Quick just twittered the news. Barring injury in preseason.

Larry Miller: "He has been there for us and we want to know we are supporting him. Paul is on board with this and feels the same way.

Twitter is buzzing about this. Huge scoop by Quick.

He's being retweeted by guys like Beck, Stein, Cooper, Coon, etc.

Well, at least we still have the option of waiving him in the future if his knees get worse.

I thought Bill Simmons already pegged this two or three days ago?

much to do about nothing? Isn't "injured" the same as his knees acting up? though a couple of weeks probably won't be enough to tell, give it 2-3 weeks of regular season play and then lets see where it's at and amnesty won't be available then.

I'm good with giving Roy a chance, but if he doesn't hold up, he HAS to be gone before next year.

Where is Mediocre Man? I really want to hear his take on this.

What's there to say that hasn't already been said? I don't want to speak for MM, but my guess is that this could be bad for team chemistry but at least amnesty is still an option down the line if his wheels completely fall off.

if that happens then one could say we at least partially wasted this season, did not get a full MLE to build toward the future, limited ourselves in trades because we will be over the tax, and perhaps stunted/delayed the growth, chemistry and development of those players that are our future.

There may be a rather significant cost to this decision.

Yes, that could all end up being true ... the parallel universe where Roy got amnestied probably looks much different (ie. I hear we all got flying cars and the cure for cancer in that version of reality, but c'est la vie')

heh.

The Blazers should keep Brandon Roy on their payroll until he retires! (Injured or not)he is that good! #NBA

On tonight's Courtside Miller sounded like they were going to take a wait and see approach with Roy in the preseason. This tweet seem to confirm that.

The real question is what the Blazers will consider an "injury."

LOL and good night, whatever happens GO BLAZERS!

Well ... he can't tear his meniscii anymore, so I guess severe arthritis would have to be the only other alternative?

I guess he's still got the hyaline cartilage to go.

$17 million for a guy who can only play 1 out of every 3 nights....

Ridiculous....

From a PR standpoint, this is a good move.

Gives Roy once more shot to prove he can play, and it gets the fans off their back a little bit.

Once there's no doubt Roy can't handle the pounding on his knees(it'll happen), the organization can point to that and at this point the fans won't be able to blame them. Roy would know it's over too.

I guess I'm fine with one more year. Roy is one of my favorite athletes ever and I'm sure he'll provide us with some heroic moments. Enjoy them, Blazer fans.

This isn't just a PR move.

The only bball benefit from waiving him now would be the chance to sign a full MLE player (all that stuff about him hindering others' development is bullshit). Chad probably explored those full MLE options over the past few days and came out with an idea that BRoy at less than 100% is more valuable.
