Bronny had cardiac arrest

Crazy to think of how many people could have issues like this and be off hiking or some location where there is no defibulator/medical care immediately available. Exceptionally healthy teenager's could be dead in minutes. Very glad they identified and will treat this.

Makes me wonder what kind of tests we should do for ourselves and our kids though.

We need to put more emphasis on testing, IMO.

I agree with Enes here. Something is causing a massive uptick in these kinds of events. There are endless montages of actual in game footage of college/highschool and European athletes keeling over, along with news anchors and all the rest. We need to start asking why is this happening now when it never happened at anything like this rate in the past? It happened in the past for sure, but the rate of it is massive and recent. It's odd to me people who seem to not want to ask these questions. A girl right down the street from me, who was a top tier athlete and perfect health ended up with heart issues and clots in her lungs in 2022. She was a premier high school athlete. The rate at which this is happening and excess mortality among young people is very concerning and we ought to go in without any preconceived notions and see what's happening, because whatever it is, it's something very new and recent. My son is an athlete and I worry for him if its something we are missing.

Bronny's condition is congenital. That means he was born with it.

I've seen nothing to indicate there's a massive uptick. I've heard of stuff like this happening since I was a kid. The one thing that's changed is we have social media now so whenever it happens to anyone we hear about it, and we also have some groups of people that are emphasizing every time it happens for one of several reasons. Statistically, though, I haven't seen anything supporting the idea that things like this have suddenly jumped in frequency.

I remember Hank Gathers dying in a game. Hulking, healthy young man who played ball for years and was in a program where cardio training was maybe the best of any team in the country. I remember Olympic volleyball player Flo Hyman dying of an undiagnosed heart defect in the 80s or 90s. This isn't anything new.

Then you are not paying attention. I know of multiple boarded and licensed physicians who agree. It is less prevalent here it seems than say Ohio where my friends live. It is certainly vastly higher in Europe than here which again, is a head scratcher. People can come to their own conclusions on the why. What is not up for debate is it is happening at a rate never seen before, much like all-cause mortality for young people (see comment directly below this for a link).

Yep, but lots of young people are collapsing as I said including people I know and medical doctors have confirmed a massive uptick in their caseloads around cardiac conditions in all ages, in all states of relative health. You guys can say whatever you want and ignore it if you wish, but that's not going to stop it from continuing to happen and perhaps even increasing. Here's a link to all-cause mortality sky rocketing and Covid-19 is not the reason.

Again you guys believe what you want, but saying it's not happening won't make it go away. I'm also not attributing it to anything, I leave that to you to ask what has changed in the past 2 years that might account for this and would cause young healthy people to collapse, and or die, and have heart conditions. Bronny can be excluded but I was responding to what Enes Kanter said.

I have been paying attention. If you can show me some kind of actual statistics instead of exactly what I said before, it is up for debate. What you're posting is anecdotal.

Again, this stuff has been happening since sports began. Since before sports began.

Didn't you hear him? He knows doctors! But yeah, if it's not up for debate, show us hard stats, Idog.

If you want to believe that go ahead. I posted link to increased death rates by Life Insurance actuaries. You can't make people see what they don't want to see. The information is all out there, it doesn't take much to look into things, some want to and some don't want to and that is their right.

I linked to life insurance actuaries Kingspeed. Again, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. Believe what you want, this isn't going away until the root cause is discovered and being in denial doesn't change its reality.

“There is no uptick in sudden cardiac arrest or death in athletes due to COVID-19 or from COVID vaccinations. This is total misinformation,” Dr. Jonathan Drezner told us in an emailed statement. Drezner is the director of the UW Medicine Center for Sports Cardiology at the University of Washington, editor in chief of the British Journal of Sports Medicine, and a team physician for the Seattle Seahawks, the OL Reign soccer team and the University of Washington Huskies.

More than 2,000 children and adolescents in the U.S. die from sudden cardiac arrest every year, according to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and two-thirds of the deaths “occur during exercise or activity.” Among young athletes, sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death, according to CHOP.

Drezner said his center monitors “all cases and all causes” of sudden cardiac arrest or death in athletes by working with the National Center for Catastrophic Sport Injury Research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. “[T]here is no change,” he said.

The National Center for Catastrophic Sport Injury Research catalogs injuries for high school and college athletes, and its most recent report covers the 2020-21 school year. It shows that 21 athletes died while playing their sport that year.

The center’s director, Dr. Kristen Kucera, told us that so far, “the numbers are the same and it’s actually fewer than we captured in 2018-19.”

For context, the center reported 19 deaths in 2019-20, 25 deaths in 2018-19 and 21 deaths in 2017-18.

Similarly, Dr. Robert Cantu, the center’s medical director, told us in an emailed statement that he’s seen no increase in athlete deaths and called the claims “misinformation.”

“The statistics don’t bear out that there’s been an increase in events among athletes,” Dr. Curt Daniels, professor of cardiovascular medicine and director of the sports cardiology program at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, told us in a phone interview.

The field of sports cardiologists who oversee the health of athletes is relatively small, Daniels said. “We talk and communicate all the time,” he said, and none of his colleagues has flagged a rise in sudden cardiac arrest.

“There’s been no increase,” he said.

Here is a German newspaper reporting on it. This is my last post as I'm sure some will rush to debunk it. Again, you can only point to the truth, you can't make people believe it.

As I said, this has been happening forever. I can't vouch for the credibility of Berliner Zeitung other than to point out a lot of outlets that are trying to push this narrative have political motives and do it through anecdotal evidence. I'd rather have actual numbers, and that's what I've provided above.
