BREAKING NEWS! USC hit with the hammer

Just football I'm sure. I don't think they would penalize another sport.

The school's football team is under investigation for its dealing with Heisman Trophy-winning running back Reggie Bush, who played at the school from 2003-2005. Bush also won the 2005 Heisman; if he is found retroactively ineligible, the Heisman Trust could strip him of his 2005 Heisman Trophy.

Pete Carroll taking notes from John Callipari...skipping town just ahead of his former program getting smashed by NCAA penalties.

I'm sure the 30 or so Million Paul Allen tossed his way had a bit to do with the decision, too. :)

LMAO @ Carroll jumping ship! Genius.

This isn't that bad of a sanction (for USC) if true. Carroll would have handled this just fine. No biggie. Kiffin won't lose many recruits because of this. USC will motor on, I promise. I don't believe for one minute this is why Carroll left USC.

20? That's the number? Yeah, that is significant. But high school players go to schools like USC for their ability to fast track their careers to the next level. That will fundamentally never change. USC will be fine. They might not be 100 deep at every position for the next couple of years, but they'll be fine.

This is going to hurt them big-time. Kids won't have their careers fast-tracked with a 2 year post-season ban and the elimination of 20 scholarships means USC will be thin when they get off probation. This is the Beavers best chance ever to get to the Rose Bowl.

After thinking on this a little more, I tend to see the significance. This will be a big deal for recruitment. I can't see how USC won't lose a lot of recruits to UCLA at a minimum. Oregon and definitely Washington with Sark's established reputation and connections in SoCal should benefit from this as well. This is good. :)

This is too harsh a penalty where is the precedence? 2 Years and 20 Scholarships for something that happened back in 2004 and involved a player's parents milking their son. I don't understand why they would take away 20 scholarships instead of giving the other schools in the Pac-10 (Pac-16) additional ones. Taking away 20 scholarships prevents 20 student-athletes from being able to attend college.

Reggie Bush should have his LA privileges revoked. Fucken douchebag.

Everyone i've heard is saying 30 scholarships, 3 years of 10 each. That is some SERIOUS hurt.

I agree with Shape, this is fucking harsh. And like, this happened so long ago, damn. Gotta feel for the kids missing out because of this crap

Missing out on what, a free college education?

sounds like the Juniors and Seniors can leave if they like.

My boss's brother sells something to college sports departments. He states that when he goes to out of the way places like Southern Illinois U, U of Wyoming... the players all drive beat up vehicles. At the top schools (Texas, Alabama, USC...) they pretty much all drive Lexus, BMW's... How they legally do this is agents or boosters give these cars to the player's girlfriends and they, in turn, let the players drive them.
