an Owen Tippett type. We just need these prospects to actually start panning out. Hopefully the 3rd becomes a 2nd.

lol Drury is the worst rangers gm in its entire history. He is an absolute trash piece of shit. Let’s see
He traded a fifty goal scorer in Kreider for fucking peanuts. He traded Kakko for fucking peanuts. He traded Lindgren for fucking peanuts. Got absolutely nothing for Trouba. Now trades one of the best scoring wingers in game for a decent prospect and maybe a second round pick.

Panarin only wanted the Kings. It's a miracle he got the return he did. What dumbass Drury needs to do is stop giving out fucking NMC and NTC's. I've said that going back to Gorton. Dickless Dolan needs to make that an organizational policy.

Skating needs improvement lol. Drury likes basically grinders with limited skills

Good trade considering LA was the only destination Artemi would agree to be traded getting an NHL sized player in return plus a pick.
