He's changing his number from 88 to 55 next year.

really? bummer. 88 looks better, I think. 55 looks like a C or PF #

Good shit. He wore both 55 and 5 this year with Nancy. He wears 5 on his national team, and wore 8 before he came to us.

maybe he will choose 5 once felton is off the team, but doesn't want to say it now. I would prefer that. Oh well. not a huge deal. more jerseys for people to buuy, I guess.

Cool?

On a side note, I fucking hate it when guys change their uniform number with their current team. I feel bad for the fans that supported them and bought their jersey in the first place

According to Larry Miller last night on Courtside, that answer is yes.

That's stupid of Larry boy to say. If some team lights him up for 10-12 million a year, is Larry boy going to be foolish enough to match that?

How'd you find out about this? I like him #88! Will be interesting to see what he looks like w/ diff number..hopefully same uni

What would you expect him to say?

I think Larry would rather eat his words and strokes Batum's pride than say we may not end up retaining Batum if other teams offer him too much money.

He was telling the truth about a simple number change, why is it stupid to say? Paperwork generally has to be filed with the league well in advance of a switch. Nic probably filed that, and Larry confirmed it. Oh no!!

Now they can play "I Can't Drive 55" by Sammy Hagar when he blocks or dunks?

Well I know that (your broadbrush opinion of anyone associated with management or owner). . . but I don't think his response was a stupid thing to say. It was in fact the right thing to say.

Of course it was the right thing to say. Teams are generally more reticent to offer contracts to RFA's that are most likely being matched, so stating that publicly--multiple times--likely makes things better for us.

He's also switching positions from WR to LB.

Just split the 55 in half and we'll call it even.

yeah, I don't want to buy another Batum jersey!

i thought to switch your number now you had to buy every old jersey in circulation...was that a different sport? and i think the paperwork has to be in by march or something...

That seems like you're making a complaint out of nothing worth complaining about. What else is he going to say? "nope, not wearing that # next year. I don't want to commit to it, for fear some other team will hear me say it, and try to force us to over pay for him because I guaranteed he'd be wearing 55 next year!!!!!"

I think if you want to switch immediately, like Chad Johnson initially wanted, you have to buy them all up. And yeah, there is a deadline to change, which is probably why we're hearing about it now. Probably filed paperwork to change.

I going to pull a BGD here and bump a very old thread. What happened to the switch from 88 to 55?

He probably lost 55% of his paycheck after his divorce this season

He found out that his mother was actually born August 8th.
