Seems like Andre Miller is having some run ins with the coach in Denver, I can only imagine it's about playing time. Denver is not playing him at all and Dre thinks he can still contribute, which I don't doubt he can.

To be honest, I feel like some of our latest bad defense can be related to the playing time of our starters. Expecting them to be as spectacular as they have been on the offensive end as well as playing great defense is sort of unrealistic to sustain when you play them 40 mins a a game. And Stotts has been doing that lately with all these close games that we have. If we can get a realiable vet like Dre to spare 3-4 mins each for Lillard and Mathew getting them back down to around 34 mpg, I can see how our defense can be improve just on the energy level alone.

OKC game was an example, if they put their mind into it, they can play solid defense for 6-7 mins and that probably took a lot of energy to fight through screens and chasing opposite players around. So they can do it, but they are probably usually tired when the 4th quarter comes and you can see Lillard usually don't fight through screens as hard as we know he can be.

Would love to see those lobs from Dre to LMA again, those are some very high percentage shots.

I would love to get Dre back. I wonder what it would cost...

YES PLEASE!!!! He just got suspended!! Let's snatch him up! Even in Stotts 3 point system, I think he would play well. He doesn't have to shoot 3s, at all. Here's why:

What is our 2nd unit lacking most of all (besides consistent scoring). A POST THREAT. Making a move for Dre solves this problem.

Holy smokes, it actually does, doesn't it?

Barton/ Claver + a second round pick Or Barton and Claver. that should do it for a player that Denver doesn't even want to play. I would rather seeing Dre running the back up PG and let Mo run as a backup SG and he can fire away without his dribbling/turnovers.

Those lobs to LMA were sweet. He helped LMA to get to his first All-star game

Does Dre have 2 years on his deal after this year? That would be the only concern.

That's no concern to me; let him be Obi-Wan to Lillard and CJ. There's three years' worth of lessons for him to teach easy.

I think adding Andre Miller would increase our points in the paint, both on lobs to our bigs and his own drives and post ups, but decrease our 3-point scoring. I wonder how Stotts would feel about that trade off. He's getting great results with his current system (highest offensive efficiency rating in the league), but he also seems to be a coach that tweaks his system to match the skills of his players. Would he be willing to change some sets midseason to take advantage of Miller's strengths while compensating for his lack of 3-point shooting?

I just looked and luckily his contract expires at the end of next year. Love Dre but don't think I would love 39 and a half year old Dre even if he didn't have to play.

Dre should be able to play until he's 40... it's not like he's gonna dunk on anyone. But yeah, his contract should fit in perfectly with Olshey's plan. Make it happen, Neil!

I feel that the boost in efficiency from our shooters would offset the lack of shooting from Dre. What we witnessed last year was some of Dame's best basketball when he played with a pure point guard. I think we could see that again if he was paired with Miller. I also think we might see better play from Wright, Wes, and Nic. I definitely think we'd see more lobs for Leonard or Robinson (depending on who is playing.)

His contract is high for a backup. I not saying I wouldn't take him (I would actually take him for sure over Mo) but it isn't like he is a steal. Contract is why I was hoping it wasn't 2 years after this. Olshey would pause if that was the case.

No thank you. Much rather have Mo Williams than Dre right now in their careers.

Mannn I been spreadin' that rep around and it STILL won't let me rep you. Great post.

What it seems like we're forgetting his how EXCELLENT of a passer he is out of the post. Having a consistent post threat helps 3 point shooting.
And if no one doubles, IMHO there isn't a PG in the league that can guard Dre in the post. Even at his "advanced age".

Well, if we don't send them Mo, we'd probably want to include Earl Watson. How many 6'3" and under guards do we need?

Love to have Dre passing lobs to LA again! I don't see it happening though. Lakers are going to jump on this and throw money at him, or the Knicks will. Both teams are without point guards and Dre wants to start and play big minutes which he won't get here.

You make it sound like Dre is a free agent. Doubt DEN has Dre send himself anywhere he wants to go.

The difference is Stotts likes to run four 3-point shooters with LaMarcus on the offensive end late in close games. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but some adjustments would be required if that changed to Miller, Aldridge and three 3 point shooters.

The other good thing about Andre Miller is he had great chemistry with LaMarcus Aldridge when he was here. LaMarcus loved playing with Miller. So, this is the kind of move that would have minimal chances of disrupting this team's excellent chemistry.

At first blush I liked this idea, still might, but remember we also have CJ right around the corner. Miller is a pain in the ass if he isn't playing, and between CJ, Lillard and Wes, not to mention Mo and Watson, I think this trade could spell trouble. Only way I touch it is if we are sending out Mo in the process.

How funny would it be to see Dre go to the L*kers, only to come off the bench behind Steve Blake again?

you misunderstand my intention here. it's trade scenarios for both teams. Lakers have Gasol on the block, Knicks have Shumpert on the block. My point is Dre is not a guy who wants to play Earl Watson minutes...that's why he's having problems in Denver. It's the Lakers and Knicks I see going after him more than him wanting to be either place. nobody would be happier to have Dre back than me

I can see the minutes being an issue but I can't see LA or NY trading either of those guys for Dre. Gasol makes way too much money, DEN would have to gut their team to make a deal for him. And Shumpert is thought of very highly around the league while Dre is great he is on his way out of the league.

"Veteran Andre Miller will sit two games after cursing at coach Brian Shaw during a DNP–Coach's Decision."

Team.

Player.

A Mo for Dre swap would make so much sense. LA would be so thrilled.

On a real note

Portland's offense is about the 3pt shot and spreading the floor. Terry Stotts loves him some floor spacing.

That leaves when Dre "Coach Killer" Miller enters the game. Teams would double off of him and he wouldn't be able to make them pay. That changes the offense in a way Terry Stotts would never want it to.
