BREAKING: CHAUNCEY BILLUPS ARRESTED BY FBI FOR ILLEGAL GAMBLING (17 Viewers)

Serious question.

Did the Blazers have knowledge of this investigation, and combined with our last two drafts being bigs, went and got Splitter, knowing there is a chance a coaching change may be required soon?

I do not have soul of a gambler. Most I ever did was bet dinner with a friend on a game . I know gambling addiction is real. It could explain someone participating in an illegal poker game. But what is charged is way beyond that. This isn't gambling addiction..
I don't understand why. Not money, he had loads. Did someone have a hold on him?
Did he really think he would never get caught?
A lot of folks in his generation romanticized the mafia and he probably just enjoyed the thrill of being adjacent to the culture.

Not until Chauncey is seen rolling down I-5 in the backseat of a White Ford Bronco, followed by a Yellow Hummer with pot smoke wafting out the windows.
That or Scoot gets pulled over and offers the cop a signed bb card instead of license.

I wonder how our new draftee and his Chinese following feel about this. I know Japan loves to gamble. Not sure of China?

No. This is just involving Billups from before he even became head coach. The players are all quality young guys focused on playing basketball.
I know. Was just joking. But you know, coach sets the tone. He may have had them join the mob this last offseason. We will have to see if they start wearing full body jogging suits to the arena.

After taking half of the day to collect my thoughts here they are.

If the allegations are true, Chauncey is a helluva actor because I truly believed him to be a person of character. If true this again teaches all of us that we don't know the people in the public eye that we follow so closely.

The other thing I keep thinking as I read posts all over the internet is, why the fuck would this be a time to make a call back about the then foolishly labeled "Jailblazers"??? Seriously that was a team with a few guys that had some minor legal problems, Sheed got lumped in with that because of his on court intensity not his off court behavior which by all accounts was great and there wasn't much else to it.

Now we have a coach that might be a felon but by all accounts we have a lot of high character guys on the roster. So we go back to the bullshit "Jailblazers" label? That's just lazy, lame and stupid.

If like me you are annoyed of the national media not talking enough about us, this may change for a few days.

The fact that Chauncey is saying to the gambler that we are tanking could be a bit problematic if/when the NBA investigate it.

I don't think it will be probelmatic for us, I just think it might result in a lifetime ban for Chauncey.

Don’t think they can do anything to us, and we weren’t doing anything other teams don’t do.

Sure. But it’s admitted by the coach. Big difference. I tend to think like you but I wouldn’t be surprised if this gets messy

Yes, the Blazers are going to get more fucked for Billups' bullshit than the Clippers will for cheating the salary cap.

What did Ike do in Boston?
He reportedly had an affair with one of his coworkers who happened to be one of the team execs' wife. Definitely not criminal but something that made the Celtics want to move on from a head coach with that much talent and ability.

In that Chauncey is going to Jail, maybe. But then he won't be a Blazer.
I’m going to go out on a limb and say that he’s already not a Blazer. We’ve seen the last of Billups in Portland, and last nights post game presser is his last interview for the team. “Indefinitely” can mean permanently, it’s just not said that way yet.

for reference, (not sure it really applies here because it wasn't related to play-in qualification) the mavs were fined 750k for benching luka and other key players.

I grew up with Ime…… he made a mistake of having a mutual affair with a co worker, just so happened to be the bosses wife and HE got let go. I was just curious why it was brought up is all.

I pointed this out when that went down with the Mavs. The league knew all of the teams who were out of the running for the playoffs were tanking. The reason why the Mavs got penalized was because they chose to bench Luka when they were still in contention for a potential spot in the playoffs.

So I just don't think that the league will want to implicate our team in any of this. They'll want to deal with all of this as a problem with Chaucey, not some guilt by association with our team that has a sale basically in escrow.

I heard one commentator question not the charges themselves but the timing. Trump hates the NBA. The most famous player, LeBron, is an outspoken critic. Many of the game's biggest stars, including LeBron, Dame, Steph, were big donors to Harris campaign. They very likely had the evidence two weeks ago but it's a bigger splash first week of season.
