What a shitty ass organization the Blazers have become.

On the other side, they have a media relations lady all the time she needed to help with arrangements for Schonely's Celebration of Life ceremony in putting it together, getting invitations out to people from way back, helping set up music, etc.

True but fixing that isn’t going to help wheels this week.
Fixing it would help a lot more, for a lot longer.

Blazers need to step up to help Wheels now. But that shouldn't be a decision they need to make.

Do you know what has happened to him medically? That verges on being a really heartless take bro.

He went thru with a lap band surgery yet still completely ate himself into oblivion.

I mean yeah it’s sad. I wish him the best. But choices are the essence of life.

Not a reason to shame an organization over.

And yes, I do agree that the medical system in this country is a sham. I feel fortunate that I’m blessed enough to never have had to pay a dime for insurance. But I’ve heard horror stories from friends and loved ones about it.

Look, Brian is morbidly obese, and has been for most of his adult life. That didn't start when the Blazers hired him nor did it start when they let him go.

Their responsibility ended when they let him go. That's not the same as saying it would be good IF they helped, but they are under no obligation to help him.

He was paid well, and had a job for 20+ years. If I lose my job tomorrow, after working at my job for 15 years, does my insurance go with me? Is it my former employers responsibility to pay for my healthcare?

Now if the medical reason why he is in the hospital was caused by his employment (like they put him in unsafe situations, he was hurt on the job doing his job), that'd be one thing.

Im sure people within the org that worked with and know Wheels, will independently contribute.

Insane that an upstanding citizen of the wealthiest country in the history of the world would be at the mercy of a corporation in order to receive such medical care.
I think from that some of the procedures Wheels has had done over the years are not covered by insurance. Not sure weight loss procedures or collateral issues, would be covered in Canada either.

His friend said Wheels is a proud man. Maybe the Blazers didn't know about his financial difficulties and the Go Fund Me campaign is her way of letting them know without calling them up and asking for money.

Sometimes maybe it’s ok to stop overthinking it and throwing blame around and justifying why it’s not one’s responsibility and just I dunno be nice. Like if you have an organization worth billions and someone who worked for you a long time needs money just help them out even if it’s not your responsibility. This is why so much sucks in the world right now.

Pointing fingers at the Blazers for doing something wrong here? Wow.

I currently am beginning to experience 4th quarter lifetime issues that most are a direct result of my choices throughout my life. Blaming anyone other than myself is ridiculous.

Bingo

For clarity, I am not implying that the Blazers are an upstanding organization. Nor am I implying that they should do nothing. I am just sick and tired of finger pointing for fairness. We have no idea what the Blazers have or haven't done.... or will do for that matter.

Who is blaming the blazers?

It would just be smart for the organization to handle this for him. They obviously have no obligation.

Government spending on keeping our population at a healthy weight (including medical procedures) would encourage policies which encourage a healthy lifestyle. It would discourage policies which contribute to unhealthy lifestyles and activities.

There is no down side that I can see.

Glad to see so many people reaching out to help. Get better Wheels!
