I think we should go after Brian Shaw. He coached under Phil in LA and now is an asst. with the Pacers, who are playing great team basketball. He's my #1 choice with Mike Malone being a close 2nd.

Thoughts?

From what I've read I would much rather offer the job to Mike Malone. He sounds a lot like Thibs when he was with Boston.

Brian Shaw seems like a guy who the players would like, but doesn't bring the toughness and X and O smarts that some of the other candidates might. Reminds me of Monty or Del Negro for some reason.

Top rated assistant around the league, so hopefully the GM candidates the Blazers are interviewing are all mentioning him as someone they might hire. that way when Larry, Bert, Paul, Chad and whoever else is involved hires him, the new GM that takes over in June 2013 will be on board with him

Keep those with the heavy Laker stench away. Can never trust those fools. Who doesn't remember when he banked in that shot?

How many fans would the Blazers lose if they hired Mitch Kupchak as GM (in 2013) and Brian Shaw as coach?

If the Blazers are unable to bring in Malone or Budenholzer we're pretty much screwed.

I wouldn't stop being a fan. I'd just be pissed as hell. Is it weird that I would feel the same way if we hire Jerry West?

Love it! ESPN posters have heard this story, but I was in Redondo Beach for work during the Syracuse-Kansas NCAA Final (Carmelo Anthony's team). I was in Sharky's with some friends, and the only table was in the raised area. Well, about 15 minutes before the game, the manager tells us that it's reserved for a Laker party. We're walking down the steps, BShaw is walking up, and I told him I loved what he did when he was a Blazer. We didn't have a place to sit in the bar, and then a few minutes later, security came up to my group and me and said "Mr. Shaw would like you to join his group". Devean George and Jannaro Pargo were also there, and by the end of the night, we were kicking back tequila shots until 1am, and I got some great stories from BShaw about 'Sheed and some others that helped changed my view of Wallace, Patterson, and a few others (I went from apologizing for them to being sick of them). Anyhow, a great night, and the funny thing was that BShaw went out the next night and put up right around 20 points, his season high, on whoever they played. My buddies and I were so hungover we could barely move, yet he goes and puts up 20 off of the bench in an NBA game.

He'd be cheap for Portland, he's a hard worker, and I obviously have a favorable bias toward him.

He gets my stamp of approval.

Outstanding story. I TOTALLY forgot Shaw had a drink of water in Portland

I'd like to think he felt sorry for our group. We were all from Portland, which he found out as we all hung out. Later in the night, we started giving him shit about that sloppy 3-pointer at the end of the 3rd, but we had to admit that the Lakers crushed our souls as fans, and basically the entire organization, with that Game 7 win.

He's the one Laker I can actually stomach, though, from that era. George and Pargo were both pretty young then, and neither really had much to drink. They were more interested in the groupies, while BShaw was having fun hanging out some white-collar white dudes from Portland.

I repeat. you are so full of shit.

He never played with patterson here AND he played in 1 fucking game as a Blazer and scored 0 points.

On top of that, the games around April 7th of 2003 (the day of the Kansas/Syracuse game) he scored a TOTAL of 0 points, including 1 game with a DNP.

I mean for fucks sake, if you're gonna bullshit a story, at least back check it first.

The story is true. Don't believe me. I have no reason to lie about it. It's not like hanging out with Shaq or something.

If you want to call me a liar, then call me a liar.

the story is true..but all the particulars of it were not.

why would you tell someone, who played 5 minutes as a Blazer that you "loved" what he did here? And further more, why would he give a shit what some drunk said to him?

So because I remember him as a Blazer, that invalidates the entire story?

I did. I mean, I'm not sure exactly what I said, but it was something to do with his time in Portland. Maybe I said hey, we're from Portland. Whatever.

Fuck it. Whatever. I was 28 years old on a business trip. It's my memory.

well, the whole thing about how you were called over to his party because you said something that just makes no sense (it's not like he was revered here, or had great memories/moments), then you go on about how he had a '20 point game, his season high!' the next night, just makes me think you're trying to make something up.

More likely, you saw some black guy and thought "hey, he looks like some baller! I should go up and get an autograph" and when you tried, he told you to get lost.

It reminds me of the time when I saw Sean Higgins back in 99, and said "dude, I loved your work as a Blazer" and he said "who the fuck is Sean Higgins? My name is Mike" and punched me.

Uh oh, 20 page argue session incoming.

ha, shows what you know. it'll be about 4 more posts before papag and I just stop caring, mick zagger will come in and start some shit, and he and nate bishop will spend the next 20 pages fighting about pointless things with papag. Meanwhile, in 5 days when the thread is still going strong I'll forget that i even commented in this thread and check in on it and re-read what I wrote and chuckle.

then I'll probably take a dump.

I honestly have thought for 9 years that Shaw had 20 points the next night. I mean, I could have easily verified that information.

I have Zags on ignore. Much more fun here for me that way. :)

This thread will die an uninteresting death, and I still won't know what the fuck you're talking about regarding Sean Higgins.

well shit, you've ruined my joke.

I don't either. Just felt like saying it.

Anyhow, may as well give Shaw a chance. It's not like this team is going to win a title anytime soon, so may as well save some money on the coach.
