I played some more this morning and topped out at 1477, gotta use the bank shots well, and a trick I noticed is if you completely eliminate one color of bubbles they stop coming up on the shooter and replenishing cycles. If you clear the whole thing it respawns a new set just like at the beginning except then you get 2pts per bubble popped, but it seems like more bubbles come with each replenishing cycle so it's risky.

I've yet to clear a stage, but I've been close. Yeah I use the bank shot plenty. I think going slower is the key.
